Qunari are going to be more popular than elves and dwarves. I doubt they'll experience the bulk of the race-gating.

That said, I don't find any of the companions uninteresting at this point.

There will be a secret, tenth companion that will embody everything you find boring and unattractive.

Semi confirmed rumor Sebastian back as 10th companion only with even less dialog outside quests directly related to him.

Please let this happen Bioware. I'll preorder this game twice if you do this.

I'm not so sure about that. Most RPG games races popularity goes from most human looking to less human looking (minus in Asia where cute and fury is the most popular).

For DA, this mean human > elves > qunari1> dwarf > qunari2 . Where qunari1 is the Sten-type and qunari2 is the Arishok type.

The setting lack a cute and fury race...

That actually sounds great. Race actually mattering within the world. Actually being acknowledged for what you are, some actual chance to roleplay!

I'd take that over getting to choose which bunch of pixels I want to bang any day.

I honestly don't mind the "winning over factions becomes more difficult" aspect that they've talked about.

The rest, though, just feels like they're punishing qunari players.

I wonder about ME though.  I'd like to see the romance distribution for the female characters (Ashley, Liara, Miranda, Jack, and Tali) and male characters (Kaidan, Jacob, Garrus, and Thane) for their first games.  It's a bit different because we knew Tali and Garrus for a whole game before they became available, but I'd still like to see what the breakdown looked like.

Then why are dranei and orcs more popular than dwarves and gnomes in WoW?

You're confusing who you want to be with who you want to bang.

Krogan were popular in ME 3 MP, but I'm going to guess the average player found asari far more attractive.

Having never played WoW I can't say anything about that. I don't even know what is a dranei (and I'm not really interested in knowing either).

World of Warcraft had 12 million players at its peak. If you're going to talk about consumer preferences when it comes to picking a fantasy race, it seems a bit foolish to ignore it.

Height and general attractiveness both influence selection. Blood elves are the second most popular race, probably because they're better looking than any other Horde race. Dranei though are space goat people with tentacle faces and are still far more popular than gnomes and dwarves. I mean, the undead are more popular than the gnomes and they have rotting faces and bodies.

Going by this (no idea how accurate it is), once you fall off the human/elves, the distribution is quite similar until you reach the short race (I think the Pandaren stat is wrong).

I could honestly see elves and Qunari being pretty equal in popularity. I think elves will be more popular with their current, almost human look than if they looked more like DA2 elves. The elves we've seen are basically humans with pointy ears. Solas and Sera don't even look smaller than the average human height in the war room shot.

I think besides the ears, the main thing that differentiates elves from humans is a leaner/less muscular build, but yeah. They pretty much look like humans with pointy ears. I think in general elves will be a more popular choice than Qunari because most of us find what looks like us more aesthetically pleasing. I'm just happy we finally have the chance to be Qunari. :3

Were it not for the fact I have a stubble, I basically have the height/build of a DA:O elf. Hell, with long enough hair I'd look exactly like one, since my ears aren't visible.

I'm happy to have the chance to be an elf again, but I wont use dwarf/qunari. I wouldn't miss them if they were removed. I'm happy for people that wanted them, but if we were going on a vote basis, I would go for just human or human/elf, if that was possible. If there were unlimited resources, then I'd say make everything, but it seems like adding all these new races strains the cinematics budget. We're especially seeing that with romances, I think, with the added gating.

Female Draenei are popular because they are hot, it's as simple as that. Their male counterparts aren't nearly as popular. Female Orcs are incredibly rare as well.

I think it'll probably go Female elf > Male qunari >  Male elf > female qunari

Human first, and then tallest to shortest.

Yeah, I think it will go Human, Qunari, Dwarves and then Elves. The Qunari are so mysterious and a lot of people will want to know what it's like to be one. I bet even the casual fans will be like, "Whoa! A human ox??! Sign me up!"

Haven't elves always been the most popular, though? Besides humans, of course. They give the option of being something different (less boring, I guess) but remaining "safe" because they look so similar. xD I dunno, I guess I'm just making a dumb guess, haha. I've always loved the choice of dwarves and welcome the qunari because I find them cool looking, but I thought that outlook was in the minority. Gotta agree... Draenei were popular because they were 'pretty' and had boobs.  -_-Pretty blue women, like the Asari.
