I understand seeing it from that perspective but I don't think the writers intended it that way, especially since several of them are women. I don't think they are trying to objectify their own gender, I think they are trying to make people happy by giving them more options. That said it would be cool to have more female companions, but I am used to most party members being male in rpgs since Baldur's Gate days so it doesn't bother me so much.
I'm sure the gender balance is completely unintentional, though I think our parties in DA were always gender unbalanced? It's more that we have a lot of LIs this time around.
In DA:O, character-wise we had (Men): Alistair, Zevran, Sten, Oghren; and (Women): Leliana, Morrigan and Wynne. I think it's safe to say that we shouldn't count Dog and Shale (because Shale doesn't really have a gender identity, despite having been a woman originally).
In DA:2, character-wise we had (Men): Varric, Anders, Fenris and Sebastian; and (Women): Aveline, Isabella, and Merrill. We also had either Carver/Bethany depending on class, so the gender was either balanced if you were playing a Warrior/Rogue and had the DLC.
DA:I seems to be following a pattern, sad as it is to say.
