Well, Varric might only be into qunari, after having his heart broken by Bianca. 
I think we might get Solas/IB as the race gated romances with Viviene rounding out the set of 3 to make up the 8.

Hmm if not Varric and IB, then it would probably be other BI love interests, it seems kinda mean to race-gate the gay and straight ones :/

Hmmm, that makes me think that the earlier assumptions of equal options for each race/class combo wouldn't work. Maybe there's race gates against dwarves/qunari, but none for humans? or something else that would make the inequality only depending on your race? As opposed to equal but different options if the race gates cancelled each other out (one no humans/elves, one no dwarf/qunari)

I think by special cases they mean amount of romances for every Inquisitor's race. Meaning that all races will probably not have an equal amount of options. Just judging that answer since it is pointing towards the question "Will each of the inquisitor race have an equal amunt of possible romances?"

Worrying about the distribution between male and female players, and one of them feeling like content geared at them was an afterthought, I am fine with. Worrying about a distribution amongst sexualities, and making it so that gay or bisexual players don't feel they won't have choices, I am also fine with. Worrying about "players who like playing dwarves" or "players who like playing humans" or whatever other races, that I'm not as concerned about. Which is why I'm saying you will have options, but you may not have the same number of options depending on what race you select.
It's fine if someone doesn't like that idea. Some folks, we're quite aware, aren't happy that romances are being gated at all and would prefer to have all romances available to all PC's. I would suggest not panicking just yet, as not all romances are even race-gated and the options have not all suddenly dried up as someone might fear, but I suppose until and unless they learn otherwise they can justifiably choose to be pessimistic. Maybe we'll put up the chart (yes, there's actually a chart) at some point, and having said information will make you feel better before you play the game, but that's not really my decision.

I've been thinking about this, but what if for example Dorian won't be interested in a Qunari Inquisitor because of some past incident with the Qunari in Tevinter? That could be a story reason.

It's definitely possible that it could be a gay/straight option instead of the bisexual options, like we're mostly guessing. As some people have pointed out, also, Cullen said some pretty racist things in the past concerning darves and Qunari and the Qunari attack on Kirkwall couldn't have improved his impression of them. Sera could dislike humans because of how they treat her and her people.
OK, this is what I'm sticking with, although I wouldn't say Varric is 'impossible'. If I had to switch him though I'd swap him with Solas for females only but still with some form of race-gating.

Blackwall as an LI wouldn't really be a meltdown
I meant Iron Bull not being the one expected to fill the last few vacancies, as there is alot of desire for him to be another option. If it turns out to be Blackwell instead of him though, lol!
To me, honestly, it doesn't make much difference what LIs are gated. Who is worse just depends on who you wanted to romance with what race.

Since they mentioned the race gated LIs will be race gated for story reasons I'm less confident that'll just leave it within the Bi LIs but this could be me just being negative and worrisome. I would hate to have the LIs available to only one gender to also have a race gate on them.

Cullen's already a NPC, why not add some race gating on top of it for fun 
(Saying this as someone is who is going to romance him with a human, but damn that would still suck even if it's completely plausible considering his character)
A detail that i think has been over looked is, will it be possible to romance more than one person, and if so how will they react?
What if you come back to the keep and run into the two of them in a heated argument with Varric just sitting back laughing, making bets with some soldiers on who'd win a fight between the two

I'm not sure there's really more demand for Iron Bull than Blackwall. People just expect Iron Bull because of the tweet hints we've gotten. Not everyone guessing he's an LI actually wants him as one. I think they both have a decent amount of demand, but neither are really among the most popular, imo. It's not like it would be taking someone like Cullen or Cassandra off the table.

Well I personally have my heart set hard on Dorian and Sera with qunari, I already gave up on having Iron Bull with a dwarf. Having the non BI LIs being race gated wouldn't ruin the game for me but I would pout for a good while over it before getting over it and enjoying the rest of the game.
