But, if it were my choice I'd trade Blackwall (or Varric is fine) for Solas as hetero, bump Solas to bi, and knock Iron Bull out of the LIs:whistle:

Glad it's not up to you then.

I think what's most important is that they provide equal romances for real life genders/sexualities first. As far as we know, people that pick dwarves and Qunari will have romances in this game, so I wouldn't go into panic mode too much.

I guess lets just wait for the chart to see how it goes. It might not be as bad as we're making it seem. It's possible that we'll eventually find out there's only like one extra LI with race gating at all. Who knows right now, you know?

Guys hear me out here,

Would it be as bad if theoretically any race could romance the LIs available, but the dwarves and kossith didn't have the cutscenes, just a fade to black?

Not saying I think this is a good idea, just curious.

I'd be absolutely fine with that.

The only romance cut scene I've actively liked in the Dragon Age series so far was the one with Fenris. (The one with Isabela was cute, too, I guess.) Statistically, I'd be better off with a fade to black and more options for my dwarves.

This would be the worst thing ever.  I DEMAND extremely awkward cutscenes, that are at least on par with those in DA:O.

I wouldn't mind going back to having 1/2 LIs each. Ahh, remember the days when you had one straight male LI and two straight female LIs, one who might be bisexual? Loved and hated that. Mainly hated due to the lack of gay options and only one male option.

I just hated that. No love at all.

Eh, no.

The main problem I have with this is that's just one scene. All the others have to be animated as well, which I think is what you're getting at here. The kissing scenes have to be different, unless you get rid of kissing, too. Conversations have to be structured differently because dwarves are shorter and qunari are taller and people have to move their heads to look at them, unless you get rid of them. Touching a shoulder has to be animated differently, because a dwarf couldn't reach Dorian's shoulder, unless you get rid of all touching too.

The cinematic nature of DAI makes simply cutting out the scenes impossible. They'd have to go back to DAO, where it was just people talking to each other. No further interaction with the character models. And I'm not okay with that.

I think something to consider, though, are we sure "the sex scene" is the only romance cut scene? In DA2 there was a scene where Hawke's LI would come and talk to him/her after his mother died, for example. DA:I may have one or more additional cutscenes besides the sex scene that people expect. We don't really know how many scenes were looking at maybe cutting out here to get basically the same results as race gating. But I guess, for some people, it would still be better than being totally gated out?

I'd actually love to go back to only two LIs--make them bisexual so no one's excluded. My introduction to BW was KOTOR and I loved how integrated the romance arcs were to the main plot. Having lots of options is good in one way but sometimes romance feels like its own freestanding thing that has little relationship to the plot.

The lowest I'm really comfortable with them cutting back to is 4 bisexual LIs. I would still buy it if it was 2 bisexual LIs (one of each gender) but I wouldn't be happy about it. lol

So, Liara and bisexual Garrus, probably, in ME.

It would probably be Liara and Kaidan, I think. I mean, they didn't have Garrus in the first one, so they'd probably have just carried Kaidan through.

Or lets go Jade Empire! One straight, two bisexuals.

I'm kidding, but honestly I love me some SilkFox so I didn't care about anyone else then ;P haha

I'd hate it if they went direction, removing the vital element of choice from the romance department.

No we don't, but from what I understand they integrated most of the romance content into the normal questing content. So it will probably be more "if romanced X get banter Y in quest Z" than "get a romance scene with X after quest Z".

I think that MotA was a test run of that with the Hawke-LI specific banter. I also remember Lair of the ShadowBroker being mentioned has an example, but I don't remember if it was a dev or not and it might not be exactly representative because it focus on Liara only.

The glorious days where the M/M option was ridicoulously hard to get but allowed for a straight guy to have both the girls at the same time...what a long way we have come.

Yeah briliant ! and make the M/M ridicoulously hard to get but allow for a straight guy to have both the girls at the same time !

What a long way we have come...

Totally! Because we won't even begin to mention how much I had to restart from an area to properly get SilkFox to love me as a woman -sobs-

That bodes poorly for NPC romances.

No it doesn't. Just because NPC romances will be inherently different: it doesn't mean they'll be inherently worse. Remember that tweet about a dev who had just finished playing a very long Cullen arc?

On top of this: we've done a lot of worrying at points in this thread about the relative importance of various romances to the plot. We've often insinuated that the more plot important characters would be better romances; if I had to guess, I would guess that Cullen and Scribbles (due to the nature of their importance to the Inquisition itself) will be much more "plot-important" than most of our companions too.

I definitely don't care enough about plot involvement to sacrifice choice... 2 of each, at least, I'm not even asking anymore for all-bi :P , but I surely hope we keep getting some room for choice

If they are "different" and not just "less", then sure. If Cullen has one quest line that he goes on and every companion LI can make commentary through all quest lines, then his one "long" questline is still not much in comparison. If the system is as the post I quoted stated and NPCs don't have an alternate method that we don't know about, then it bodes poorly for them. Maybe that exists, but I haven't seen any clue yet of what it is.

I don't think being a quest giver inherently makes you "plot important". You had advisors in Awakening that gave you quests and information, but they weren't more important than your companions by a long shot. I can't even remember any of their names or a vague concept of what they look like. I want to say there were three? I can remember all the companions.

I'm not saying it's a nail in the coffin for NPCs, maybe they will turn out well. I can just see where they could easily not turn out so well, also.

I actually thought that most of the love scenes in DA2 were cute, I even managed to make some modded scenes for laughs.

Zevran banging everyone

"Destiny Averted" (fanfic) GIF in which playerHawke dies instead of Carver or Bethany.

da2___champions_of_kirkwall_by_catmonroe

I mean, if the DAI animation team just wants to skip the "difficulty" of crafting a dwarven love scene, they could always do a motorboating sequence.

da2___varric_noms_bewbz_by_catmonroe88-d

Anyway, I think if height differences are an issue, you can get characters lying down the morning after anyway, like in the Merrill love scene.

Just... NO UNDERWEAR DRY HUMPING SEQUENCE AGAIN, PLEASE.

But I agree with most of you, even a Garrus, head touch and fade-to-black is better than no dwarf romance. Though I am pretty sure dwarves at least have lips.

The speculation is based off of one sentence in a preview. I really would avoid getting my hopes up.

I don't think anyone assumes Dagna returning is a certainty; it's simply fun speculation right now, as is the idea that she may be a love interest for players who might be interested in a dwarven romance with the opposite sex (assuming Varric is available). Regardless of that, she was a fun, intelligent character, and I think it would be cool to see her again.
