I'm going to guess Iron Bull/Vivienne as the race gated LIs and Solas as the ungated. I don't think they'll do a 5/3 split with all three being male.

I agree on Solas. He doesn't seem to have any indication of being gated at all, at least, compared to Iron Bull, Vivienne, or Varric.

Edit : putting Varric detail in another post to avoid confusion.

Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to open the sexist/feminist can o' worms here in expressing my opinion - it's just that.  An opinion.  I think Vivi would make for a fantastic LI, because she is a fascinating character - one I'm still not sure I'll love or hate... And I expect I may well feel that way even after finishing the game, which is what makes the idea of pursuing a romance with her so intriguing.

Like I said, the feeling here is 'squicky,' not offended.  As someone said before, it may well be something that Bioware didn't even think would bother people.

Oh, I didn't think that you were.  It just, like you say, doesn't sit right.

I was pretty critical of how few female companions we have when it was first announced, but I backed off when David Gaider assured us that the numbers were more even across the whole board.  Now I'm back to being bothered by the imbalance, because this is the kind of situation it creates.  I don't think it was intentional, like you say.  But it does have some unfortunate implications.

what if they don't put us out of our misery at gaymerx? :|

I'll stop caring, especially as I will have some important IRL matters to attend to.

My thoughts about Blackwall too. Although he is a great candidate for a fatal-style-romance ... Wardens are not officially allowed to have kids / keep kids and he will be heading for his calling at some point.

Varric I think is btw a rock and a hard place, he's the only dwarf, there has not been a dwarf romance since DA:O, don't even remember Orghen as a romance option. As mentioned many times before, if he is a LI the some explanation on why the sudden change of heart is required and I can think of one: given that the world is ending then what has he got to loose.

Still holding a candle for Vivienne.

The famous statement about banging anything that would not break strongly supports your point.

Good point!

Well, his chest hair is still all fluff...

I like the edgy, dark Varric. I think that his story could lead to a great romance, even if we have to help him move on from Bianca (she is gone, everyone, we just have to accept that)

lmao

I guess =/ I just wanted my bro Varric. Darker and Edgy Varric already has me alarmed.

I get that. It's okay to be bothered. I'm totally not criticizing you for it. I think it's a tough situation. Because I agree with you that it's a bit... sigh-worthy, AND I don't want to see lesbians get fewer options (if it was just straight male gamers, I'd be less worried because historically they have ALL the options. But lesbians have largely been in the same boat as gay men and even straight women).

It wouldn't even be a problem if there were just one (or two) more women among our companions. :/ Then we could have 4 female LIs and still have a couple women who weren't LIs at all.

WHAT IF. Vivienne were a lesbian? It would make it feel better for me because then it would feel less like dudes collecting ladies to sex. I know plenty of people would freak about it being unfair, but just for the sake of hypothetical argument, if all 4 women were LIs, but two of them weren't available to men at all, would that feel less squicky to you?

Exactly I'm just really bleh about the whole thing.

Not really. It's not just the dudes collecting ladies bit that bothers me. It's the females being written as LIs period thing. We'll have at least 3 male companions who aren't written as LIs at all. With males with females not at all. They have other things to do. Yet we can't have one female that's the same?

Having less options than others is not bad outcome, especially considering that we were treated like that in ME3 too (there it was the problem of the quality as well as the quantity)?

1 less LI than others? No that's not a particularly bad outcome to me. As for ME3 it did suck for f/f players. They weren't the only ones.

Edit: I'm not saying anyone isn't right to feel it is. I just wouldn't. As long as I got 2 decent choices and others didn't get an outrageous amount more than me (as in twice the amount of choices I got) I'm happy.

LOL - well I'm a straight woman, I'm looking to 'sex' them all...they don't have to show it, but please don't expect me to settle for the hand-holding only relationship that Sebastian offered.  Not that I'm completely shallow, I'm sure I had some other perfectly good reasons for never pursuing a relationship with him...they just escape me at the moment...

Yea, I'm not counting Varric out yet because, as you stated, it would add more variety to the romance options. Adding in a dwarf gated romance could get more people into playing a dwarf. I say he has just as much a chance as everybody else.

Sera won't be for 'dudes to collect her'. So that argument is already invalid. Making Vivienne unavailable for lesbian players won't change anything.

Did you just read what you quoted?

"It's not just about the dudes collecting ladies bit that bothers me. It's the females being written as LIs period thing." but thanks for trying to invalidate what I already simply said was my opinion on the matter.

Yeah, this, exactly.  The assumption, as a society, that all women are looking for love at any given moment, often supported by media outlets geared toward women... I don't want to derail the thread with a discussion on this, but, I can't help but roll my eyes when I see examples of it as this one would be, intentional on the part of the devs, or not.

Does it help that no Inquisitor will have all the female LIs available to them?

I'm glad you're happy with having more options than lesbian players. In the end, we would have only one companion which is side character, compared with Cassandra, who's basically a "celebrity" of this franchise, and advisor. But at least you could be glad that the one female companion (and the only WOC) is not romanceable. And enjoy extra romance for yourself.

Oh, and thanks for lecturing me that ME didn't only suck for me. Even if the only other romance option was of the poorest quality of all of them, had the least dialogue time, didn't have important scenes, and the character was made basically to titillate men first and foremost.

Pffffffft please hand holding would be breaking his vows most that romance got was an occasional dialog of 'we are in fact together as a couple!' and MAYBE he'll call you pretty once in a while but that's pushing it :P

I agree, at this point we all have reasons for each option to be true or not. I would honestly say that all options are up in the air now except Iron Bull - the tweets have made him pretty obviously a romance. Everyone else - who knows? I bet you can guess who I'm rooting for, though!

Actually I'd been happy with 2/2/2 hell I'd been happiest with 4 bi Lis ala DA2 (I didn't romance Seb and frankly wouldn't have cared if he wasn't a romance). I think BW going 8 Lis when they only had 3 female companions was a completely terrible idea and only said it makes me uncomfortable and while I would prefer all the female companions not being LIs I'd deal with it if it did occur.

I have no powers over who the devs make a romance. *shrug*

But if you want to believe I have something against Lesbian players having the same amount of options as everyone else go ahead.

As for me enjoying an extra romance. Yeah I would. You're saying you wouldn't enjoy having an extra one if BW gave you one?

I think when you really boil it down, though, it's probably only going to be Blackwall that counts as "not looking for love". Cole isn't a man, really. He's a spirit and his emotional maturity is not wholly adult. I totally understand the issue that he looks like a male, but spirits have no gender. Granted, Bioware doesn't often handle "non-gendered" well. (Asari, I'm looking at you.) Varric probably is looking for love and desperately so, just not from you. He's most likely tied up in his Bianca plot, which could very well end up being his main personal arc. So, basically, you have one human male that's not looking for love and that's because he's excepted he has barely any time left to live. He could have been one human woman the wasn't looking for love and that would have been really nice, though, don't get me wrong.

At least, that's if my predictions are correct, which they may not be.

So, gay male Inquisitors could potentially have 3 companion romances to choose from since the non-companion non-adviser romance has been debunked, right?

But, given the current situation of having eight LIs, would it not be be better and give more equal content for there to be 4/4 LIs?

Because it'd gank lesbians, and many of us are already annoyed by Cassandra's straightness. A hypothetical situation where there were only four or six LIs might have worked, but if that's not made sufficiently clear, it comes across badly in that regard.

So let me get this clear. You know that lesbian players were mistreated in previous games. And that the problem on the first place is that there are twice as much male than female companions. But you would still rather want us to have it the worst, so you could enjoy the fact that one female companion is not romanceable?

I'll be honest, trying to pick between Solas, Varric, and Blackwall for the last spot is making my head hurt. Just me?
