If the theory pans out (still not convinced), then I hope that straight gals also get IB because otherwise they are getting an NPC and a guy who is approaching his Calling. After the ME 3 debacle, that might not be the best received. This way, they would get a third romance, who is also a companion and (as far as we know) doesn't have any terminal illnesses.

Also I don't see Viv and Solas, so there's a possibility things have changed.... unless both aren't LI's.
Changed? Nothing has ever been said about Vivienne or Solas being LI and not all the companions are going to be LI.

I think that the only thing throwing a wrench into this plan is the fact that the World of Thedas has a missive in it written by Blackwall from back during the Blight and he was the second in command of the Orlesian Wardens at that point. So if that was about 10 years ago and he had already risen to the rank of second in command, I'd say that he had to have done his Calling at least twelve years ago.
Still, that being said, it doesn't mean that the game itself will have a tragic ending. But the hopes of head canoning a "happy ever after" might be bleak.

Just give me a love interest with no children, dead lovers, or a terminal illness. Just give me DA-Garrus, basically.

I'll be a bit disappointed if it's only Blackwall and Cullen for a female straight Inquisitor.
Blackwall seems way funnier than Cullen , but the whole dying of the taint isn't really thrilling.
I have my finger crossed for an awkward and light hearted Solas thing.
Or maybe the Iron Bull if it doesn't get all melodramatic with "I have to choose between the Qun and you".
There's also Varric , I like him a lot.
For now I'm still thinking my mage is going to be single , it's not the end of the world. But I hope there's some really good friendship in Inquisition .

Just one, though. If they were all so supportive and nice, they'd be boring and kind of homogenous, but DA2 had too much, "Woe, no one could/should ever love me!"

I love how optimism people are thinking that they would make both straight options to be NPC. The straight girls may be okay with it but based on how rile up the straight guys are thinking Bioware has abandoned them, it would not end well if that's the case. Bioware is not that stupid.

As a straight male, I'll be perfectly fine with it.

I don't understand why people think romances have a race quota. There was only one elf romance in DA:O.

I also don't understand why being older and maybe dying would preclude a romance. See: Thane.

I'm gonna stick with my belief that Blackwell won't be a love interest. It just doesn't make sense for someone who believes in the Grey Warden's duty so much.
But also I really don't want my options for my straight female inquisitor to be Blackwell or Cullen. As much as I love Cullen, and hope that his role in the story will be pretty big, I really like being able to bring me LI everywhere with me.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a bi Solas LI.

Still not thrilled about Cullen though now that I've thought about I now get why I'm not thrilled its not because I'm ehh about his character its the fact the guy is a templar and is addicted to lyruim. The addiction is what bugs me about him though that's mainly due to my own experiences with addiction involving loved ones but yeah not to thrilled with him because of it not like he can stop anyway without loosing his mind even quicker than if he were to stay on it. So as much as I would like Blackwall as an LI having two LIs for women doomed to either loose their minds or die horribly not a very good combination for people who can't see past those things. Blackwall I adore your design and you sound awesome but if straight ladies only get two choices I don't think you should be one dear since Cullen has already been confirmed. Won't stop me from wishing he was one though but if straight women only get two options then there should be at least one that doesn't have some addiction or is guaranteed a horrible slow death.

It's a pattern since there's been a male elf available in both DA games. Thane was also created by a different writing team.

Correction, 1.5. Alistair is half-elf.
