I don't fault them for giving up either.  I think I'm just a glutton for punishment.  I will say that if Varric isn't available, at least I have my best (DA) bud back.   :)

Could be worse. You could be a guy hoping for a dwarf romance, only to be told that you clearly have a fetish that Bioware will do all it can to make sure isn't going to be catered to.

I take you're referring to DG's comment about a qunari romance?

If there was a female dwarf romance, I'd be happy too. Someone like Dagna.

It's not a fetish...I just love them D; haha

Yep, but he also mentioned a similar feeling regarding dwarves if i'm not mistaken.

BioWare is known for listening to their fans. Youknow... Cullen is an LI after two games because his fans were so loyal, Garrus, Tali and then Vega and so on.

But apparently you're saying the writers did mention a few times that Bianca is his only love? As in, don't hope for anything?

I just mean I don't see as much of a bandwagon for a Varric LI in this forum. That's all.

You obviously haven't seen the Tumblr(s)..?

http://fuckyeahvarric.tumblr.com/

http://officialvarri...ras.tumblr.com/

Not all Varric fans frequent these particular forum spaces.

I also like to think that most of the "crazy fangirl" bunch kinda "cooled down" after the DA2 disappointment.

Just liking an accurate observation.

The momentum is still there, but I don't fault those who give up because when it comes down to it, it is a long shot. It's part & parcel of wanting (and/or playing) the least-popular high fantasy racial option after all.

Yeah, unfortunately elves and humans are still a cliche favourite among most.

Dwarves have always been seen and portrayed as loud drunks (*cough*Oghren*cough*) which are qualities that aren't generally romantic or attractive.

On the other hand, I am guessing that Qunaris are well-accepted because they're new and exotic.

While me and the other fangirls who aren't BSN peeps are trying our best to stay optimistic, quite a number of us are prepared to have our hearts broken...

...for the second time.

I had the same mix up, but here's what a post he made said about dwarves and qunari:

http://forum.bioware...ith/?p=12071293

People make a lot of requests, particularly when it comes to romance. Heck, if we mentioned that we'd added a mailbox into the game someone would request a romance with it. So the fact that dwarven romances or female kossith (and/or romances with female kossith) have been requested by some is hardly remarkable.

Insofar as romances with dwarves go, we might add one at some point-- for the right character. I've joked about finding dwarf romance icky in the past, but I have no particular objection so long as the dwarf in question doesn't look child-like.

Insofar as female kossith go, we might also add one at some point. That would be awesome. I think their concept looks hawt.

Why haven't we done either of these things yet? Because we're doing other things, and we don't create whole plots or characters on demand nor do we do something solely because it hasn't been done. Eventually we're likely to do both.

In a tweet from last year, DG mentioned that.  However, that might have changed.  The one thing I have seen is Cameron Lee in interviews stressing how much Varric loves Bianca, and a quote about how "Varric really loves Bianca and that he might not be able to let that go."  I really doubt he was talking about weapons, since it's been confirmed that we can even swap out Varric's crossbow.

I hold a candle, but that's about it.  I'm not going to be crushed if Varric is "Bianca-sexual" again, since my expectations aren't that high.  If he is a romance, then I'll take it as as welcome surprise.  If not, well, I've got my buddy back and he'll still end up with a permanent spot in my party.

Aaahhh! That's what happened. I was wondering why it all dissipated after a while. Must have been the comic, too.

I was at the romance in video games panel at PAX East. One of the panelists sitting next to Laidlaw was a huge Varric fan. At the start of the panel she ripped off her jacket to reveal a Varric tee-shirt underneath and cried "VARRIC FOR LI" the room went wild. Laidlaw, looking very sheepish, said "you can romance Cullen"... almost dead silence in response.

So what you see in this forum isn't necessarily reflective of all Dragon Age fans.

It kinda bugs me that there are so many Bioware romances with exes, dead or alive, YET, when everyone starts talking about Bianca aka the "implied dead" ex,

"OH VARRIC PROBABLY STILL LOVES HER KTHXBAI".

I see no reason for them to bring back Varric and NOT make him a romance.

Everyone else who were brought back in the sequels (Garrus, Tali, Anders and Cullen) came back as romances.

Sure, the Varric fandom may be weird but just because we're not dedicating our entire life (as in the 24/7 posting updates kind) to our favourite dwarf doesn't make anyone of us any less of a fan.

I wish there was a video of this! LOL

In all seriousness though, if you read Youtube comments about DA2, half of the time, people say that Varric should be an LI. The other half says DA2 sucks. :P

(not reflective of my opinion, I actually enjoyed DA2)

All I am saying is there is MORE to the fandom of Varric than JUST BSN.

There's Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, DeviantART, Youtube....

The BSN represents the most hardcore of Dragon Age fans, we know every last bit of available information about the upcoming game. To us Varric's just 1/12th of an ensemble cast and one that's already been discussed quite a bit.

To less hardcore fans? Varric's that pretty awesome character from DA:II, and who knows who the other guys are. To them Varric sounds like an awesome guy to be a romance.

Aw, not Sera?

Sera sounds awesome, but there are two reasons I don't want to put her with my first Inquisitor. Firstly, she's a rogue. Not only am I planning to play one myself, I'll probably have Varric in my party most of the time even if he's not available for love. Rogues are great, but three is probably too many. Secondly, I already like the idea of romancing Sera with a Dalish elf later on. (I'm thinking she'll be yet another rogue. I like the idea of them having a lot in common - both lesbian elves who are handy with a longbow - and yet coming from very different backgrounds.)

Of course, there's always the yet-to-be-revealed bisexual female romance ...

This might sound odd, but I actually really like the idea cross class romances. I have no explanation whatsoever, but I like romancing an character that belongs to an completely different class from mine. I mean, I romanced Liara with my soldier Shepard, then Miranda who was an Sentinel. And in Dragon age I romanced Morrigan with my human warrior and Merrill with my rogue Hawke. There is something charming about characters that follow an different combat style getting together. Like I said it's weird.

What if they chose to bring him back because they aren't done with his character arc? That's what they chose to do with Cullen

Considering Sera and Dorian's reveals as Female only and Male only romances respectively I really do not understand why the orientation of Cassandra and Cullen have not yet been confirmed by the writers? For people looking for equality such as myself I see no reason for this information not to be given out.

Because they love to tease the fans. Cassandra and Cullen's sexuality has been a heavily discussed topic. Maybe they think its far too entertaining to see the fans speculate - which would end when they reveal it.

I've always assumed the reason they've brought back Varric was so he could act as a fountain of exposition for the events of the last game, and, related to that, be there to react to any connections to DA2's plot that we, the player, will get, but our Inquisitor wouldn't(or to remind us, the player, of if we've forgotten).

Whether or not they make him an LI, who knows. I've often posited it as the question of whether he'll be DA's Garrus(character who becomes an LI due to popular demand) or DA's Joker(character who keeps the PC in the friendzone despite popular demand). In any event, I hope the character arc they want to wrap up with him involves him either reconnecting with or getting over Bianca. That obsession thing hes got going on isn't healthy.

Trust me, I know.

[PATHETIC WHIMPERING NOISES] At least he let us down easy... and then immediately asked us for dating advice...

Oh man. If they play out Varric the exact same way...

VARRIC: Sorry, Inquisitor, but I've just never thought about you that way.

INQUISITOR: [SADFACE] I understand.

VARRIC: Soooo... do you think I should just go up and ask Bianca to dance?

INQUISITOR: [ANGST]

Sure it would end the speculation of their orientation but people would still talk to about them just as they do any character so that point is a bit irrelevant isn't it?

Gotta say while I've been kind of over Varric for a while (in hopes to have him as an LI at least) I agree with Former_Fiend Varric being obsessed with Bianca for at least ten years now isn't healthy and I'm a little worried for the guy. Course I never thought the whole 'holding a torch for years' thing was ever vary romantic just kind of unhealthy. Course I know absolutely nothing about Bianca the person just the crossbow so maybe it makes sense for him to be still holding a torch for her I"m not sure, just from where I'm standing it's coming off as kind of unhealthy. (And no I don't mean that he should be an LI and be over Bianca, just that he should move on even if he isn't an LI.) See this is what Bioware does to me, makes me worry about the mental health of a fictional character like they're a friend I've known for years^^;
