...I think I'm one of the few, outside of Maria and some others, that don't think "baby's arm" when it comes to Iron Bull.  I've seen too many pictures of both greater apes and of tall/large men to know that isn't always true.

IB isn't human he's qunari :V

Well, Qunari are really unique, so who knows what their anatomy is down there. Maybe it's a whole mass of angry tentacles. And they all have horns.

So the Qunari are hentai monsters? Yum.

PCs tend to be held to a higher standard.  And ours DID just walk out of the thedasian equivalent of a nuclear blast...

Which is why the 'I may break you' excuse rings a little hollow to me, if he is a race gated LI I really hope that is not the reason they go with.

I take "I could break you" as:

"The cinematic team couldn't get the size of your race and mine animating correctly for the intimate moments, so we can't bang.  It's not you, it's the game I'd break."

I know I know I just think they should come up with a better reason is all since that one seems a tad weak to me :P

Well to be fair there would be a hilarious size difference between IB and dwarves

And?  That doesn't mean much to me.

I take it you watch a lot of hentai? (oh google spell check, I had to add sexualities to your dictionary, but hentai is able to be spell checked.)

Wait...

Why am I discussing Iron Bull's d*ck size with the BSN?   Don't answer that, I'm more asking myself at the moment.

While y'all punctured it, it's what I liked about the notion of Solas being afraid of studding non-elven children.  It's a real concern elves must ask themselves when in a relationship with non-elves.  Addressing it in-game could be fun, given a skilled writer.

Unlikely, given PC Vashoth.

I know that was briefly mentioned with Merrill more like hinted but it was dropped pretty quickly, with a character that made sense and if it was handled well it could be an interesting angle but I don't see it working with the current crop of elves we have this time around.

(No No Merrill debates I will break out the squirt bottle if anyone tries it)

I'm just joking. lol

I think IB will be gated because his model is probably awkward to work with. I'm expecting less substantial reasons for gating than I think some people are.

When Cameron said 2 race-gated, he said it was for "story reasons".

I just want a good reason for it in game I already know it out of game. Though I would laugh if Iron Bull turned down my dwarf and said something along the lines of "I like you half pint I do but the animators couldn't handle us. Sorry pal."

I've also heard it was for technical reasons.  Looking for a source now.  Otherwise, it's just the usual game of Telephone that happens on the forums.

Iron Bull won't romance a non-qunari because of his complicated relationship with the Qun and Vivienne won't romance a qunari because they think they can rock horns better than she can.

Very possibly technical reasons excused with story reasons.

IB sounds too promiscuous to limit himself to the occasional Vashoth, so I'm thinking NO.

I feel silly now.  It's in the OP:

So knowing this, we can say "we think we can put about X zots towards content for the romance interests."  In part of determining how much total work we can allocate, we'll look at how efficient the writing team can be at creating words (and dealing with iteration based upon rewrites that will happen based on feedback from the team and so forth).  We'll also look at how quickly the cinematics team can be at creating scenes.  Now, while I am (unfortunately) not as equipped to deal with the challenges the writers have had (I did a bit of support work, but usually through a fellow QA that worked more closely with them directly), I was working very closely with the programming team that was building and supporting the tools for the cinematics guys.

Part of the challenge is that with new technology, at the start we have to make estimates on the efficiency of cinematics because they're literally not able to create the content to shippable quality early in the project.  So there's risks with these estimates (we try to be conservative), and there could be unexpected things that pop up (this affects the writers and their tools as well).  Cinematics (and to some extent writing) are a significant dependency on other things such as character races, because content that shows well for a human may not work as well for a qunari.

So when the writers come up and say "we think this person would make an interesting romance arc," we'll have to look at how that impacts the cinematics work schedule.  Lets assume we started with the realization we would need at least 4 LIs (since the team values providing choice, and we can do that with 4 characters).  But writing goes "We have some interesting ideas for romances, and we also think there's value added in representation."  Cinematics lets them know if they can handle this (like with, for example, a year long time extension)  But in the throes of writing, some other characters come along and it's "I think this person would make a really interesting romance arc actually."  Cinematics is consulted and goes "Hmmmm, this could be challenging...."  So now we can look at it and go "Okay Cinematics is at capacity, but writing can make this work.  Can we move shift around their existing work to make this work?"  Sometimes it's "yeah, we can make this work actually."  Or maybe it's "we only have the capacity to do half of the scenes."  Then we can look at the cost of the scenes specifically and see what we can do with that.  Maybe it means we take some scheduled scenes from other romances and allocate them here instead."

So, story in Cameron's case could just mean story cinematics.  It doesn't have to be an in-game reason.  I think we're reading too much into the use of the term story.

It would be amusing if romancing IB is gated by your CON score.

It's common to have "storyline reasons" and "practical reasons."  Why isn't the shark seen more in Jaws?  The practical reason is that the animatronic didn't work properly.  The storyline reason is that one is seeing the scene from the shark's POV.

This is what I'm assuming. I'm sure they have a story reason, but I don't doubt they'd also consider the technical side.

IB's "have sex with everybody" thing makes little sense if he's limiting himself only to other Qunari.

I think it's reasonable to expect that he will be open to qunari and humans.

The other racegated love interest doesn't need to be open to dwarves and elves, they already said that there won't necessarily be equal choices for every race.

I still like the "Human inquisitor is Cullen's brother/sister/cousin/whatever" theory to explain why Cullen would be racegated, extracted and applied to a female LI.
