Depends on the character.

The LI or the PC?

I usually prefer playing non-human, so I guess I kinda have to prefer interracial romances, eh?

Hopefully the romance scenes for dwarves are better than they were in Origins. And we don't have anything like Alistair saying he loves you because you aren't human. Ech.

I feel ya. I did grow to loooove all the romancing as a dwarf and finding the height difference cute in the end. XD I plan to always romance elves as dwarves and (if I get the chance, which would be lovely) all the dwarves as well to reflect my BroscaxZev pairing.

I'll make my guess again, since we're doing that now. They haven't changed in a while. lol

Cassandra - Heterosexual

Solas - Heterosexual

Dorian - Homosexual

Sera - Homosexual

Iron Bull - Bisexual

Vivienne - Bisexual

Scribbles - Bisexual

Cullen - Bisexual

But, if it were my choice I'd trade Blackwall (or Varric is fine) for Solas as hetero, bump Solas to bi, and knock Iron Bull out of the LIs.

I'd be totally happy with this. Only way it could be even better (for what I'd personally want) is switching Vivienne to straight and Cassandra to bi.

But honestly as long as I get my Solas romance I'm happy with anything :D I'll make a dude eventually for Cass if I have to.

PC. Though with race-gating now in place, both I guess.

Why do you hate me so much?  Whhhhy.

Sorry, I just want two companion LIs I want to romance.  :(

But I don't think the fates will favor me. I imagine he's going to be in regardless how much I kick and scream. lol

I'm a huge fan of interspecies myself. ^^ Thinking of romancing Dorian as an elf.

Qunari, dwarves, and elves don't strike me as meaningfully non-human enough for me to see it as a real interspecies romance.

Oh I forgot about that! I certainly agree. I think she's the lady I want the most... It won't be too bad having to make a male for the heart loving badass Cassandra though. Kinda like Morrigan again. And she was my favorite.

Interesting. I think Iron Bull looks very very non human. More so than any other qunari. Maybe it's the lack of hair and the ginormous horns...

Cassandra - Heterosexual

Cullen - Heterosexual

Sera - Homosexual

Dorian - Homosexual

Solas - Bisexual

Vivienne/Scribbles - Bisexual

IB - Bisexual for Qunari (maybe humans)

That'll be 4 humans available to all races, 2 elves available but one only available for females and one Qunari available for both male and females. Dwarfs miss out as per usual, unless... .

Have we considered how Iron Bull's possible racegating would affect the other love interests in terms of balance? That is to say, a bisexual love interest who is female and racegated as a counterpart?

IB is basically just the actor who plays Gregor Clenage on Game of Thrones with really big horns.

But I think Maria meant that culturally, socially, cognitively, sexuality-wise, etc. all of the characters are just plain human, with minor appearance flourishes.

Something I'm reeeeeally hoping for is that, like in Origins, almost all of the romance content for multiple characters can be seen in a single playthrough. In DA2 that wasn't possible with the somewhat early locking and all...

One can only do so much playthroughs in a certain amount of time. XD At least I don't fear I'll be able to sleep with multiple characters, but there's always more to the romance than that.

Straight: Cullen and (Vivienne or Cassandra)

Bisexual: Iron Bull, Solas, (Cassandra or Vivienne) and Scribbles

Gay: Dorian and Sera

or

Straight: Blackwall and (Vivienne or Cassandra)

Bisexual: Iron Bull, Cullen, (Cassandra or Vivienne) and Scribbles

Gay Dorian and Sera

I go back and forth on whose bi and whose straight with Vivienne and Cassandra

I'm just teasing.  Lowballing my expectations is the best way to go about it.  Even I am not allowing myself to believe IB is really an LI.  I'll only believe it once I see it from a dev.

He looks somewhat non-human and acts like frat boy. Not what I would call alien.

Correct. Most fantasy races are humans with a different culture. They have some visual differences but don't feel like a non-human species that has achieved intelligence.

Which species from ME did you find "alien enough"? At least for the ones you could romance.

Could be Vivienne due to her standing in the Orlesian court. Like Iron Bull could be available for Qunari and Elves while Vivienne is available for Humans and Dwarves for example.

I suppose once you've romanced (or even just experienced) Thane and/or Garrus, it's hard to see any DA:I companions as very alien :P (in terms of looks, at least). Personality wise, Garrus still acted very non-alien, imo.

My theory is that nearly everyone is romancable, but only under certain circumstances (racegating, ect.)

My current guesses:

Heterosexual: Cullen and Cassandra

Gay: Dorian and Sera

Bisexual: Iron Bull and Scribbles (Iron Bull might be qunari only, or no dwarves?)

Racegate: Varric and Dagna (dwarf-only)

Crossing my fingers to romance Blackwall, Solas, and Vivienne as well, because gosh I really want to. ^___^

I'll be honest, Iron Bull doesn't look human to me. Like, he's definitely humanoid, but definitely not human.

I liked Garrus, he was a pretty cool guy. Still, he's the only one of the seven (yeah, I count Kelly) ME2 LIs I never romanced. I guess as much as I like my interspecies loving, Maria Caliban level interspecies feels a little squicky and it's def not my own cup of tea. XD And that's probably why I'm not feeling compelled to romance Iron Bull at all...

I guess it's unfair to compare the two series though. They're quite different scenarios considering the races in ME come from different planets while those in DA have lived in the same world forever.

I'm a huge fan of interspecies myself. ^^ Thinking of romancing Dorian as an elf.

Considering I only play non-humans, and so far only humans and the occasional elf has been available to romance... No.

Since I love playing elves and there are more human LI's than elven, that kind of pigeon-holes me into the "elf/human" so-called "interspecies" romance. (Though my Elven Warden would like a word with you. "I may be elven, but more than that--I'm a person"). However, there's too much baggage between humans and elves to make the whole "interspecies romance" exotic spice seem appealing to me. Millennia of slavery and subjugation, continued systematic oppression, the very real fear of cultural decay and extinction for elves, the underlying problem that all children born of elves and non-elves are always non-elves, so if you care about your people's future then there's that guilt of possibly contributing to future lack of genetic diversity and possible extinction from too much mixing (which always stresses out my DA elves, no matter how much they love their human partner), and a number of other cultural and socio/economic differences.

On the very shallow surface, "interspecies romance" can seem very cute. Look more closely at the deeper historical, cultural, and socio/economic differences between races, and there's more to it than just, "Oooh, we're crossing boundaries and/or going against society by being together! We're such star-crossed rebels!"

Also: human Tevinter magisters enslaved elves for millennia and continue to this day, and you want to romance one with an elf? Okay...

EDIT: That's not to say I don't like romancing human characters, but I don't like it for the whole "interracial romance for it's own sake."

Yes? Like how Shaq is human.

I don't think any of them were "alien", though in terms of appearance I thought Thane and Garrus looked like humans from a futuristic society where genetic experimentation with phenotype became a commonplace way of altering apperance, and some subgroups used it to look non-human.

None of them. Thane probably came the closest in that he showed some interesting cognitive differences in the way he experienced memories, but all that amounted to was another version of a BioWare LI telling you about their ex.

If you asked me about any BioWare game, I'd probably go with Victor from TOR... who technically was human.

While I've done it twice on my canon runs - my Surana Warden romanced Morrigan, and my apostate Champion romanced Merrill - I would've preferred a change of variety in having my elven Inquisitor romance someone who was also one of the Elvhen, who might understand where he's coming from, and what it's like to live as an elf in a society where your views are marginalized.
