Especially with all the gating they're doing now, it makes no sense to me to have the companions hook up with you no matter what your personality is. To me, that's more, as they say, "immersion breaking" than the all bi/race blind system they had before.  

 

Oh yes that's why I'd want certain choices to be deal breakers. But merely being pro mage with a pro templar companion? I could see that working in a rivalry with the two of you trying to get the other to sway to your POV (provided of course that you had other things in common).

 

 

And there are times with a rivalry with Merrill where you can say you are protecting her, and she refuses to listen. Then in the romance, she tries to warn Hawke off, and yet Hawke stays with her, to protect her from her own actions and the potential results.

 

Yeah those scenes were sad. (It does help that I romance her with the Hawke that I have whole family die then kill off Merrill's clan) so they're pretty much two sad peas in a pod at the end. Hawke is over protective cause he's tired of losing people he cares about cause he felt he slacked off and Merrill is slowly losing everyone and the mirror's swallowing up her life. (Yeah I know all my bleh tragedy romance and I make that XD I guess I don't mind it so much when it's not the default? )

Carth is an LI from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.  The original, not the sequel.  He is written by Gaider.  

 

You can find it for the PC as well as Xbox consoles.

I meant the friendship romance. I felt it was, simply because everything was fine with them. Same for every romance on the friendship path.

 

Hawe is supportive of Merrill, and he's a confidant when she's going through a lot of hardship and pain by giving up her clan to achieve a goal she believes in. It's also a relationship where she won't be able to have elven children, and where her heritage might die with her. The discussion where she made reference to how she would be giving up having elven children by being with Hawke was also a reminder that she was making a sacrifice to be with him. I wish Hawke could have commented on that, instead of not acknowledging it directly.

I've always believed that like and love should be reliant upon our PC's actions and decisions in-game far more than just being neutral or nice and clicking on the flirt options whenever they come up.  The influence system showed aspects of that.  For example, if your PC repeatedly decides to help mages and aid the mage rebellion, then the LI that hates mages/is against the rebellion should not be interested in romancing you or breaks it off with you for "irreconcilable differences" after x many encounters/decisions or with the really big game-plot weighty ones.

I can't ever do a friendship romance since the first time. I see it as too perfect. For friendship romance, I prefer Isabella's, which actually seemed like a real friends-with-benefits-to-true-love story.

Aside from knowing some things about the Carth LI yeah going to go in unspoiled unless I get stuck at a puzzle (I"m bad at those). Never played it before, the first Bioware game I ever played was DAO ^^;

But ooooh play JE while you're at it. Get the GOG version. I've heard bad things about the steam version. (JE burst my BW bubble and what a lovely burst it was )

You're welcome!  I hope you'll enjoy the game, there are a lot of interesting character bits and good aspects to the game.

I remember the Devs saying that Rivalry was not being mean, but  just disagreeing on the companion's big issue. I personally preferred the rivalry romance for Merrill because it seemed more realistic, not like the rivalry romance which was simply butterflies and rainbows.

 

I think we had mixed success on this, however.  I can understand how some people had issues with them.

Cousin introduced me to the game mostly highlighted his guy crush on Alistair and made me take the copy home with me so I could enjoy it. I'm glad he was pushy about it otherwise I would have never experienced the fun of it all x3. Shame he isn't excited about DAI though

I didn't even know it was on PC. Still have my xbox version.

 

Yeah I got both. I got the special edition on GOG lately but the xbox version was the one I first got. Totally impulse buy. The joy I felt when I could play a female and she wasn't a bimbo or being ordered around by male characters, had a romance option and was damned awesome is so hard to describe. It felt like a new world opened up and I've been a BW fan since XD.

Easiest bet is just get the downloadable, Xbox classics version for 360. It's on their store.

 

I'll keep that in mind thank you. So far my quick search has said it's either out of stores or close to 80$ which I can't afford at the moment^^;
