People secretly just want things for themselves

Which is why I think the gender gating is stupid.

You can't make everyone happy but you might as well shoot for making as many people happy as possible.

People tend to forget that Bioware make video games. It's apparently realistic to fight dragons in a fictional world, hurling lightning bolts and fireballs with your hands, but as soon as you realize the NPC's are player sexual it suddenly shifts to unrealistic... ridiculous.

It's easy to complain about a system until the changes to it effect you personally.

Really? The same people who complained about DA2s approach are complaining about DAI's approach?

Not all the same people. I complained about DA2 approach and I have not issue with how DAI is doing thing.

But then, I choose what I play once the character creation pop-up and I rarely romance anyone in the first playthrough anyway. So I don't really care who is what, it will all flow naturally once I stumble into the game. My first DAO and DA2 playthrough are still my favorite because of that too.

I didn't mean that all the people who complained are complaining now.

Bioware isn't doing it to make people happy, Bioware making it they way they want to make it

I don't think BioWare's goal with the romances is to make lots of people happy. I mean, it's something they like, but it's more a nice bonus.

After all, David is writing Dorian as a gay man because David is gay and he has a story he wants to write. I am sure that he also wants to have straight women enjoy a romance, but he's probably fine with them not getting what they want 100% of the time.

When Sheryl has talked about Leliana*, she's said that she made her bisexual because it felt right for the character. That Leliana was someone who loved the person, not the gender. That queer women got access to an LI was something she also thought was good, but I don't think it was the primary reason for her being written that way.

DA 2 was the only time they based character sexualities solely on making people happy, but that was because they didn't have a lot of time and resources.

*Going from memory for a game that's several years old.

About Dagna, I get the feeling that DA:I is going to be sort of like a blown up version of Awakening, where there were the main NPCs in your base that gave you information and quests and then vendors and such that you could buy from and that would less often give you quests or craft things you found. I think Dagna and some others will be like the latter, maybe they'll bring back others we know, like Wade and Herren or Bodahn and Sandal, or maybe it'll just be new ones.

As for complaining about the gating systems, I saw at least one guy come out and say he was against the "all bi" system until they made Sera a lesbian and now he wanted to go back to bi LIs. A lot of people complaining meant they wanted the Origins system, where there were straight LIs and bi LIs, but none gated off from them. Personally, my opinion is that the main goal should just be offering the same amount of choices with the same amount of content for real life genders and sexualities. Whether they do that with the all bi system, or something like 2/2/2 or 2/4/2, I think it's equally fair either way. I really like the all bi system and I'd be happy to have it back, honestly, but this system isn't unfair if everyone still gets equal choices.

I'm definitely becoming more and more convinced that people are just never going to stop complaining about romances.

People (me included) complained about the "variety of sexualities" approach in the BG2-ME2 years because, inevitably, gay and lesbian players got either zero or only one option when straight players often got multiple options.

People complained when they went to a mostly bisexual approach in DA 2 because it wasn't "realistic".  Some straight guys complained that straight women got more options.

People complained with ME 3 because straight women got less options, the gay and lesbian LI's were NPCs and not squadmates, and people complained about not being able to romance Samantha because she was gender gated (never really saw many complaints about Steve.....).

Now with DA: I, people are complaining because straight players might get less companion LI's than gay players (not confirmed), that the male LI's are ugly, that the female LI's are ugly, that Sera is gender-gated, etc.

It's tiring.  I actually see people who argued against the DA 2 approach now complaining about this game because they can't romance Sera.  I just.....can't.  I think I need a break.

It is very tiresome, I tend to walk away from conversations like that now, it just drains me, I'm here to have fun and be excited about a game series that I adore, but there is so much whine sometimes it just makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry...

I'd like to think that I've been fairly consistent in my support for the all-bi system as it offers not only equal choice, but maximum choice.

I have a question, and i am sory if this has been asked before, but honestly I was too lazy to read through 300 pages.

What romance options are there for straight women?

I was excited about Dorian - but he is gay. Then I thought "Well Cole sounds like a tormented sad person. My little elf could love him", but he can't be romanced at all. So far i only know of one option and that is Cullen. And I don't mind Cullen, but i am not interrested in him romanticly. He is a little rigid and has no humour what so ever....

I knw Bioware said that some combinations will have very limited romance options.... Is it really true that straight women only have one option?

I don't really get why you are opposing the all bi system and fairness, and the set sexualities who apparently isn't.

If you get 2/2/2 with one companion for each orientation, it's totally fair. The only thing that could bother you is just that you didn't have the LI you wanted. But the system is totally fair.

I'd say Iron Bull is very likely. Beyond that, we just don't know.

If I was in their place I'd certainly like to have the freedom to make just the game I want to make, obviously, so I'm happy for them if they enjoy that kind of autonomy. That said, I see nothing wrong in trying to make fans happy, and taking some of our demands in consideration. It's true, however, that fans want very different things, but I'd not go simply with making happy the majority of them, because I think there are other factor that need to be considered.

Anyway, I'd still go with the all-bi system. I miss it already

For me it's not only about fairness (which, yes, can be achieved with other systems), it's about having every LI available, I admit it

We don't know. Only same-sex romance options have been confirmed.

Is it really true that straight women only have one option?

It is not. You will have at least two options. There might be race-gating, however.

Cullen is the only romance confirmed for straight women. My guess would be Blackwall will be another option, and potentially Iron Bull, but honestly I think people are putting too much stock into him being a real romance. At most I feel he could be a hook up.

Is this actually the same people, or merely (different) people posting on the same forums?

I'd argue its largely not the same people, there were many people who advocated the abandoned DA2 approach.

There maybe the odd person changing tune when they found a character they wanted wasn't available though.

Cullen has not been confirmed for straight women. People assume he'll be available for female PCs and that Cassandra will be available for male PCs.

I believe it myself, but that's not the same as being confirmed.

Yes he has.

Give me a moment and I'll go find the interview...

Edit: Actually watching the video again they don't specify gender, so my bad. Just seems extremely likely he's available to women based on this.

My understanding of CONFIRMED LI's:

Cassandra - sexuality unconfirmed

Cullen - sexuality unconfirmed

Sera - f/f only confirmed

Dorian - m/m only confirmed

SPECULATED:

Iron Bull - possibly a race-gated bisexual LI

Scribe Girl - possibly a female NPC LI counterpart to Cullen

Outside of these, it's still pretty open.  Of course, people have speculated Blackwall, Solas, Vivienne, and Varric as well, but there's much less evidence supporting those at this point.

Just to be clear, I recall a tweet when it was stated female characters would be able to romance Cullen, though they didn't say he was necessarily straight.

I wish they would just confirm the straight LIs, because only having the gay LIs confirmed is just making everyone tense and competitive towards the other potential LIs. They should have just announced the bi ones first and gone from there, I think.
