Gender imbalance, and a lack of same-sex options. It does sound like the old days of Baldur's Gate.

Dude this was happening up until Dragon Age: Origins came out. ME1 even does it. Having the second male LI as bi-sexual was a good step up, but it always felt like a consolation prize.

Yea; ever since Blackwall first showed up in concept art, greying hair and all, I've seen people dismiss him as an LI option because of his age and I've been skeptical of that reasoning; based on what I've witnessed, I don't think the desire for older men is quite as niche as some people on these forums believe it is.

I've mentioned it before, but I can't imagine a Dragon Age game without a Chee-brand romance in it.  Since Leliana is not a romance option this time around, it only leaves Blackwall as main characters she's writing this time around.  Not a substantial reason to believe Blackwall is an LI, of course, but it is enough to make me cautiously optimistic.

True. At least Jade Empire's only male option was also bisexual, though it was well-hidden.

My grandfather was in his late seventies when he died, and didn't have a single strand of grey hair on his head.

My father, on the other hand, was thirty when he started going grey.

Some people start greying before they even reach 25. It's all programmed by genetics. (Same with balding! curse you, dad)

That would be my bet, I think that there's an outsider, because they ran out of characters in the core team, which is likely to concern the female cast.

Cassandra's long lost twin lesbian warrior. I can always dream. *Sigh* why do I always fall for the straight girl.

Didn't the survey theory kinda get debunked when Cass and Cullen got confirmed straight?

Debunked for orientation, five of the six none-inquisitor character images have been confirmed has LI. Only Blackwall is left and in yesterday Raptr chat when asked if Blackwall was going to be romanceable, the answer was Soon  and not "I can't answer" like they did for Solas, Varric and I believe Vivienne.

I expect him to be the male bisexual LI and they will reveal it this weekend  (or a bit before that).

You can't deny that Blackwall is a cheerful person. You need that ray of light and hope in surrounding darkness, doom and gloom.

I'll be disappointed if Blackwall and IB are the bi male options. Like, I'm not going to be a baby about it. It's totally fair. They're just not to my personal taste. But, yeah, I'll be super disappointed.

I'm not sure if anyone else has thought about this, but what if one of the two race gated LIs is actually Cullen? And that he couldn't be romanced by human Inquisitor because they are related by blood in some way?

The thought occurred to me since David Gaider once said very teasingly something along the lines "So that's Cullen's full/last name". To me it sounds like there was something surprising in his last name - and that it was important enough to be tweeted about. At first I thought that he might be King Maric and Fiona's son but yesterday it was confirmed that Alistair is their son so that trashed it.

Another reason why I considered this was because yesterday in the Q/A one of the developers said that two of the romances would be race restricted because of "story reasons" - not personal race preference reasons. The devs might just have said story reasons just because no better wording occurred to them atm but yeah.

I know this doesn't sound very solid speculation but wanted to say it anyway.

My only reservation about Blackwall as a LI is not his age but the whole Calling business. He should be pretty close to it since he was already a senior warden during the last Blight.

I could go for him in a "tragic" playthrough, however, if there is an option for the Inquisitor to sacrifice himself/herself at the end.

Ooh.. I do like this theory.

It's different, and a legitimate reason!

If the amnesia is for the Inquisitor's whole life story apart from their name or whatever, that would be great.

Or perhaps Cullen was raised by the Chantry from a young age and that's why they don't instantly recognise each other.

I know the possibility of it is slim, but I do like it!

You know, I kind of hope Dagna isn't the mystery option... because if she was, all three LIs available to women would have a somewhat similar temperament, and that'd leave people like my girlfriend out in the cold.

Huh, I figured that Sera and Josephine would be pretty much opposites in temperament, one being rash and impulsive while the other is calm and calculated. What kind of temperament are you talking about?

Now, that would be interesting. Would definitely be a bold move on Bioware's part.

Don't think it'll happen, but it's interesting.

There's nothing to say she'd be available to female PC's even if she was.

Dagna's the first circle-sexual LI.

Semi-confirmed rumor.

That's if you wanna call Ashara a romance, ugh

What's wrong with Ashara?

One straight and one gay companion for each gender is one thing, but Bioware actually destroying romance equality when they had it in the last game would be insane.

That would be a very, very interesting idea for a race-gate. Mind you, Cullen is very popular and human is the most popular race so... That would be a heck of a kick to the gut for female human players.

I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of both Iron Bull and Blackwall not only being LIs, but being available to male Inquisitors as well.

LI-wise, that's exactly what I wanted, but never in a million years did I think it would actually happen...and now it's a legitimate possibility!

I am hoping Vivi is a romance option. That would give us 4 females romance options. Make Solas an option then you got 4 Male romance options as well. I am not going to include the romance options outside of the party as the main 8 until there is some confirmation otherwise.

Not really. Everyone has at least two options, some extra race and gender gated ones on top isn't an issue.

Some race/gender/orientation combinations will get more options than others, it's been all but confirmed.

Some racial combinations will get more. There's no indication whatsoever that any orientation ones would. It would be quite the issue.

I agree, uneven gender/sexuality distribution would definitely be an issue for me.
