Unless the pull a Varric LI out of nowhere I am quite happy with my chances on getting at least one of the guys I've got my heart on. Sorry to all Varric fans I'm just doubtful he'll be in I think he's going to carry that torch a while longer, which I still don't find healthy but I've never been in a relationship let alone lost a romantic partner I cared deeply for so maybe its normal I have no clue. Though I'm holding back any glee until I get a confirmed yes or no from the higher up a clear one at that.

I could say Leliana is not available and she counts as part of the Inquisition, but you'd probably say she was available in a previous game. But she is a woman and she has no interest in any Inquisitor PC.

 

Yeah her being an LI in previous games thus not wanting to step on the players who romanced her toes if anything is why I don't take her into account.

Yes, this.  Like i said in the beginning, it's not a HUGE issue that all the gals are available... I just find it squicky.  Awkward.  Contrived....  

 

Having pretty much all of your advisors/companions find the Inquisitor attractive is already pretty contrived. Having four bisexual romances in the last game was pretty contrived. If you metagame things, that's where you'll pretty much always end up.

I think the writers almost can't win. If they make more LIs, people will be bothered that so many people can find the PC attractive. If they make fewer LIs, people will accuse them of favoring one RL group or complain that they can't romance character X. I am happy we have more options in this game as long as I get to have Solas.

Can't bring yourself to do it or keep messing up somehow? I can't seem to get the bonus those expensive fish are suppose to get you, filthy swimmy wastes of credits should have fed you to Javick or Grunt. xD

  Had they made one of the non-romanceable male characters female instead, so there is at least one female character who's priorities in life don't include finding a boyfriend/girlfriend, it would be a non-issue.

 

I agree with this, but I also think that there's a bit more to consider.  Hmm, I think this is one of those issues of intersectionality where gender and sexual representation make for a complex situation.  I absolutely agree with you that the depiction of women always in search of love is intensely problematic and by potentially having all the women be love interests is subtly reinforcing this idea.

 

But-- when it comes to representation in media I can also understand the desire for EQUAL representation particularly when one's sexual orientation has been used, abused and erased.  I agree that women shouldn't be seen as objects only for romance, but I also understand that fight for equal options especially when the normal is that others have had more than you.  To say, "well, you've got x and y this time so and this other issue is bigger"  ignores the history that the marginalized group has endured and the reality of what it means to be both woman and lesbian.  They intersect as identities and is more complex.

 

I'm bi so I'm going to have the romance out of everyone.  I don't think anyone meant to be insensitive or anything, but that's just a perspective to consider.  Aaand I'm gonna go back to lurking now.

Maybe should take a deep breath give it some time to set in and see if they feel any different about it after some time to wait for the initial freak out to settle? I can get why some people think having all the lady companions be LIs is weird but I'm not that bugged by it and I personally like our choices so far : 3  hope you get Solas

I admit I actually like the increased amount of LI's..and I have zero problems with the gender ratio myself, but I can totally understand why others are bothered about it. Maybe I'm in the minority on that though 

 

The only thing I want is for everyone to have equal options for sexuality. I'd hate for it to be skewed on one side (even if it would be my side that would have extra. I don't want that happening)

The problem, basically, is that DA:I looks like it's one of those "women have to justify their presence by being sexually available" pieces of media (at least as concerns the main group of the Inquisition, companions/advisors). Even Leliana is unavailable because of how she was previously available, i.e., she is unavailable because of her pre-existing romance status.

The days when I would come in here saying I wanted a Solas romance and I'd basically get a "TAKE HIM!!! I DON'T WANT HIM!" from everyone  How times have changed!

 

Then again I feel sad for anyone getting onto the Solas boat late since his chances are still kind of slim. I feel bad for Varric and Blackwall lovers too, because basically we're all in that same boat. Even if Solas isn't in, I'll be happy for those who get who they wanted. But I still want Solas damnit

Following Solas has been really interesting, because it's gone through so many huge shifts. Early on, he was the first male other than Varric that they were showing a lot of shots of and information about him (though only a little) was coming out in magazines. We'd seen a lot of him before most companions were even confirmed. I saw many people at the time saying he would probably be the main male romance. Hardly anyone was doubting he'd get some romance slot, as the token male elf. 

 

Then everything on him went dark really suddenly and I found it a big surprise. I was sure that he'd be the next revealed after Vivienne. They released the Dales info right after her release and most people were thinking he'd be the next Follower Friday as a sort of pairing, but then that system totally tanked and we got nothing concerning Solas for ages. The last companion revealed! I never would have guessed it back then. It was during this time, though, that people started gravitating towards other LIs, like Dorian especially after his reveal and before he was confirmed as gay. Before 2/2/2 crashed, a lot of people had all but lost hope he'd get any slot with Dorian and Cullen confirmed and the massive hint bombs dropping for Iron Bull. It's nice to see a lot of people building the interest back up for him and people (like myself, haha) gaining interest that wasn't there some time ago.

 

Personally, I wasn't hoping much for Solas before we saw his profile and then I really fell in love with his concept. That's very rare, for me. Usually I know pretty consistently if I'll be interested in a potential LI without much exposure to them. Solas has been a major slow burn for me, though. I was team Dorian right out of the gates, but now my interest level in Solas is right up there with him. I thought I would be disappointed if Cullen wasn't bi, but when he was finally revealed I was actually just happy that it made Solas's chances better to be bi. Really, really hope he'll be filling our ungated male LI slot, assuming we have one.

I understand seeing it from that perspective but I don't think the writers intended it that way, especially since several of them are women. I don't think they are trying to objectify their own gender, I think they are trying to make people happy by giving them more options. That said it would be cool to have more female companions, but I am used to most party members being male in rpgs since Baldur's Gate days so it doesn't bother me so much.

 

Maybe in the next game there will be a more balanced representation of male and female party members if the devs take feedback.

As if people have actually been suggesting Josephine is a transsexual, is this how desperate the thread has gone. Jo' is a woman, anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get off whatever med's they're taking.

Josephine would still be a woman if she was a transwoman.
