I'm hoping for Solas, but expecting Varric or even Gaspard.

I do question whether the non-companion, non-advisor is included in the 8, or is more like one of the flings, or end-game political marriages from DAO.

I also think since Josephine was revealed as bisexual, a bisexual male should have been confirmed to balance it out... Already disappointed that the straight male LI is an advisor, thus lacking in banter and the sense of having him with the lady Inquisitor on adventures.  I expected it, but I'm still disappointed--particularly since the straight female LI is, of course, a companion.

Advisor banter was confirmed, though, so the guess is that we'll have ME3-like moments on the Normandy.

Updated list:

Straight

Cass (sigh)

Cullen

Bi

Josie

Solas

Gay

Dorian

Sera

Race gated:

Varric-straight

Iron Bull-bi

I've tossed any idea of "fairness" out the window, before anyone says anything.  I also didn't leave Vivienne out as an oversight; I just don't think she's going to be a LI.

I saw that said in the Raptr chat, but then David Gaider said no banter on Twitter. It's a bit weird.

Judging from the pattern and info given, a decent prediction can be made on the LIs.

I believe that it was stated somewhere that there would be eight LIs (?). Cullen, Sera, Cassandra, Josephine, and Dorian are the ones that have been confirmed so far.

This kind of implies that Vivienne is romanceable, and The Iron Bull has been pretty heavily teased to be romanceable.

So far there has been a warrior, mage, rogue, and advisor as LIs for each gender. So assuming each gender has an equal amount of LIs:

Female:

- Warrior: Cassandra

- Mage: Vivienne

- Rogue: Sera

- Advisor: Josephine

Male:

- Warrior: Iron Bull

- Mage: Dorian

- Rogue: ???

- Advisor: Cullen

This implies that the last LI is a rogue, which leaves Varric and Cole. I don't know how valid this information is, but I've heard someone say that two of the LIs are race-gated (don't know the source for this info). Assuming this is true, this makes me think that the two race-gated LIs are The Iron Bull, and Varric. Presumably they're race-gated because their sizes would require new cinematics for different races.

It'd be nice if Varric is romanceable; kind of wanted Blackwall to be romanceable though. Alas. :P

Of course, this is just a prediction based on some patterns. :>

Maybe DG took banter to mean what we usually think banter means, i.e., companion back and forth while you're walking around.

I think banter for DG refers specifically to conversations triggering from approaching certain areas with your party and such, which obviously excludes the advisors. But I think there's potential for, as was said, ambient convos featuring an advisor in the Skyhold.

(At least I hope so. Josephine and Leliana need to talk about shoes at some point).

Wait, it seems it wasn't confirmed, because DG said later in a tweet they had the same amount of dialogue, but no banter... So we don't really know again  I got really late with the answer, I write terribly slow in english it seems  :D

Because they can't be in your party (unless on a mission for them specifically), the only place you would hear them banter would be within Skyhold or a camp.  So, they will have considerably less dialogue in terms of banter than the companions will.  Those who romance advisors will be missing out, unless they just want someone to "come home to," and some people do want that.  I want someone I can take on my adventures, though.

Cullen wasn't really someone I wanted to pursue in my first game or two, but still... I had thought I might give him a try in some playthrough or another.  Now I'm not so sure, because I love banter.  Banter and party convos are my fave parts of Dragon Age.

Honestly, the only character I have any real interest in romancing is Solas.  So if he's not available, I'll be eating my game-cake without romance-icing.

So this is what we know so far romance-wise, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just trying to make sense of all the information out there.

companions

Cassandra - romance -straight
Varric- unknown
Vivienne - unknown
Sera - romance - gay
Dorian - romance - gay
Iron Bull - unknown
Solas - unknown

Blackwall - unknown

Cole - no romance

Advisors:

Cullen - romance - straight
Josephine - romance - bi

Leliana - no romance

There are 8 romances, so there's 3 we don't know yet Of those 3, one is not a companion and not an advisor. Since Leliana is confirmed not to be romanceable, that means there's 2 more companions who will be a romance option. Of the 3 female companions, 2 are a romance option, so I doubt Viv will be a LI at this rate. Of the 6 male companions only one has been revealed, so that leaves Varric, Blackwall, Iron Bull or Solas as either a bi or straight romance option.

That sounds about right, right?

I'm going to assume they can say random things around the keep, but companions probably have more banter conversations with each other when you're moving around the world.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I hope Solas will still be available as a bi option, since there are likely two slots open still.  :(

This sounds about right.  The only thing that I'd add is that it is hinted at that IB is bisexual, whether he's an LI or not.

3 m/m companion li's and 1 f/f? I sure hope not. I personally don't think Varric and Bull will be li's at all (Bull might be a fling, nothing more) and Viv will be a racegated bi li (humans only). Unless I've missed new info, again (happens alot).

This is my general deduction about the information, too.  And that means those who romance advisors, will be missing out on extra dialogue. And that means those who romance Cullen or Josephine will be missing out.  I'm not super-angry or anything about it--again, Cullen wasn't my cup of tea in the first place--but it is definitely not fair for straight women, especially after the romance situation for straight women in ME3...

Two f/f, you forgot Sera.  I don't think Vivi is available at all.  They said that two LIs will be race gated and since race gating is due to technical limitations, I still say it's IB and Varric.  If there is one more m/m option via Iron Bull's racing gating, then I'm personally glad.  It's about time gay men had a few options this time.  And it leaves IB open for the ladies as well.

I wonder who the mysterious love interest could be. Perhaps a dwarven or elven character the protagonist might meet outside the Inquisition? I guess we'll find out eventually.

I'm intrigued by this mystery person... I'm hoping it might be some kind of antagonist? I'm just into the idea of there being a romantic element complicating the Inquisitor's relationship with a character who is opposed to their goals. It's a trope I really enjoy. :)

I meant companions, I'm still not convinced that the non-companion li's will be as good. I guess we'll see. Oh and I thought they said that race gating will be due to story reasons and not technical limitations (as you put it)?

I agree and am pretty disappointed for my female (preferred) PC's so far. :( I'm still crossing my fingers for Solas.

Ah, well, I guess we'll agree to disagree on that one.

No one is going to convince me that Varric isn't a race gated romance except for BioWare themselves.   :P

They said there was "at least one that they know of" in response to whether there'd be romances with NPCs other than advisors/companions. That doesn't mean it's one of the males. I'm not sure it's even one of the official 8 count.

Oh, I meant, we have 8 romances, so It remains three places. You think it's Varric ( straight ) and Iron Bull ( BI ), then the last spot couldn't be for Solas, since we have necessarily one LI that isn't a companion or an advisor.

There's also the fact that if you want to play the archer with Varric, you can't choose his weapon, I mean something else than Bianca.  (  maybe he won't forget her that easily. )

Wrong. You CAN choose his weapon, love. You can't change from Bianca to another bow, but you can give him daggers :)
