Yep where's til Me3 most of Jack's heavy content was featured only on the romance path. Otherwise you got the internal "i'll think about it" (or if you accidentally hit the wrong no when she admitted feelings for you the eternal "F*** OFF!" cause BW apparently thinks putting a fake no in romance dialogue is funny.)

That was a big problem with basically every romance in Bioware such as Garrus's 'I've got some calibrations to do' in that they didn't really have a friendship path to get more dialogue.

Oh he is a regular sourpuss and he's so broody but his romance dialogue doesn't result in me going "Wut" anywhere near as much as Anders does.

In the ME series I agree. DA series has been much better about the friendship paths however. So much better.

I would say a lot of that was the intent of the writer (Hepler, I think).   Things were not right with Anders and they wanted to show that early and often.

The worst one for me is a rivalmanced Anders going "I've been writing a list of the bullshit things templars do so you can stop being on their side, I fully expect you to read through this and have an epiphany and join the mage side".

I thought Merril's confession worked just fine for me, especially for the rivalry path.  And you have to consider that Hawke and Merril knew each other for 2-3 years prior to shacking up, so it's not all that sudden.

Honestly, I just couldn't warm up to Fenris's personality. I thought he was very attractive until he started talking. His growly tone made me really uncomfortable. I'm just easily put on edge by aggressive people, though.

Demons do that to people... So I had to make up for it by playing sarcastic Hawke all the way through. Damn it, Anders.

It didn't come off that way to me I actually liked that though that might be because my Hawkes were willing to listen since they didn't agree with his methods rather than his goals. When I can manage to do it right I think the Anders rivalmance will always be my favorite of DA2

True but she has such a non reaction to the flirts before that the sudden I love you had me very "wait what?"

I actually liked Anders' super dramatic lines like this one and the "I laid in bed every night aching for you.." one that other people hate. I'm a big sap. XD 

See, the one time I actually pushed through and did the Anders romance (I couldn't help the phrasing), it was an M/M romance, and so I took a very different implication out of that sentence. I absolutely got how it was intended to sound like... but I couldn't hear it any other way but the way I did (the phrasing just makes it worse, doesn't it).

I enjoyed Anders dramatic love.  It was one of the highlights of witnessing his romance, imo.  Anders was moved by his own interests and passions, and those would become very intensive and explosive.  Him going to the extreme of blowing things up, and him loving Hawke to the point of "drowning us both in blood if it keeps you safe" intensity all stems from that same ferociously emotional place.

By having a mental illness. It's quite easy.

Or I guess, more accurately, his possession lead him to behave as one would with a mental illness.

I enjoyed it for these reasons too. In fantasy I like more dramatic, tragic and twisted romances.
