I remember that article. That guy doesn't speak for me. Which is I guess is the point of DG's response too.
That's what I was getting at when I tell folks to google "Straight Male Gamer," if they have concerns that BioWare is going to ever go out of their way to cater those that have that mentality. That's all. 
I'm thinking Vivienne, The Iron Bull and Solas as the other 3 romances. Bull and Viv will be race gated IMO. Also, I think Celene and Gaspard will be flings like the Asari consort in ME1 type of romantic interaction. Like you're doing a big quest arc for either one of your choosing and at the end, you put one on the throne in Orlais and they let you have sex with them(both being bi) and then done. That's just speculation of course, but seems more likely than being actual romances.
Why do you have to put one in the throne, can you just pay them? Maybe, I should avoid sarcasm when I'm not speaking my own language, because I'm not really sure how does it turn out 
. So, I'll just say, that put that way, I find they idea kind of gross. I hope if there's something with any of them is not just like that

So... to clarify, 8 of our all of our companions/advisors are romanceable, and then there's one random character outside of this who we can flirt with? And two of these are race gated...

If that's the case, my guess would be the IB and Varric are romanceable, and that Solas is our male bisexual.

Out of 12, We know that Cole and Leliana are not romances. Out of the 10 left, 5 of them are confirmed. So 3 more... I think it's safe now to say Vivienne is in the running again then. That leaves Iron Bull, Varric, Blackwall and Solas.
Only two men may proceed... Or 3 I guess if it turns out Vivienne isn't a romance. I'd be surprised if that's the case though in this situation.
I'm not making guesses on who the last romances will be...but just so you know...in the Q&A they stated that 1 LI is a NON-Companion AND NON-Advisor who has not been revealed.
Edit: Did i miss them restating that this non-companion/advisor is just for flirting and not a full LI?

True but it would also only give them one less romance than straight gals and gay guys. It would actually work out much less skewed than it appears with a 3/5 split. Wouldn't be my preferred choice, but it's just a feeling that I got.
That would also mean that lesbian Inquisitors would get only two options as well.

Sheryl Chee confirmed that the non-advisor/companion was someone you could flirt with; the 8 are all within the advisors and companions.

To me, this pretty much dashes any hope of characters like Varric. And sure as hell means Dagna isnt an option.

I'm thinking this to be the most likely scenario. If there's to be an equal female/male romance ratio, Vivienne would have to be a romance option.

As a minority, for me, it's something that I'm forced to consider and think about on a daily basis for a variety of reasons, from mainstream media representation (or lack thereof) to the constant struggles for equality rights ongoing. My society is seen through a default POV of a (straight) male, and it's not something I can really get away from long enough for me to not think about how I'm "different" at some point during the day, since there are frequent enough reminders telling me so.
