Solas doesn't have to be race gated but they need to come up with a good reason why your Dalish would be willing to consider a non-elf partner if Solas is not a romance at all.   It was okay in DAO because you had already effectively been separated from your clan in becoming a Grey Warden.    However, in DA2 Feynriel's Mum was banished from her clan for getting pregnant by a human.   In DAO Zevran's mother seemed to lose contact with her clan (possibly banished) for having a relationship with a non Dalish elf.   I think it highly unlikely that it would be considered the actions of a true elf to have relations with anyone other than a Dalish elf - Solas would qualify having had contact with the Dalish and not been part of human culture but living out among the old ruins.     So if you role play the Dalish true to type, you will not consider a non elf romance.     We are being forced into being a Dalish so it would seem rather hard to deny us a romance if we role played them correctly.

Obviously if it turns out we come from a liberal minded Dalish clan or are already an outcast because of our non acceptable views regarding relations with other races, then the romance options will no longer be a problem and I would happily go with whoever is available.

That's up to the player, not the writer.

I agree about Vivienne possibly being too focused on herself and her mission to be interested in romance.  I also think that Blackwall is going to be able to be flirted with, but will turn down a romance because he wouldn't want to break the PC's heart when he dies.

It is strange that they'd delete those tweets,  could be interpreted as evidence that he is a romance, but it could also suggest that he is not.  The really wouldn't want to 'confirm' something that was not the case.

That would be so sweet of him and so appreciated  :)   :P

I don't think IB is "officially" confirmed, but at this point there's enough to make me think it's a very strong probably.

This is my guess as well, except swap Solas for Blackwall.

I think the same. Too many "hints". I've already accepted it

If Viv isn't a LI then that means 5 guys and 3 girls... even if Bioware said they wouldnt necessarily be fair that still seems a bit excessive...

It doesn't seem fair, but with male characters outnumbering females I can see it happening. :/

You do know Celene is a lesbian, right?  Unless you plan on rolling a female toon, in which case just ignore me.

Err... Was this stated anywhere?

I'm of the opinion that they wont do 5/3 in favor of male LIs and I think, honestly, it's not a very fair number even with gating. I think Viv will be in and she'll be race gated to avoid scandal. Iron Bull seems like he's all but certain at this point and I think he'll be our race gated male. To me, that leaves Blackwall and Solas to be our "available to all" bi male. I think it will be Solas. I'm biased, but I also think he just seems more like what we usually see from a romance and he balances well against Iron Bull, since they're two extremes.

Patrick Weeks himself, who wrote TME.  He said flat out that Celene was a lesbian (not bi, but a lesbian) and she has a relationship with another woman in the book.

General statement: I long since threw out any sense of total fairness they day they announced a 6:3 gender split for the companions.

"Story reasons" (the condition of racial restrictions) makes me think that Vivienne and Varric will be the two race-gated LIs.

Meanwhile, I think that Josephine and Iron Bull will be bisexual.

Ugh.  No offense, but could you please not refer to bisexuality as playersexuality?  It isn't the same thing.  Fenris and Merrill, due to the ambiguous nature of their sexualities (i.e they weren't confirmed bi via WoG,) could possibly be considered as such.  However, Josie and (possibly) Iron Bull are stated as bisexual.   :(

I agree with everything except for Vivienne's race-gating. If anything elves would be the one race that would be an absolute no-no for her considering both how elves are seen in Orlais and the apparent elven rebellion going on.

True, but I'd have thought that it might be something that would be considered.  There are very good reasons to imagine that elves would not be interested in romancing humans, they seem to be almost universally discriminated against.  In DAO it was actually my Dalish that were more friendly in the end, my city elves had a deep dislike from humans for obvious reasons.

But if the two race-gated companions complement each other, then in function, everyone only gets 2-3 romances, which isn't terribly excessive.

Oh, that. Yeah, you're probably right  :D

Not that I'm particularly invested in the notion. I would probably find some kind of "romance" with Briala more interesting (and satisfying on a meta level) as ridiculously preposterous as the notion is

In this case though, I think both can apply. I mean, Iron Bull is a James Bond-like guy and yet suddenly wants to settle with just Inquisitor while Josephine is hinted by Gaider to have fanatical devotion not just to the Inquisition, but the Inquisitor themselves. That fits the term playersexual pretty well in either case.

It would certainly be more fair than in ME3. Or ME in general. Or even DAO.
