Romance & Companion Interaction (General Information)

 

Romance will be in the game, with no stronger or lighter a presence than it has had before.

 

It is unknown at this point how the potential Friendship/Loyalty system will work. Only that it will NOT be the same as either Origins or DA2.

 

There will be more romance options available than in any previous Dragon Age game to date.^[5] Dragon Age 2 had 5, so this implies at least 6 romance options.

 

(There was confusion on this point, in that it was initially stated to be more than any "previous Bioware game". But this has been clairifed in Mike Laidlaw's twitter to be "previous Dragon Age game".)

I swear, there is an almost worship of those pants like Dorian has of his 'stache, Varric with his chest hair, and Blackwall with his beard.

I have a good feeling that Sribbles, Vivienne, Solas, the Iron Bull and Varric are all LIs. With everyone except Varric being bi, I put Varric as a race gated LI only available to female dwarfs.

I didn't like early pictures of Solas, but I think he looks much, much better now. Baldness suits him just fine for me, and I don't like topknots. I still think the other M/M option, if there is only one, is probably IB. He's a state agent of a totalitarian empire and is missing an eye, BUT he is also missing a mustache. So that's pretty good. Some pretty cute guys in this game.

I don't think Iron Bull's tweet link counts as a confirmation, even a questionable one, since she says in the same conversation string that she was just "going for encouraging rampant speculation". I mean, IB may be a romance, but she literally says she's not confirming it. I don't really understand why people keep acting like it's a confirmation when she says the opposite.

Like if you're playing as female Qunari, there's no guarantee you'll have as many option as a female human player, but you will have an option of some sort. It just might not be the person you or other people want, which is where we start running into problems.

It's not just the tweet(s); it's some language about IB boning down with anyone (non-gender specific) in some promotional material. That is a second piece of circumstantial evidence, which can also serve as incontestable confirmation if you'd like. Why not.

 

Please feel free to attribute my thoughts and feelings about Iron Bull's sexual orientation and status as a love interest to any and all devs.

No males here, straight or otherwise... I'm still hoping that Cass is bi. Bioware is known for making complex characters with great depth, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. heck, I doubt the Cassandra romance will be like that. I'm guessing she might be more of 'tough outside, soft inside' type of gal.

I don't think it would be a false claim, though. She never really said he was a romance and she was pretty clear in the conversation that she wasn't confirming or denying anything.

The thing is people don't bother with the context of the tweet in question (it's not the first case of that). It always came off has a "you could waste a play-through trying to romance him and never succeed" when I read the tweet she was responding to.
