Alright.

ANYWAY

I do want another rivalry like romance. Even if it's the default :3

A bouncing snarky comments at each other but woe betide someone else does it romance is my fav.

I loved how Carver was all mage. But the second someone else did it he was up in their face <3

Given all the crap that rivalmances stirred up in DA2, I want nothing more to do with them in DAI. Even if it's Vivienne. I say that with some pain, but I know that I have to be fair if I want to ensure that no one else is subject to it.

Well everyone has their preferences.

But if you don't like the romance you can just not do it. I know I don't do romances I don't prefer.

Also didn't the devs say some romances would be rivalrylike? I could've sworn I heard that...

I'm not into rivalmances. It's totally a preference thing for me, but I'm more of a sappy person. In fact, the main reason I hope Cullen is bi is that I think he'll be the mushy romance. lol

I'm not sure I follow. But since I believe it was suggested we could start a romance independent of approval, that suggests that some element of that will still be present in DA:I.

Snarky romances don't have to be like a rivalmance, my mom and her boyfriend are snarky with one another but are still constantly very chummy.

Though I would love a romance where you can snark with your LI and make jokes about the other one all in good fun of course :)

My only issues with the rivalrymances were you should've gotten dumped for more things than you did.

Hopefully with the new approval system they'll have that. Romancing Merrill in a rivalrymance as a bloodmage should've gotten you dumped for being a hypocrite, Anders should've dumped a hardliner pro templar, Fenris should've dumped a bloodmage.

I know. My grandparents are like that.

I just prefer the rivalrymance version XD

I don't really care if rivalmances are included, though, if it's not the only path. I will just go the friend path, if it's available, so it's whatever.

Er... a shining example of such crap can be found on any of the previous six pages.

Sometimes it does things to the characters that I consider narratively damaging. I'd rather not have the game have any part of that.

Oh, you mean in the fanbase? I thought you meant in-game, and I was confused, because the romances were self-contained (regardless of what you thought about them).

What you consider narratively damaging isn't what the devs consider narratively damaging so I can't muster up a care for that. If you don't like it don't do it. But it's as much a part of the characters characterization as the friendship path is.

That was rather unique and fun about the Carth romance.  You could snark/tease/name-call each other in a light-hearted manner.

I remember the Devs saying that Rivalry was not being mean, but  just disagreeing on the companion's big issue. I personally preferred the rivalry romance for Merrill because it seemed more realistic, not like the rivalry romance which was simply butterflies and rainbows.

XD calling him a brainless bantha and hairless wookie gets me everytime. It'd be one of my favorite romances if he didn't spend most of the game with the trust issues act (I mean yeah it's justified but it's so tiresome).

I don't think I've ever seen a friendly snarky rivalmance before but then again I've only rivalmance Anders and Merrill and that was a long time ago.

I just want an LI that can handle mean humor so I can feel like I'm joking with them like I do my family, if a day goes by where I don't call my grandma an old crow or tease her about her illogical behavior she starts to think I'm feeling depressed. Though our humor is off to a lot of people so maybe my experience is very different from most people's since I've been called a disrespectful little sh*t before and almost hit by someone who didn't get that I was joking around with my grandmother before^^;

Still would like an LI that you can lovingly insult and they'll give it right back to you and the two of you can laugh over who has the best ones.

What game is Carth from? Sounds like I may like him.

Edit: Also what system is the game on? Sorry about my lack of knowledge very very late getting into Bioware^^;

The devs said that, but outside of Isabella, that is not what happened. Merril's situation was pretty emotionally charged, what Hawke basically saying she's lost touch with reality and Merrill using racial slurs against you. Anders and Fenris were straight up abusive.

Perhaps, but that is what happened. Merrill and Hawke in rivalry disagreed on the issue of the mirror/portal.

Anders and Fenris were both jerks in their own special ways.

Fenris rivalrymance was abusive on Fenris' end (fixed that. Fenris is the one who's usually hurling abuse at Hawke who can either laugh at it (god I love snarky Hawke), get angry back (aggressive) or just take it (diplo). Anders more on Hawkes (but I'll say it once again douchecanoe Aggressive Hawke wasn't the only way to play a rivalrymance but Anders does his own amount of manipulation and "if you loved me you'd do this." so he wasn't guilt free in that trainwreck either). Anders rivalrymance is not abusive with a diplo Hawke. It's a disagreement and diplo Hawke would rather Anders talk his issues out with the Chantry.

Outside the your incompetent and shem remarks Merrill's wasn't that bad. And Isabela's is mostly Hawke calling her selfish and her calling him a stick in the mud. Hell that was downright normal compared to the rest.

Yeah, I'm the same. I haven't done any of the rivalmances at all, despite having I think around seven or eight Hawkes. I tend to think that, if Hawke and the prospective LI disagree on this fundamental thing that they're doing or that they care about, a solid romantic relationship can't be anything but dysfunctional.

Did you mean Friendship (in your last line)? It wasn't "butterflies and rainbows", it was Hawke supporting Merrill on a course of action that she knew about (i.e. the construction of the Eluvian). I thought it was really good. When she talks about how Hawke is the first person who really supported her, I felt that the relationship was truly meaningful. I guess an elven Inquisitor will be in Merrill's spot this time, where Andrastians will critique his Dalish views.

And there are times with a rivalry with Merrill where you can say you are protecting her, and she refuses to listen. Then in the romance, she tries to warn Hawke off, and yet Hawke stays with her, to protect her from her own actions and the potential results.

Carth is an LI from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.  The original, not the sequel.  He is written by Gaider.

You can find it for the PC as well as Xbox consoles.   :)

Edited to add:  Apparently it's on iOS too.  Huh.

Honestly, I just think it's weird that these people would want to be in a relationship with you if you opposed them on major issues. Some things I get are arguable, but something like Anders dating someone that sides with the templars over and over is just absurd, to me. I can't believe he would do that. Like, I just can't accept how that could make logical sense. It's one thing to disagree on some issues, or even on some of each other's life choices, but some things I think go too far and the rival system doesn't recognize that.

Especially with all the gating they're doing now, it makes no sense to me to have the companions hook up with you no matter what your personality is. To me, that's more, as they say, "immersion breaking" than the all bi/race blind system they had before.

I meant the friendship romance. I felt it was, simply because everything was fine with them. Same for every romance on the friendship path.
