Yeah if Cass was bi I'd feel Vivi was straight but as it is...

Then again if they're not going for perfectly balanced I could see it. I'd probably end up smh but I could see it. In that case I'd also see Varric being a elf/dwarf only romance and IB rounding it out.

Maybe IB's racial restrictions would be dropped in favor of Vivi and Varric's...

Huh.

Wait.. if gay females only get 2, that isn't any different than straight males. So we're in the same boat.

Or am I missing something?

edit: Oh, if Viv is straight.

I highly doubt that.

If there are 8 LIs, I do not anticipate straight men only have 2 options.

Right.

They're not going for perfectly balanced. Everyone has options, which just means everyone has access to at least 2 LIs.

Gay women - 2 LIsStraight men - 2 LIsGay men - 4 LIsStraight women - 4 LIs.

That doesn't look realistic to me. Drop a dude and add another bisexual female.

Agreed. With said bisexual female character being the non companion/advisor option.

The non companion/advisor thing isn't a romance, it doesn't count in the 8.

If Vivienne is straight, then I'd be curious how many guys are intrigued by the same things.

Pick out any guy on the street and ask them if they care about catty insults and class based behavior. Or fashion.

They'd insure her popularity more if she was bi. If straight, then she's only for a small minority of guys.

The point of Allan is that romance will never be equal, bisexual people will always have more options, those who are able to roleplay the opposite / same gender will have more options than those who can't. The only thing that Bioware can do is giving at least two options. Allan already made this point before in another topic. I remember.

I'd really wish they had Cass bi in that case but meh. Everyone will at least have as many choices as they did in DA2 that way (assuming you avoid most of the race gates) and a few will have more.

Same. It has happened before, after all.

But being on the bottom of the totem pole AGAIN (especially after having the same number of options in DA2) would sour the experience for me significantly tbh.

Edit: Was trying to quote Ryzaki but failed

I'm really hoping that Solas is an LI. I think it would be refreshing to have a brainy, nerdy, intellectual character to romance for a change, as I don't think Bioware has done a male LI like that before (I seriously liked the character of Finn too and wished that went somewhere...). I also would really rather prefer not to have all the LI options for straight females to be brawny, muscular, masculine, warrior-type guys, and I think that Solas is a refreshing alternative for those of us who aren't attracted to that kind of guy.

yes, yes, yes, so much yes... Even if I admit that personality wise Blackwall and IB seems to be really different, in some sense they're very similar... Cullen/IB/Solas seem a more balanced palette of options for straigh women

A straight Vivienne would be a super waste in terms of fandom preferences, it seems, though... I mighht be mistaken, but I've seen some straight guys showing interest, but most seem to find her fashionism and her cold, ambitious personality a turn off... In the other hand, there's lots of women that like her, an lots of guys who would love to see her with a female PC...

I know it means nothing, but it'd really be a shame

Then again, you could say something like that with any character, making them straight would obviuosly disappoint more people than making them bi... so, yes, brilliant of me anyway

I think you are letting your disappointment about Cass shape your opinion here. Just make an assessment on Vivienne herself.

smh?

If BioWare gave us two options in DA II and two options in DA:I, I'll probably be okay. I'll still long for Cassandra, but two options for a gay PC is still better than any other BioWare game save DA II.

Seriously, I think there's a good chance sylvianus is right, that he meant that people willing to play different genders and sexualities is going to have more options

As a straight player i'm hoping Viv is Bi with the likely racial gating for story reasons.

Don't want others disadvantaged anymore than i wanted my orientation disadvantaged.

I still sort of hope Vivienne isn't an LI, to be honest. I'd rather not have all female companions be romanceable.

But since shes one of the two companions where race gating actually makes sense (the other being Varric), she probably is.

Honestly as long as I have more than one choice and they're different enough from each other and not horribly done I'm fine. I'll pout a little but whatever.

This is what I'm thinking.

Yeah it wouldn't be that surprising either.

Whops, that's what I interpreted from the Q&A, which I see has been clarified, my bad.

I don't think Allan is going to hop into a thread just to say that bisexuals and people who play multiple genders will have more options than someone who only plays a lesbian. That's obvious.

He starts it by saying that 'not everyone' can expect to increase in the number of LIs.

If there are 8 LIs, I expect that straight men will see an increase in the number of LIs. If there are 8 LIs, it goes without saying that bisexual men and women will see an increase.

Who does that leave?

The non companion/advisor thing isn't a romance, it doesn't count in the 8.

That's interesting.

I wonder if that means there's a female companion we don't know about.

(...)

No, no, I meant that with all-bi system there's only 4 options, while with this system there's 6 (well 8, actually), so if you don't mind playing female or male and gay or straight you get access to 2 more LIs than what you could have had in the all-bi scenario.

Anyways, after what Gaider said, I'm not really bothered by equality between straight men and gay women. No, it's the race gating that gets my attention and the fact that the straight male option is a npc Li. I could see one more male LI. But I think Mort of Minuit is the one that I think is right with his guesses.

So either Vivienne isn't an Li, and we'll get one companion + Josephine for each gender, or she is bi.

Edit : Allan said many things about the all bi system and I totally interpreted that we would have the all bi again, it was confirmed, because of many of his statements . This isn't at all what happened as well, the total opposite. But we'll see.

Late night frustration, is my best guess.  I think a lot of people just want the romances confirmed so we can get all of our angst and/or joy out of our systems and find something else to discuss.

Am I misreading this question?  There are only 9 companions.  We know them all and it's been confirmed by devs that the ones that we know are all that there are.
