I'll be good cop, you be bad cop.

Wait, I thought it was bad cop, worse cop ala Tango and Cash.

Maria, you seem wonderfully nuts, so you are Kurt Russell (Cash) in this case.

Nocte, you are a very funny and dry Sly Stalone here. (Tango)

Now go!

But things have been really good so far. I'm just afraid I jinxed that and then things could possibly go... horribly... wrong...

<hugs> How do you think it could go horribly wrong at this point?  Oh, if they continued to add hetero romances?

I'm not going to adjust my expectations or pretend to be happy if the options aren't equally distributed. I'll be disappointed and I'll let it be known that I am. I'm not just going to accept that I'll always get less.

It's hard for me to believe that Bioware would go backwards with regard to equal options regardless of orientation. So yeah, I'd be pretty disappointed. Not completely surprised, but definitely disappointed.

Please, Bioware, don't give in to the "realism" argument! If I, as the player, am running the Inquisition, it wouldn't be unrealistic at ALL for my core team to be largely some shade of LGBT.

For me, he looks better than IB or Blackwall, also his is more popular than two others.

I don't know about that. Iron Bull has a pretty impressive following of both guys AND gals.

Well, I'm placing a lot of trust in David Gaider, and you know much he savours the sweet, sweet cries of anguish of those who enjoy his work. I say that with admiration, though, but with a bit of hope that Dorian's story and relationship with the Inquisitor won't be so tragic...

But that's a huge ask considering this is an RPG and there's this thing called choice, so I can wave it off to a point.

My expectations with the games industry in general are pretty low to begin with (to put it very mildly), so while everything seems like it could go well, it also sounds too good to be true. I tend to retain a sense of skepticism so that after the potential disappointment with getting more prominent representation of characters who identify as non-heterosexual hits me, it won't hit me so bad. (Now, this is just in general as well, not just Bioware)

But things have been really good so far. I'm just afraid I jinxed that and then things could possibly go... horribly... wrong...

Yes, just... this. Everything you said, haha. These are the defense mechanisms that we, as LGBT gamers, tend to devise as force of habit.

It's just hard not to let my guard down and be perhaps overly excited by this particular game. Trying really hard not to let myself get TOO excited. (Not doing a very good job of it, though)

One thing I can promise you: They didn't give into the Realism™ argument as a reason for exclusion nor are they going to.  We have our first beautiful black human lady as a companion, in an industry were that is just utterly lacking.  We've got three non hetero characters confirmed as romances.  Two of which are confirmed gay and lesbian orientations, which are firsts for BioWare.

Plus, I've done the math: There is only 4 possible ladies to romance  (Cass, Sera, Josie and Vivienne,) 5 if you we're counting the non companion/non adviser romance. (I suspect Dagna.)  One of which is confirmed a lesbian,  and the other is straight so at least 3-4 for men. (again, counting Dagna in this).

There is five men (Dorian, Varric, Iron Bull, Solas, Cullen) among the male cast that could be available as LIs (not assuming they all are, but it's a possibility.)  One of which is a confirmed gay man and the other is straight.  So, ladies could end up with at least 4 as well.

Gay men could end up with 3 options (IB, Solas and Dorian,) and lesbians could have 3-4 (Sera, Josie, Vivi, and going with the Dagna theory.)

I seriously doubt they'll make another gay or lesbian exclusive LI again for this particular game.

I'm not saying this has any basis in reality, but it is something I've noticed over the last few weeks.

I made that conclusion because while IB and Blackwall have one thread per character with 100+ pages, while Solas have two threads, first one (closed for now) with 300+ pages and second one already have 100+ pages. Yeas it is far from Cullen thread, but still, he seems popular.

I can't blame you. I'm positively pissing myself in anticipation for this game because it feels like it'll break in a lot of "firsts" for me as a gamer. But at the same time, well... you know how it is with the games industry: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

But it's Bioware, and if anything, they're listening and trying to make things more innovative and inclusive. We're just... very cautious...

It's been confirmed that she's going to be in the game recently.  It was also confirmed yesterday that there will be a romance with someone that isn't a party member or an adviser.  So my theory is based off of that.

I don't think it is fine- she is gnome. And tey won't give us one.

No, she's a dwarf.  Gnomes, as far as the lore has shown us, don't appear to exist in Thedas.  She is the same race as Varric.

Edit: Minor language barrier confusion, thanks Ashe.   :)

It's just a theory, you're free to disagree or just ignore it.  I can respect your opinion (and I'm not exactly hopeful either,) but you can't speak in absolutes.  We just don't know enough yet.

I think you have a language barrier. Dwarfs are gnomes in some languages (French, Russian). Not that I disagree with you about other things. :)

Not sure this has been asked/answered, but will the Inquisitor be able to flirt with anyone and then be turned down or accepted as opposed to magically not being able to flirt with some of them because of gender or race gating?

Blackwall looks like Mentor type like Wynne.

You say that like no mentor and mentee ever ended up in bed together.

I know that I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I think it's looking pretty likely that gay guys will get three options this time.  We know Dorian for sure.  And, unless they did two straight exclusive guys - Cullen and one companion, I think that we are likely to get an ungated bisexual guy and a gated bisexual guy.  So, depending on race, there will be two to three options for us.  Which is really almost too good to be true.  I'm still adjusting to getting two options.  I don't know what I'll do with myself if I get a third one!

Thought I'd repost my previous analysis based on the 2 / 4 / 2 ratio, thoughts?

Female outside LI: Cullen, Cass / Josephine, <female outsider>, Solas, IB / Dorian, Sera.
Male outside LI: Cullen, Cass / Josephine, Vivienne, ?= Solas or IB, <male outsider> / Dorian, Sera

This was brought up in the Cullen thread, but I thought I'd throw it out over here since it's definitely something worth discussing.

We're heading to Redcliffe. What's the chances of Teagan being a/the non-advisor/non-companion LI? What's the likelihood of there being two non-advisor/non-companion LI's (we really need a better term for this)?

That would be my bet, I think that there's an outsider, because they ran out of characters in the core team, which is likely to concern the female cast.

I still don't know what to make of these secondary NPC romances. I wish we could get better confirmation on whether they're part of the 8 LIs or just flings. We've gotten so much information and reassurance that the advisors will be different than NPC romances we've seen in the past. This new information is really confusing.

Plus, I got the impression that the Warden PC was supposed to be on the younger side (based upon being called "kid" and "pup" and such,) and Wynne was far older.  Whereas the median age of the Quizzy is supposed to be 20-40 years old.  Especially for players that are within that age range (or even past it!) Blackwall could be exactly what they want.

Yeah, SWTOR practically shoved that dynamic down the player's throat.  In the Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, and Sith Inquisitor stories, if you are a male, your female apprentice is your LI.  Possibly Sith Warrior too, but I'm not sure if Jaessa is an apprentice or equal.  Conversely, there are only two male "force user" companions and only one of them is an "apprentice" and he's, of course, not a romance option for a female PC.  Gender dynamics at work.....!  Boo.

Jaessa is an apprentice, a love interest, and the worst voice acting I've ever encountered in a BioWare game.

Jaesa is an apprentice, both as a Jedi and as a Sith.  And I wanted her as a LI for my lady Sith Warrior, but it wasn't meant to be.

So it's a student/teacher relationship.
