So, I'm ok with race-gating if it's not massive... but of all the options, I hope it's not for IB, and not because I don't want him as an LI, but because, honestly, the "breaking sexual partners" it's the silliest possible reason they could have come up with, IMO. I much rather woudl have had a simple "not interested"

My only guess is that she's been shown recently in the EU, whereas Dagna hasn't been seen since Origins.  I think that's extremely flimsy at best.

I'm guessing NPC romances outside the companions/advisors will be flings similar to DA:O and we probably don't even know the names or roles of these individuals at this time.

Well, the developers also said the player won't become a ruler, right? So that would likely be a factor prohibiting a romance with the ruler of a kingdom (or one vying for control in the middle of a civil war).

To play a little bit of devil's advocate here, that doesn't preclude a fling with her.

I've been asking for a villain romance for about... 5 games now.

 

It's something I've been hoping for, too. We haven't heard much about any prominent villains or antagonists for this game yet, have we? I remember back when DA2 was in development we got some info about Meredith.

 

I mean of course some of the people we've already seen could end up turning out that way through a surprise betrayal (or just a gradual falling out based on choices you make). And Morrigan could potentially be some kind of antagonist I suppose... Lol I'm hoping there's a character like Kai Leng - someone just as attractive but maybe more of a neutrally aligned character, less outright evil - running around, foiling the Inquisition for his own reasons and flirting with the Inquisitor every time he shows up.

My fear is that any relationship with Bull will, indeed, be non-committal.  It'd suck but I can't say it wouldn't fit what we know of him.

I've seen a few posters count "flings" as a romance.  I personally do not.

I've seen people count Javik as a romance due to a possible one night stand in Citadel.  He's cool and all but...ew.

I honestly doubt people are going to guess who the NPCs are that you have a romance, or fling, or whatever with. It's probably someone we don't know about, like you probably wouldn't have guessed who the randoms would be in DA:O. We probably just have no idea who they are are right now.

I doubt Varrics gonna be romanceable and I really doubt Bulls qunari restricted only. His profile says he'll jump into bed with anyone he's reasonably sure he wont break. I don't think theres Vashot lining up to have sex with a qunari so if he's as horny (hah) as he sounds he wouldn't limit himself to just qunari. I think the only people getting race gatted out of his romance are elves.

Well, they said that you can talk to your followers at camp and there have been trailer clips shown of Leliana walking around your camp. So... chances are... maybe the advisers follow you into the field?

 

They also said that while the advisers won't be out and about with you that they still had banter. Implies that they're not static and will interact with the others... Of course, that is my interpretation.

I agree. I have a feeling that Varric and/or Solas might not be romancable... but that could just be me wanting a Blackwall romance and I am projecting.

See the OP about race gating.  Iron Bull's blurb doesn't mean that's he is not race gated, it probably means he's just bisexual.  It's not that he'll "break" a dwarven character, it's more that the animation is very likely too tricky to pull off intimate moments.  

 

Also, there is no reason to hold onto any major doubt at this point that Varric is unavailable as a LI.  A few of the devs (I think DG was one of them) said that they realized after DA2 came out that they could have made Varric a LI since they were only dealing with a static model with Hawke (human.)  Between that and then the race-gating announcement today, I think we'll finally see an end to Bianca-sexuality.  Which is a little creepy and has gone on more than long enough.

 

Edit: Before anyone mentions that Varric makes a remark suggesting he's not into humans, may I remind you that this happens only with a Merrill romance, and Varric might have said that because she was standing right there next to Hawke.   Varric might have said that to spare Merrill's feelings.

Solas will surely be a romance option, it just makes sense for overall massively. He's an elf, he can be available for both genders, he's one the most reasonably acceptable and he's an apostate... if your character is going to support mages then he might be your best pick. Solas will be a romance character, that I'm sure of. Iron Bull, Varric and Vivienne are all up in the air at the moment.

If you asked me who the most popular characters were, I'd say Cullen, Cassandra, and Varric.

Cullen has never been a companion yet his thread is the largest in the forums. I'm kind of shocked they made him straight.

 

I kinda knew he was going to be straight because in DA:O he only had a crush on the female mage.
