Well, there I really disagree, because even if I think it might be better if we all have the exact same options, I think it's good a thing if there's more options in general, provided that the number of options for each demographic are even. And though I hope that every one have choices for his/her favorite race combo, I don't think it's necessary that they're even in the same way I think it is for each gender/sexuality combination

I have to ask. I have seen several people saying that there are more LI options for women than men. Since I have only heard of Dorian for men, Sera for women and Cassandra and Cullen as unknown, that would make 2 for each gender. Did I miss something awesome?

It's just speculation at this point, a possibility because there are more men than women in the Inquisition group. It's assumed that the remaining unannounced LIs are bi or straight, so more men = more men for female PCs.

You haven't missed anything awesome.  People are talking out the side of their mouth.  Beyond Sera and Dorian, and Cullen and Cass (sexuality unknown), we have no other official announcements.

I'm just adamantly opposed to the concept.

If you go by m/f or f/m, the females DO have more options, considering the fact that there are more male companions.

EDIT: This is for potential LIs of course, since not much is confirmed yet.

Not every companion is going to be an LI, and not every LI is going to be a companion.

This is what I thought. We might have more men in the party, but that doesn't mean that they are going to be LI. I could imagine that Ducan's long lost twin brother (aka. Blackwall) might not be one.

I should've included "potential" in there somwhere, then.

So far we know Cole and Leliana won't be LI's. Beyond that, it's up in the air.

When has Cole been denied as a LI? I have heard people saying that, but I have no idea who said it and when.

Gaider, several times, on account of Cole having the mentality of a young child.

But the biology stance makes no sense. It's not possible to say for example that Humans can't ever be attracted to Dwarves and vice versa because of their lyrium resistance or whatnot. Especially when there is an existing canon couple that proves otherwise.

The biology argument wouldn't be that the different races couldn't be attracted to each other, but that they have a biological reason not to want the relationship - for example, an elf who was concerned about the continuation of their species might not have relationships with humans or dwarves because the children of those relationships would be humans or dwarves.  That has zero to do with attraction, so it doesn't in any way contradict existing relationships, since we can assume that those characters weren't concerned about having same-species children.

We don't know much about the Qunari and reproduction, so it remains to be seen how that would work out, but I assume that if they go that route for Qunari character then we'll hear something about it.

Taste makes sense. And yes, sometimes that does leave nasty implications but it is realistic and it would be lazy to do otherwise. I'd rather deal with Varric simply thinking my Human is kinda gross for being a Human than having Bioware tell me that it's biologically impossible.

I haven't seen anyone talk about dwarf/human relationships as biologically impossible, so I don't know where that's coming from (we've seen them in the comics, and potentially in Origins, so it would be silly) - but if we do see something with a physical limit, I think it's more likely to be coming from Qunari characters.  The way I imagine it is if (for example) Iron Bull has crushed a dwarf or elf in the past and doesn't want to risk it again, or something along those lines.

The only companion that argument might apply to is Solas(Sera, being a lesbian, obviously doesn't take that into account), and what we know about Solas' personality points to him not caring, either.

Something that might be of interest here, from the Raptr chat (thanks to the people in the Twitter thread that linked the info):

Major characters all track something similar to approval, but the system has changed to put more focus on what you are doing and what you say instead of grinding by constantly giving them gifts. Each follower does have their own set of goals they want to achieve and if you help them, they will appreciate it/ And if you ****** them off, they might just leave. --Laidlaw

I expect this to mater in the case of romance as well...

Sure, I was using elves as an example since we know that they don't produce elf children with other races.  I imagine that most of the race-gates will be for Qunari, and  we just don't know enough about the Qunari to know if that's an issue for them.  If it is (which I can see, since they're the most distinct-looking of the four), I can see that coming up more often than "I just don't like people of your race".

And I may well be wrong, but until we officially hear otherwise, that's the angle I'm assuming they'd generally want to aim for.

I'm really starting to think with the race gates they'll go the DAO approach and just not let you have the option of trying to flirt with LIs that are not into your race or gender. You can talk to them and befriend them still but any flirty dialog will just never show up. That's the only way I can right now see them going about it without having to dance around the whole 'you're wonderful and all but I'm not into your kind sorry, but if you were a different race then yeah there could have been something'

I think it'll come down to this, as well. Which is one of the reasons I'm aggravated by it; it's punishing qunari players for playing qunari.

I wouldn't be surprised, but I hope they'll be honest about it.

And I hope we'll get that same option.

So far it's the only way I can think of where it's not putting such an ugly flaw on someone. Even my grandmother who isn't into gaming agreed that race gates were an odd choice (she said it differently but this is a more polite way to put it)

Normally I just prefer a 'I'm not interested.' buuuuuuuuut just for the reaction it would be fun to pick it if it was an option just shooting them all down saying you're not into their race though I have a feeling to them it'll be bad if you say it but not the other way around. Though I doubt that'll be an option all together. I guess we'll see when the game comes out but nothing so far is making me warm up to the idea of race gates. I do agree though if they are going to shoot us down because we're the 'wrong' race then our PCs that are the 'right' race should be able to shoot them down with the same line.

I don't like putting pretty dresses on ugly truths.

As for the rest; I think the PC should be able to do anything the NPC's can do. If Dorian or Sera hit on us when we're a man or a woman respectively, we should be able to hit on(and be shot down by) them when we're the opposite gender.

I hate this kind of hypocrisy. If the companions can shoot my PC down for X reason my PC should be able to do the same. And no I shouldn't get a massive approval loss because of it.

For me personally even if it isn't meant to come off in a bad way it still does and a flaw like that can really ruin your opinion of someone. Like my grandmother has a friend a sharp tongued funny lady who is quite caring with a rough shell, but she is racist and it's kind of hard for me to look past that on her since she isn't quite about it either. So I am aware I may have a personal bias and I don't think that racism to fantasy races is going to encourage real life racism at all. I just find it an ugly trait fantasy or otherwise and one that makes it hard to get to know the person once you are aware of that flaw. (sorry for that tangent there)

I agree with that but I just don't see it happening, I just see it not being an option all together like a female warden could never flirt with Morrigan or a male Hawke could never flirt with Sebastian (as far as I recall he couldn't). I just have a feeling it won't be there is all.

I agree with that 100% I'm just doubtful it will be implemented that way.
