Incorrect. She works on it for the same amount of time on both paths, and while she doesn't destroy it on the friendship path, she does stop trying to help people who never wanted help to begin with and lets go of the Eluvian obsession anyway. Also, one never stands by; the friendship path does help her out when problems arise in Act 3.

Destroy it, simple answer to remove it.

But I think this thread was derailed enough. We both have our opinions, and neither of us will convince the other, so lets move on to this upcoming game.

DAI Romances related. As far as I know it hasn't been confirmed but does anyone think Cassandra and Cullen are going to be straight or bi? I've got a feeling Cullen is going to be bi and Cassandra is going to be straight just because I think the Bisexual romances will be the NPC ones. No real reason I think that though just a hunch on my own part.

Dorian and Sera are the only characters who have had their sexuality explicitly spelled out.

The main origin stuff yes. Fair enough I'll take it as she knows it's a portal. So...how exactly will fixing that help her people? Especially when she knows that according to Tamlen and Mahriel it teleported to somewhere there was darkspawn? Hell how exactly does she know "cleansing" it isn't merely a temporary measure until she reactivates it and it points exactly back to what corrupted it in the first place? Seeing as how the mirror wasn't tainted or spewing darkspawn til Tamlen touched (activated) it?

Hell thinking on like that makes the mirror thing worse.

Or it might not have. There's really no way to know either way.

That's why Anders is there. I think that when she turned the thing on, she'd bring Anders in so he could sense any taint that might be starting to build up within the Eluvian and then smash it if it was necessary.

Destroy it, simple answer to remove it.

Simple yet wrong.

I don't dislike Merrill I've told you I like her plenty of times. Its her actions in game I don't like. And what information does she point out? Maybe its on the friendship path? (which would make no sense the rivalry path is the perfect time to point it out). Because she keeps going "this'll save my people, this'll save my people." then never mentions how.

You seem to have more of a problem with the writing than you do with what Merrill knows.

"You called a demon here." during the Sundermount quest. Someone felt the veil shift when she lowered the barrier. Somehow I'm thinking getting demons to do favors for her is par for the course for Merrill. It's not just bloodmagic. Also Hawke deal with the profane (if he/she makes one) would've blown up in his/her face if he/she was fighting competent (if Hawke's good at anything it's blundgeoning very hard). You can figure out Torpor's information on your own. There's nothing the demons could've told Hawke that he wouldn't have found out five minutes later. It's not like Torpor's info gives you better prepration.

I recall Merrill using blood magic to take down the barrier. Also, you seem to have completely misunderstood what I wrote; Hawke doesn't have to make a deal with the Profane Abomination, he can gather information, and then choose to immediately attack it. This is also the case with Torpor. No deal needs to be brokered with either spirit.

I know that, I'm just asking what people would think the sexualities of Cassandra and Cullen would be  ^_^

Still have a feeling that the NPC romances will be Bisexual though and that the straight romances will be followers just like the gay romances are.

Tough love, versus helping someone who clearly does not know what to do to actually fix the mirror? I will take the tough love.

Actually reading Fae's posts I have more of a an issue with both. Merrill completely fails to realize it's not all about her when she's building something that spread the taint in the most undefended part of the city and she fails to explain any good points it'd have. It's selfish and dangerous. The dalish didn't want her building it around them (for good reason) so she decides to make the decision for the city elves instead of taking a bit of risk on herself and building it somewhere isolated.

Yeah and I recall the veil shift comment. Not sure if it was Anders or Bethany but it was one of the two. Hawke can also get that information by attacking them immediately and walking a few feet. Neither gave him any information that he was incapable of getting on his own for free. It's not the same as Merrill's deal with the pride demon. He was not going to give her information she couldn't find on her on for free. Demon's aren't altruistic.

I'm holding off any assumptions of Cullen and Cassandra's sexuality until the stated by the devs.

the Mirror is an unhealthy obsession. Best for Merrill to destroy it.

I can concede that Merrill gets too heavily invested into the mirror by late in the game (forgetting to eat and whatnot), but you're presenting a false dichotomy. That she either has to completely destroy it to end the "obsession," or she's still completely "obsessed" just by keeping it in tact. Of course in the friendship path, it's not enough for her to realize that she has been too heavily invested in it for too long, agree to leave it alone for a while, maybe decide come back to it at a later date when she's not so close to the issue. NOPE. Not good enough. She either has to destroy it completely or she's still de facto "obsessed."

Having the mirror itself is a problem and an obsession, not just the way she handled it for a while. The mirror itself has to go, not her learn to let go for a while.

It's revolutionary technology that could have irrevocably changed the lives of the People for the better. And after Marethari dies because of her own actions, Merrill makes the decision to move on, because the Eluvian remains inert.

I'm totally fine with playersexual romances, but I'm definitely glad to have at least a few where its explicitly spelled out.  I always feel it has the potential to add to a character, and since I don't mind playing either gender, I'm fine with a few exclusive romances.

Yeah too bad she couldn't build that somewhere she wasn't a few feet away from a good amount of defenseless people. As it is it's still a utterly terrible plan.

Well, they'd at least be more relevant to the thread than 5 pages about Merrill. lol

A reasonable way to go about it.  Just trying to steer this thread back onto topic though I'm not very good at it, it seems ^^;

The temptation will still be there. IF someone is drunk, do they just simply refuse to drink in order to sober up? No, likely they will not go to bars when sobering up.

Well to be fair some do. Those people have strong wills though.

She does not. She lets go completely when she destroys it. She does not do that on the friendship side, which is simply enabling her to work on it for no reason, and simply standing by when problems happen that are resultant from her actions and desires in the first place.

Merrill moves on from the Eluvian whether or not it's been destroyed. You're being insincere by suggesting she doesn't move on when she comes to this conclusion on her own in Friendship to focus on something other than ending the plight of the People with the Eluvian.

It still exists, showing that she cannot stop herself from keeping it. How long until she feels the need to fix it?

But let's drop this. I believe rivalry is best for merrill.

I'm hoping the advisors are BI also, but who knows. The Devs don't always do what we expect. I don't mind really as long as I enjoy the romance.

Understandable.  What I will say that I'm pretty happy that Cassandra's a romantic interest.  Mostly because she looks really good in the new graphics engine.

If she'd built it on the Wounded Coast, she'd get attacked by bandits/mabari/spiders/Tal-Vashoth/banbarder-Vashoth hybrids every five minutes, and then the apostates would steal the Eluvian and sell it to that hermit merchant. I mean, she could buy it off him again, maybe, but it'd be a huge hassle.

Also the thought that rivalry Hawke is against Merrill trying to better her people is laughable considering rival Hawke can suggest Merrill find other ways to help her people. (In general not anyone in specific). Wanting someone to find a less risky way to themselves and those around them to get information is hardly being a human supremacist.
