I wonder how it will work with  DLCs for the npc romances. ( Let's just think DA:I will be successful enough to do that ) If we have a DLC like Legacy or Mota, I don't see how they could be relevant enough or how we could bring them along us. Cullen, okay, but Scribe girl....

Or we could have something like Citadel. But I didn't like the fact that the story was mostly irrelevant and how it was more about the romance content. ( I must be the only one who was disturbed by the citadel dlc ) I'm not sure the DA team is willing to do such thing, ( not really interestng ) especially that Citadel was like a gift for the Ma devs after the ending.

I thought the Citadel DLC was super popular with the fanbase? At least my understanding was that it sold like crazy.

Doesn't Bioware have their own marketing team?

Yes, but I thought EA had the final say as to what is confirmed and what stays a mystery.  Perhaps Allan can clear this up for his when he pops by later.

It was worth every penny too.  ;)

That would depend entirely on the content of the DLC, I imagine. Would it have worked with Mark of the Assassin or Legacy, specifically? Probably not, but there are other ways to do a DLC without it being Citadel.

Also, popular theory on Scribbles is that she's a mage, so she could well be as combat capable as Leliana or Cullen.

Do we have an AllanSignal we can shine above the rooftops of Goth...err...the BSN?

And yes, yes it was.

It sounds good, but I never played it. ME3s original ending killed the franchise for me. I'd like an equivalent for DA:I.

Well, presumably the Advisor(s) could travel with you to Chateau Haine as part of your entourage. Legacy is the harder one to pull off, because it's a pure dungeon crawl.

LOL No need for the Allan Signal.  He typically comes by later in the evening.  I usually start seeing him post at about 8pm MST/10pm East Coast.  He's very good at keep an eye on the forums, especially this thread.  ;)

While I agree that announcing orientations all at once would have saved a lot of heartache, I think it would have gone over quite badly if they announced the romanceable characters before that. Just imagine the forum rage if people got all into, say, a Sera or Dorian romance only to find out they're not available to their preferred gender.

It could still happen with Cassandra and Cullen.

I'm still mad about the race gating, for the record.

I'm not. It's more realistic and encourages playing with different races.

I would not worry too much about Advisers just yet. Sure, in the game itself if that is your LI - you loose the fun keeping your LI constantly at your sight. However, you get to take more other companions, since that slot normally occupied by LI is free now. Plus - do not forget DLCs. Advisers - are not someone they have to add. So, I do believe we might be able to see DLCs totally dedicated to our Advisers or at least made in a way, where advisers become companions in traditional meaning.

Just saying.

BIoware has said NO DLC COMPANIONS. And I don't see why people are so worried about Advisor romances, I'm sure they'll be great.

I loved the Citadel DLC and if they included something like that with DAI I'd buy it.

It'd be even nicer if they just had content like that already in the game to begin with.

Think Citadel DLC made perfect sense for the situation.

However i'm not keen on repetition. Meatier story DLC like DA2 implemented are much more what i want in dlc personally.

I understand the reasoning for race gating on a gameplay standpoint, buuuuut....all I'll be able to see is someone who doesn't like someone else because they're the wrong 'race'. Which, you know, is generally frowned upon in polite society.

I just don't see how it encourages replays.

If I was deadset against playing a certain race, that race having exclusive access to an LI isn't going to be enough to change my mind.

Alternatively, if I was deadset on romancing one character and it turns out that character is only available to a race I didn't initially plan on playing as, I'd just play as that race to start with.

Now, I'm going to play the game multiple times as multiple races, but I don't see this as being the make or break(and in fact I plan on purposefully avoiding any racially exclusive romances). At best, it's one reason on a pile of them.

As for realism, give me the human/elf/dwarf companion who'll only romance qunari because they have a size/amazon fetish. Give me the companion who refuses to romance the Inquisitor at all because we're fit and they like 'em on the chunky side. Gimme the human who'll only romance dwarves because they're just the right height and the elf who won't romance humans at all because of every reason xmegaplex has. Hell, gimme the human who won't romance a human inquisitor if we select the darkest or lightest skin tone, or the one who won't romance us because we selected a mustache or hairstyle they don't like.

Put all those in there and then I'll consider it realistic.

Put "allow" instead of "encourage" then.

Game doesn't need this feature to allow for that.

As it stands, the only thing the inclusion of race restrictions has inspired me to do is on playthroughs where I'm playing a race that's compatible with the restricted romances, I'm going to kick those romance options off the team.

That sort of racism just isn't consistent with the setting.

Yep and it's actually much harder on the fans (not to mention cruel... you hear me, BioWare?! CRUEL!) because we've known Cass and Cullen much, much longer than Sera or Dorian, and many people have fallen in love with them and began shipping their characters with them years ago.

The argument in favor of restrictions apparently is "It isn't racist, they just don't find their physical features attractive."

That can apply to human skin tones as easily as it could to qunari horns or elf ears.

Are racist characters not allowed in fiction all of a sudden?

Eh they're allowed I'd just rather not deal with em. If that makes me PC so be it. Racism is part of the setting and I wouldn't ask the devs to change their vision but if I have the option to kick those characters to the curb take that option I shall.

Again, isn't something I get personally, just something I acknowledge exists and is therefore 'realistic'.

Are racist characters not allowed in fiction all of a sudden?

They're absolutely allowed in fiction.

And I'm absolutely allowed to kick them off of my team.
