How so? You'd presumably still have access to a bisexual male or female who would romance a character of your chosen race.

I guess I just don't see the difference in having it be Dorian or Sera (or Cullen or Cassandra) instead of Josephine or whoever (as long as there are no paths where you'd be excluded entirely, one is much the same as any other, no?).

 

I just wouldn't like it is all. They already have reduced animations compared to everyone else and being the one stuck having to roll human/elf to get your LI while everyone else doesn't have to worry about that is sucky. Plus you might get a bi/exclusive option both being limited for your preferred orientation.

 

I mean if it was an extra option on top of it whatever. But meh.

 

Cullen's already a NPC, why not add some race gating on top of it for fun  (Saying this as someone is who is going to romance him with a human, but damn that would still suck even if it's completely plausible considering his character)

Well I personally have my heart set hard on Dorian and Sera with qunari, I already gave up on having Iron Bull with a dwarf. Having the non BI LIs being race gated wouldn't ruin the game for me but I would pout for a good while over it before getting over it and enjoying the rest of the game.

Well, you'd be upset because you specifically want Dorian and Sera with that race, but you'd feel the same if they were bi. So, that's kind of what I'm saying. Gating the gender gated options doesn't seem objectively worse. It just depends on who you personally want to romance and with what race.

A detail that i think has been over looked is, will it be possible to romance more than one person, and if so how will they react?

 

What if you come back to the keep and run into the two of them in a heated argument with Varric just sitting back laughing, making bets with some soldiers on who'd win a fight between the two

I don't think you'll be able to complete a romance with two, but getting involved with more than one to a point is probably possible. In the past games you could sleep with multiple people before locking in a romance and then they'd eventually make you choose. (Or they were supposed to, but some people managed to avoid it.) I'd say there a chance we could see some jealousy among the companions depending on whether you hook up with multiples before locking one in.

Well, if it is IB and someone else - the developers did tweet that to romance Iron Bull you only have to "be really open"

I see how you're looking at it now. I only play male humans/elves and I'm not going to play something else to do a romance, so I guess I just didn't see it that way.

I'll play as things I'm not fond playing as it just takes me longer like I know some people only prefer to play certain characters like you do with just males that are humans or elves, I eventually play them they just take me a long time to get to them. It's not just for the romance though it does make it easier for me if I'm not enjoying it, I do try to step out of my comfort zone with games but just takes forever for me to do so.

 

But I'm glad you understood what I meant. I was rereading what I wrote and scratching my head at it some, glad I could make it actually make sense

I agree with this, but I also think that there's a bit more to consider.  Hmm, I think this is one of those issues of intersectionality where gender and sexual representation make for a complex situation.  I absolutely agree with you that the depiction of women always in search of love is intensely problematic and by potentially having all the women be love interests is subtly reinforcing this idea.

 

But-- when it comes to representation in media I can also understand the desire for EQUAL representation particularly when one's sexual orientation has been used, abused and erased.  I agree that women shouldn't be seen as objects only for romance, but I also understand that fight for equal options especially when the normal is that others have had more than you.  To say, "well, you've got x and y this time so and this other issue is bigger"  ignores the history that the marginalized group has endured and the reality of what it means to be both woman and lesbian.  They intersect as identities and is more complex.

 

I'm bi so I'm going to have the romance out of everyone.  I don't think anyone meant to be insensitive or anything, but that's just a perspective to consider.  Aaand I'm gonna go back to lurking now.

Yes, it's definitely a more complex issue than I'm making it out to be here... one that deserves a more in-depth conversation - though this thread isn't exactly the place for it.  I was just trying to clarify that the fact that I was put off by the gender issue didn't mean I wanted straight men or lesbian players to have less options (which is how some people seemed to be interpreting my posts).

So like the Isabela and Zevran thing only with more options? I don't mind if sex is a big part of Iron Bull's character but I hope its not almost solely what is focused on with his character. Though given those choices there I'd do an angry glare after all thats just rude at least wait for the Inquisitor to wake up some first or when they aren't in the room.

The Qun doesn't even have romantic relationships, let alone a concept of monogamy in their culture, so it'll be interesting to see how the approach that. I kind of hope they do it in a realistic way and don't just have it come totally natural to him.

That would explain why you could only flirt with her (if she is the flirting NPC), you can't compete with Iron Bull for her affections

I kind of hope for a little both where you can leave it to just sex if you want but you can also pursue a relationship even if it takes him a long while to understand it. I just really don't want him to be in the count of the 8 LIs (if he is at all) and just be a fling no matter what you do.

Well, what I would mostly like to avoid is a situation where he just naturally wants to be monogamous once he decides he loves you, because that's not realistic at all (imo) for someone from a culture that has no concept of monogamous relationships. I think they could either have him as a non-monogamous relationship, or you have the option to tell him what you want from him and he can react however his writer felt was right for him.

They've never confirmed or denied it. There aren't any examples known.
