To be fair, most women in media are white, thin and conventionally pretty. It's an issue with sexualizing women, generally. Media beauty standards allow more flexibility for men, but most of them are even more attractive than the "average" male. People like seeing beautiful people in media, which causes problems in a lot of ways, considering how narrowly we start to define beauty.

Keep in mind I'm not totally straight, so I'm probably not the best source of insight into the dudebro psyche. In fact, I'm probably a terrible source of insight into the dudebro psyche.

I don't actually disagree with what you're saying, but what I'm saying is that I think the level of unconventional we'll see for LIs (let's be honest, especially female LIs) is probably not going to stray far from conventional standard. My point isn't that Cassandra is ugly, or overly unconventional. On the contrary, I think every female companion and advisor is quite conventionally attractive, in large part. Definitely more so than a lot of the males. I'm more saying that this trend is likely to continue and that people would probably pitch a fit if it didn't, especially with the LI choices.

Right, I follow where you're coming from. I think the best way to re-phrase my post is like this: I think Cassandra is unconventionally attractive, whereas I think Aveline is conventionally unattractive (which really is more Hollywood unattractive but YMMV). Does that make sense?

I do agree with you re: trends, though.

Speaking strictly for myself as a straight male who enjoys watching girl on girl pornography(among many other kinds; variety is the spice of life), when the actresses are explicitly lesbians, there's no real thought of them being attainable or "turning them straight"; it's just an act that I find pleasing to watch.

I don't think all lesbians in media should exist strictly for my titillation, though.

Not every straight males find lesbians hot though.

All I mean is that I find women hot, and I'm perfectly happy to have sex with multiple partners, including lots of women, but I just can't wrap my head around the idea of women being attracted to women as some kind of attractive quality anymore than I can find the idea of men attracted to men attractive. If I like a guy - and that's rare, because my taste is pretty narrow - I'll be really disappointed he's not into me (or guys).

I guess it's just that the fantasy doesn't work for me if I'm not there to enjoy it, so to speak.

I think the idea of lesbians in media/porn being hot to straight guys is more that they're never actually going to have a chance with these women, anyway, so they might as well get the most pleasing overall aesthetic. If it was a woman in real life that they wanted to date, it would probably be less appealing.

Yeah, i remember you saying this. But sadly that's how most men view lesbians anyway, as some hard mission to 'turn them straight'.... besides, they're 2 women and straight men like women and that's fine as long as they don't treat my sexuality like a fetish or 'adventure' or something crazy these men have in their mind....

Keep in mind I'm not totally straight, so I'm probably not the best source of insight into the dudebro psyche. In fact, I'm probably a terrible source of insight into the dudebro psyche.

You know, just throwing this out here, but it could just because straight guys like looking at porn women, and have little to no interest in looking at porn men.  It could have nothing at all to do with 'hur hur, lezbos, I'ma gonna turn 'em straight!' and everything to do with two more globes and one less elephant on the screen.

Eh, what do I know?

Or what Former_Friend said.

That's interesting, because thinking about the bold (for me), is pretty much a total mood killer.

Annnywways. Back to actual DA:I related romance discussion?

I think the real question is Scribbles - once she has a name, if she ever gets a name - will she be an LI? Will we ever see her face in a close up shot that isn't a blown-up cut-out of a poster? Will she be the Grey to our Warden, to quote Isabella?

I actually expect her to be along shortly.  Things seem to have sped up the last week, and we just got Leliana, so Cullen and Scribbles shouldn't be too far behind.

They released a profile and interview for Leliana, so I think we'll likely see that for Scribbles before the end of next week. I'm less sure how soon they'll announce more LIs. I think it's very possible they'll tell us more once all the characters are announced officially, though.

Dear Internets,

Nude women are pleasing to look at.

Two nude women are doubly pleasing.

Their sexual orientation or the fact that I could, or could not, ever attain a relationship with them, has zero bearing on this.

Sincerely,

Straight dude on a video game forum who is REALLY effing confused how this conversation ended up here.

Well, with Cullen seemingly going to the next reveal since they already have his stills ready, we will probably get her name and close up pics on Monday followed by an interview on Tuesday.

'hur hur, lezbos, I'ma gonna turn 'em straight!'

Errrr, in real life there are a lot of straight men who think like this. Why do you think gay women get flirted by straight men a lot, even when we say we're not interested in men?

You'd be surprised by what those dudes have said.

Anyway, we're getting waaaay off topic lol so about those romances...

Yeah, I'm hopeful they'll tell us the LIs then, too. Hopefully at least the bi LIs, since they're totally relevant.

If she is a LI... and I think she will be.

I just hope they didn't stray too far from her concept art, cause I thought it was really compelling.

Not every straight males find lesbians hot though.

But at the same time, they would find it a lot less "gross" than seeing 2 gay guys. That is why it's safer to have lesbians than gays, and it's a lot more aesthetically pleasing to have a female even if they're not into them rather than a gay guy that may "prey" on them like every gay guy out there who plotting everyday on how to get into their pants even if they look like a product of Uncle Fester dating Frankenstein's wife.
