I would like for both Varric and Iron Bull to be bi romance options (and not just a fling). Who else is my male quizzy going to be able to pursue besides Dorian? (though Dorian is top priority )

I kinda don't think it's just to cut down on different animations, because then they could have just skipped a LI entirely. But if they had to gate IB, then gating someone else saves them different animations and it looks less weird to have two gated LIs instead of a single one out of eight.

I don't think it's so much that we think he will be as that we hope he will be.

 

In fact, I think he probably won't be a romance. I would just be extremely happy to be wrong about that.

I'm not actually sure what the animation issues are, tbh. Is it a problem of one be too big and the other too small, or is it a problem of making lots of different animations for each romance scene? I always assumed it was the latter. In any case, there would still be a qunari or a dwarve in the love scenes, even if the LI is a human, no?

 

There isn't any animations technical issues per see, that a fan's perception because people think its harder to make dwarves and qunari animations. It's probably not the case.

 

The OP talks about allocating resources and that mean "men/hours". When the workload is defined (this is usually before people really start to work on stuff), you have to determine how much each departments can do in the time you have and everyone will be aligned on the bottleneck (animators in this case).  If they estimate that bisexual LI takes 8 unity if times and straight/gay ones take only 4 units of times, they need to design the LIs to fit the animator units of time for romance cinematics.

 

For example, if the animators can only take 16 units of romance scenes, you have to divide the romance options to options that fits into that. This could mean different things:

4 straight LIs

or

2 bisexual LIs

or

1 bisexual and 2 straight LIs

or

1 gay, 1 straight and 1 bisexual

 

If the animator had 18 units of times, they could have added a 2 races-gated straight/gay LI or a 3-race-gated Bisexual LI to any of those above, because it would be worth 2 units of work.

 

 

I took small numbers to make it easies to count and project management is actually way more complex than that...

I think what the Varric fans have going for them that us Cullenites didn't is that they've already been burned once. So they've already tempered their expectations.

Oh, I'm sure we'll be sad. It's just that most of us have been expecting to be sad for years now. (Some of us were even sad after we found out he wasn't a DA2 romance, although personally I didn't mind when my only option was playing a human PC anyway.) I'm going to wail and rend my clothing for a while, and then I'll make my peace and look forward to the rest of the game.

Bingo.  The general reaction from the Varricmancers is that we don't expect to get Varric is a LI, at all.  We truly don't.  We talk about it, we wish for it, we come up with good reasons for it, but we are expecting to be told no.

 

We've called ourselves the underdogs of the LIs for the forums, since we know we're asking for the least played race to get a romance from a company that hasn't done a romance for that race in the 15 years of doing this content.  We also know that between Bianca, his circumstances and all other reasons, Varric doesn't have the greatest chance getting in.  Still, we love the guy and so we keep hope that we can romance what we consider one of the greatest dwarven characters that BioWare has ever done in our humble opinions.

 

We figure that if he isn't a LI, we'll all comfort each other for a few days in his fan thread, then move on with life.  Really, every Varric fan and Varricmancer I know is just thrilled to have him back.  The Varricmancers do want the romance, but we just consider it a bonus to the friendship that we know is going to be there no matter what, and also we have faith that the friendship will be written well.

That's what I think too.. but.. people want they want.

 

I think they should learn a lesson from some of the rest of us who built up expectations. Just in case. That way you'll be fine either way.

^ As a fellow Varricmancer, I'd like to say that these two statements sum up my thoughts very well. As Natashina has mentioned before, were the underdogs of the fandom and though we try to remain optimistic...I think we've all prepared for the worst. We have hope that Varric will end up like Garrus, in the respect of best-friend turned lover but no-one expects it. Even though the nay-Sayers vastly outnumber us, until a dev tells us Varric won't be a romance...I'm holding out hope for the best. There's nothing wrong with that and no-one can tell me otherwise!

Well the romances seem set and they DID say they haven't even finished Varric's arc yet.

I think he will be round 3.

I personally think they'll all be bisexual, and it'll be Iron Bull and Blackwall.

 

But the last one will probably be female, so that leaves Vivienne.

 

But I still don't think it's her for whatever reason, so that leaves No. 3 open for me I guess.

 

I feel so sorry for the Varric fan's out there. I was personally hoping he'd be an LI this round too, if only for him to move on from Bianca. But, seems he's taking the Moreau route this time around...

You know, I am not the best person to talk about this since I am not personally invested, but I would prefer Varric and/or Blackwall to Solas. Varric certainly could use moving on, even if it is not necessarily with the PC.

because I think Iron Bull is race gated against the smaller races, likes elves and dwarfs. And I think it'd be unfair if Vivienne would be also gated against dwarfs or elves. But I don't know anything. Maybe Vivienne and iron Bull are just race gated against dwarfs and dwarfs get Dagna as an extra romance to balance things out..
