I know, I was speaking of the universe in general. I don't think he was talking only of love interests for the PC.

Okay, as far as 100% confirmed, no bones about it, not ambiguous and no suspicions of being "pay for gay," (like a prostitute; Jeth could be bi, but he also could just have sex with men for the money) bisexual and gay romances, I've got the following:

Lesbian

Briala

Sera

Gay Men

<crickets>

Bisexual

Zevran

Did I miss something?

Wait, you're seriously counting that???  Wow.  I had to look up who she was.   Also, looking at her page, they don't list her as bisexual, they said that she's available to both players.

And as Fenris and Merrill both prove, that doesn't mean that she's bi as proven by WoG.  So I'd put her down as ambiguous at best.  Still though, not seeing the problem here.

So, even with her, it's 3 ambiguous, one bisexual and two lesbian elves in the entire series including the EU.

Before anyone mentions Serendipity, she's a drag queen according to WoG and never has her sexuality stated either.

Dorian is a gay man.

Not an elf, which is what theonlybob was getting at.

Iona honestly slipped my mind too.

Merrill was stated as ambiguous by the devs, just like Fenris.  I'll add her onto the list though.

She could be romanced by a male or female Hawke. She's either bysexual or pansexual, regardless of what the devs say.

So, if we take out the EU and go just by player love interests as theonlybob originally pointed out (so no flings, no hookers,) I count two elves in the entire series that have been 100% confirmed as non-hetero: Zevran and Sera.  Two others that have been player love interests have been stated as ambiguous without a set sexuality.

That's a far cry from 5-6 elven love interests.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm going with WoG here.  Word of God states her and Fenris are both ambiguous with their sexuality.  Whether or not you choose to agree is up to you, but for this debate, I'm sticking to WoG.

I swear there was a developer comment saying that all of Dragon Age 2's LI's were bisexual, so I don't get what all of this "ambiguous" stuff is.

Besides, "ambiguous" isn't a sexual orientation.

The point I'm trying to make is that I'd like a little variety it seems, at least to me, that a pattern is forming.

I can't see Fenris as playersexual in a game where he can romance a dude and hook up with Isabela, at the least. As far as I've always seen it, Merrill is the only one that really stays ambiguous in all playthroughs. But they did a better job hiding Fenris and Anders' bisexuality from female Hawkes, which.. wasn't great.

No, it isn't a sexual orientation.  That's the point; the devs have stated that they don't have a defined sexuality set.  Give me a few and I'll find the source.

2 non-straight elves between two games is a pattern?

Word of God only goes so far. If I see a character drop a penny and it falls to the floor, word of god isn't going to convince me it actually flew up to the ceiling.

If I see a duck walking one day and flying the next, it isn't ambiguous as to whether the duck can only walk or only fly.

I guess it comes down to how you count it but at the end of the day he would still be the fifth elven companion available to anyone or a same sex PC where as there have only been 3 humans and no dwarves. I want something different.

I couldn't find the link to the old forums (still looking) but he does talk about it here and mentions that BioWare at no point stated that Merrill and Fenris were bi, and that the players were assuming that:

I wonder if Dagna could be the non-adviser non-companion romance, she could have really matured in the 10 years.

I still hate the way Fenris and Merrill's sexualities were handled, both inside and outside the game.

Thank god that awful system died a death along with Dragon Age 2, where it belongs.

So wait...3 bisexual elven LIs, two of which have been stated by Word of God as having no clearly defined sexuality, is a pattern that should be avoided?

If Solas makes it in as bi, that's 4 total to date.  Between three games.  Your math is still wrong.

I doubt they'll give us a second straight male romance (already confirmed Cullen). I think (hope) that there will only be one straight and one gay option for each gender. I'd guess that any other LIs will be bisexual, since they want to give people of all orientations options.

That might actually be a pretty good guess. Cass & Cullen straight, Sera & Dorian gay and the rest bisexual to indeed give people more options. Josephine is the only bi option revealed so far, stands to reason there will at least be another bi male. If the 3 remaining romances are all companions (assuming the "not a companion and not an advisor" one is just flirting and not a full romance), then that means we could end up with 8 out of 9 companions who are a romance option. That would be a lot tbh.

But who will it be, who....I check this thread every day for news, tis like an addiction  I should care about other stuff but no...

Tear me apart, here are my new Suspicions about the unannounced LI's, since ALL full blown LIs are confirmed by Sheryl Chee to be from the Flock of Advisors and Companions:

Non-gated, bisexual Male: Iron Bull.

Yes, I know he is said not to hop into Bed with someone he could break, but I think at some Point the Inquisitor will definitely qualify as such, no matter of Race.

Gated bisexual Male: Varric.

He said he wasn't into Humans and DwarfxQunari is said to be difficult to animate, so he would be available to Dwarves and Elves.

Gated bisexual Female: Vivienne.

I can't see her as a Power Player being into Elves at all. She also wears a horned Hat, which I take as Evidence of her Affinity to Qunari. Thus, she will be available to Humans and Qunari.

This Line-Up would also support the Statement that some may have more Options than others:

Gay Male Humans and Qunari would "only" have Iron Bull and Dorian.

Lesbian Female Elves and Dwarves would "only" have Sera and Josephine.

Everyone else would have three Options.

Here the Confirmation for other lazy People:

2 are already advisors, so we could only have 6 companions as LIs, not the full 8.

You're right ups. It's getting too confusing. So 3 companions are a LI, 2 advisors and then 3 more tba. So that would mean 6 out 9, yeah.

This is hurting my brain like math used to.

I think your math is off.  We know that there are 8 romances and 5 of them are confirmed.  But there are only 3 confirmed companion romances, so there will be, at most 6 companion romances.  So it's 6 out of 9 companions, which is still a fair amount.

ETA:  Too slow.  Got distracted by "Escape from the Planet of the Apes".  What a crappy and awesome movie.

I loved the da2 approach and hate the current one. Hope this this one dies a death and they return to Da2 approach in future personally.
