I'm not sure they can publish any chart because well it's the marketing guys who decide .

We had a lot of information during E3 , they need to keep the hype up and growing until the release date.

"To the Void with that" :P

I like to imagine they have The Chart framed somewhere, roped off with mood-lighting.

Somebody needs to plan a Leverage-style heist  I vote we replace it with a selection of fanart. An even trade :)

+1 to see the chart!

Hell, I don't even care if they blank out the names of the characters. I just want to know if I'm getting the number of options I'd like for my chosen race/gender/sexuality combo (at least 1) instead of the number of options I fear (0).

I know just the piece I would nominate too. It's got Blackwall and Iron Bull sharing an.....intimate moment.

to be honest having set preferences appealing too me it gives the characters more depth and makes them more believable . I welcome this in DA:O i played a female elf that went with lelania, but i really wanted to know what morrigans romance was like so i created a male cousland and discovered my favourite back story. creating limitations on characters encourages people to broaden their own horizons.

This is true.

I used to self-insert my character into BioWare games so I wouldn't romance anyone in ME1 and DA:O, except for one relatively forced fling with Zevran who honestly wasn't my type (sure he had some redeeming qualities but ... meh). So then when I played ME2, I loved the paragon interactions with Jack and I ended up romancing her and it felt so good when she broke down and let loose. It was a really satisfying playthrough.

So eventually, when I roleplayed more, I ended up romancing Morrigan on my personal canon DA:O and unhardened Leliana in my second favorite playthrough. Playing as a woman, I romanced Alistair and with DahliaLynn's mods it became my third favorite. So I literally did not have a single gay romance arc in DA:O haha

But honestly when there is that one gay option that REALLY captivates me, I just can't see myself with anyone else and roleplaying becomes HARD.

In ME3, I honestly could not romance anyone but Kaidan as a gay male shepard. Seriously I even restarted the whole trilogy to experience it again because it was that gratifying.

I have yet to romance Steve, but I really should.

Now that DA:I is supposedly gonna have two or even three options for a m/m relationship, I'm not sure how I'll ever roleplay a straight or female character lol

Although Alix Wilton has my favorite female voice ever in video games so I'm DEFINITELY gonna roll a female character. I have to... I hope I do... I really want to...

Help...

I think that this is my issue with it right now.  If they just said nothing about romances, I would be fine.  But instead, they make statements like there will be more romances than any other DA game, getting everyone's hopes up for having multiple romance options.  Then they follow it up with the announcement that there will be race-gating, suggesting that some people will have less options.  It's the half information that they are releasing that's frustrating me.  They have the answers, but are only releasing bits and pieces and it's causing distress for some players.  It would cost them nothing to release the information and would alleviate many players' concerns.  It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

They haven't announced any plot or character information except the bare minimum, though. Why should romance paths be an exception? We've seen things from a new resource mechanic (focus) to Sera's apparent death at E3, with nothing but "wait and see in the game yourself". In fact they seem to be under mandate not to talk about plot or in-game character stuff at all, outside of the bare basics.

As for players being "distressed"... I'm not going to jump on Biowares throat for that. If someone is honestly so upset by romance options in a Bioware game being impacted by race that it is distressing them to that extent then they need to look at the bigger picture and accept that however much they care about it it is just a very small aspect of a single computer game.

I can see why BioWare doesn't feel giving equal options to people who want to play dwarves or qunari or elves (or humans, for that matter) is as important as giving options to women and gay/lesbian players. And obviously there is not the same real world equality issue here.

But. Well.

I have never been able to play a human female protagonist who is remotely the same shape as me in any video game. I've never even seen one, and I don't really expect to given what video game protagonists and women in the media generally look like. While I may be a foot too tall to be a Dragon Age dwarf, part of the appeal of playing them is getting to build a hero who's short and curvy and solid just like me.

So when people talk about race-gating, I can't help hearing 'sorry, dwarves aren't attractive enough to go on this ride. Who'd want to romance a woman who looks like that?' And that makes me feel sad.

Just as long as it isn't that yummy Dorian picture. They'd be too busy staring at it to actually finish the game

I will love the dwarves enough for everybody.

But I'm tempering my expectations when it comes to my lady dwarf Inquisitor's chances at getting lucky.  I don't think it's negativity or pessimism to realize that it's unlikely that the number of romances across all genders AND races will be even or "fair".  I'll just be happy if the ones she gets are ones I'll enjoy.  Fewer options AND only getting doomed or angsty romances would leave my dwarf lady very grumpy.

They are under no obligation to do so. The same way that I am under no obligation to pre-order. However, it's good business practice to recognize the concerns of devoted customers and make efforts to make them happier. Again, they lose nothing by sharing this information but their customers gain by receiving it. I even like the idea of just releasing information about numbers (without names) for each race/gender combo. Just something to let me know that I am going to have more than one romance option for my characters.

I hope they don't, put such a great value on one feature, I mean. Romance is pretty important in these games, it's understandable, but I doubt the majority of gamers is going to spend over 50 h drooling over a NPC they want to bang. And deciding upon race/class/gender only to be able to romance some specific NPC seems a bit excessive. I mean: really? really?

I wonder what would happen if I jumped on a guy IRL and demanded him to be straight.

Didn't expect every romance to be available to everyone. It would be nice but it just didn't strike me as feasible at this time. Maybe with another title. I feel for those that might not get what they'd hope for but c'est la vie.

Exactly.

Short descriptions of the characters, including their sexual orientation, would not harm the mystery of the game and in fact would make it more appealing for some. After all, your character is going to potentially be spending every moment with these 12 characters throughout the entire game.

It's not like we're asking for story or plot spoilers. Hell the character interviews they have released have been great, but I wish they'd release ones we have relatively little info on.

Real life =\= fantasy game.

Also, why does it matter to anyone how someone else plays their game. If I want to plan my playthroughs around which LI I am interested in, how does it effect anyone else?

Well, I think with the race restrictions Varric's chances to be a LI (in my perspective) increased. I'd worry more of straigh male and lesbian dwarves/qunari, though Gaider's post gives me hope on this regard.

daveliam has the right of it, I think, when it comes to romances. They haven't announced the bare minimum of romance information, they've released weird scattershot bits of information with little to no context.

With minimal information (i.e. there will be romance and there will be more than you've seen before in a DA game) you get this:

"Oh wow, I can't wait to find out who I'm going to be able to romance!"

Right now we have this:

"Oh wow, Cullen and Cassandra and romanceable! So now I know I've got the option to....wait, no, they've got specific orientations this time round. Can I romance them? Oh okay, I don't know yet. Oh, there's Sera, and she's confirmed! AWESOME. I'm playing a girl so now I know there's at least one op- oh, they're restricting by race? Can my chosen race romance her? Is she even race restricted? Hmm."

That's confusing and frustating. Ideally I'd like us to all be able to skip to the bit where we all know we have at least one option available to us, and possibly who that is - enough to know we can start the game and not wonder if we'll have to restart as another race to get an available option for our chosen orientation. Wondering idly about the romances when we know nothing is fun. Vaguely planning what you intend to do once you get into the game is fun. Having companion LI status revealed and then having it teased that you won't get to romance them anyway because of undisclosed restrictions is not fun.
