May I ask a question? If Varric is a LI, how would you guys react? Please don't dismiss this as a case of "It can't happen," because I want your honest opinion about the idea.
I know if he wasn't, I'd be happy to have my best bud in Thedas back and play the game to see if anyone else trips my trigger.
I'd be happy for everyone who wanted Varric, but I'm not interested in him at all.
If there isn't, there will be shortly now that someone's said it. It wouldn't be me writing it though; I've never written fan fiction in my life outside of some made up party banter.
So Varric would be the DA equivalent of the Chevalier d'Eon?

Given the reliability(rather, lack-thereof) of fade projections, for all we know, the "real" Bianca was Varric's alter ego when he was experimenting with crossdressing.
I've been watching the E3 demo and Sera's voice is just lovely.

I think her accent is just awful. It'll be difficult for me to understand her without subtitles. So, bad news for me again. I just can't seem to catch a break with this game.

Err... I'm not even a native English speaker, and I can get her just fine. Maybe I've been subjected to British (?) accents much more often?

I'm torn about Varric. On the one hand, it'd be cool to finally experience a dwarf romance (with the best possible dwarf, imo), but on the other hand, I really enjoyed playing his BFF, and having him treat me in a close, brotherly way. I imagine Varric is the kind of guy my PC might have a friendly, casual fling with, but never seriously pursue a romantic relationship, and still remain friends even after some wild night.
I'm really hoping for either Solas or Blackwall as the bisexual male, though. I'd be happy with either one.

If it helps at all, BioWare has done friendship-turned-romance before, like with Mass Effect. I have played the games twice now, once as a FemShep with Liara, once with Garrus. The Garrus friendship didn't suffer or turn creepy even as a romance; it was still as a good as before, only with a little bit of a bonus. I've heard the same about the Tali romance (the other friendship-turned-romance.)
I know it's a different team, but I really it hope it sets your mind at ease.

Not exactly the same thing. Hawke and the Inquisitor are not the same person. Shepard is the protagonist in both ME1 and ME2.
I know it's not, but I do trust BioWare to handle both the friendship and (potential) romance with Varric. I don't think one or the other is going to suffer because he's (again, potentially) available as a LI. Shoot, I can't think of a case where the friendship arc was completely ruined by the romance arc for me. YMMV of course.
I loved the da2 approach and hate the current one. Hope this this one dies a death and they return to Da2 approach in future personally.
If it doesn't do well...they might change it back but if its successful they likely will leave it and fine tune it

If Varric IS a romance, I hope he's bisexual though. I know he's never shown any evidence of it, but I'd be pretty sad if he was made a LI, but unavailable to my gay PC.
I'm still holding onto the hope that there is only one straight/gay LI of each gender, and the rest of the LIs are bisexual. It would suck for a LI to be both race AND gender-gated. *crossing fingers hard*

The Tali romance I found relatively creepy. I say relatively creepy, because there were other romances in ME that were way more creepy, so it isn't right to use a superlative with it.
I don't care much for Varric as LI since I kind of like the story implications with the real Bianca. He is a cool character though and I'd like him as a friend.
I have to say I haven't done anything else today but cleaned my apartment and read through this thread and kept an eye on twitter in case of some nice revelations. It is 5 AM here (Finland) and I haven't yet gone to sleep for the night (night??). Maybe I should consider.
I don't know what I want out of the LIs. As much as I want Varric as a LI I almost feel like he's...too likeable to be a LI, if that makes any sense. Iron Bull I want because he's qunari, and I'll be honest, that's it.
But every time they deny someone, I feel really disappointed. I hear a rumor about Vivienne, Varric, Blackwall, Iron Bull, doesn't matter...I'm super disappointed.
After flipping through some of the discussions, though, and elven genetics got brought up, I do wonder if maybe we've been looking at it wrong. Maybe our Dalish inquisitor doesn't want to romance (straight) non-elves because s/he's afraid they'll have a non-elven pregnancy.
But that should be up to my inquisitor. Maybe MY inquisitor thinks their species is on its way out and they're better off preserving their genetics in dwarf form.

The only romance that I've googled so far that seemed outright creepy in ME (not counting Ms. Non Standard Game Over herself, Morinth) is Jacob's.

Honestly, when I think about it more, I kind of hope Blackwall will be chosen for a bi male LI over Varric, if not Solas. I hope nobody gets angry about this, but the more I think about it, the more it just seems like he would seem overwhelmingly like a "m/m afterthought" romance. Varric has his thing with Bianca, obviously, but he also talks about women often and, even though he said he wasn't into humans, I seem to remember people mentioning him calling female Hawke "beautiful", while he says nothing like that about males. I think they would either have to change his characterization to be more openly into guys, or they'd end up with another Zevran type situation where there character seems obviously designed as a f/m romance primarily.
So, honestly, I don't feel good about Varric as one of the bi males. I feel like it would be better to choose a character with a blank slate that they could tailor equally to both sides. I'm sure there are other guys that are into Varric that aren't bothered by this, but it does kind of bother me.
