Seeing as straight females and gay men have yet to have their second choices revealed, I'm inclined to think the remaining LIs are all male. I might've considered Vivienne if not for the race-gating companions whom I suspect will complement each other (and I disagree on the logic used to apply it to her character). So...
 
Blackwell- bi ungated 
Iron Bull- bi (dwarves are race-gated)
Varric - straight (qunari are race-gated)
 
Varric could be bi but I figured he could be the one companion romance exclusive to straight females. I figure the possible nature of Blackwall's story would be something available to most for maximum fan tears.


Yeah, I'm guessing varric for the straight male,but his probably exclusive to dwarfs.

No, I've been on team Cassandra pretty much since trailer where she threatens the placeholder inquisitor with her sword.  Though play through number 2 is a tossup between Sera and Josephine.

Women from previous entry aren't counted because they were not designed for that game.

 

I think Cassandra was designed for this game rather than DA2.

Varric and Blackwall are nice and all, but Vivi, IB and Solas appeal to me way more.

 

I'm just waiting for IB to be releaved and no gated,  I shall be so smug :whistle:

It could be anyone, really. Once they reveal who it is, we can have fun speculating about what the 'story' reason is for the gate.

I could also be completely wrong :P but given that the race -gated LI are for "story reasons" that means to me that IB is either not a romance, or a non-geted one, because he's already been established as omnisexual (if he's a LIs and tells a dwarfquisitor or elfquisitor that he might break them, I'll bang my head on my desk before Cassandra-stabbing it and flipping it......think about my desk, Bioware !).

 

I think Vivi might be race gated if LI, she seems like a person that has specific preferences, but it's just random stabs in the dark.

I believe they were planning it, even as they made DA2.  I think DA2 was always intended as a transition chapter in a larger story... one that could have been really great, even, had they had the proper development time.

Not exactly.

 

DA:I was the originally planned sequel to DAO, DA2 was another project that morphed into DA2.

I'm kind of like that with Vivienne. She's already a polarizing character without the additional baggage of being a LI.

 

I go back and forth on Solas too. I was leaning more towards him not being available but one of Allan's recent posts makes me wonder...but that's a dangerous path, so I'll stick to my current speculation.

Let's say such romance option was trans woman. If in DA universe there is nothing to provide actual sex change, then I don't see a reason for such romance, because it would only strengthen transphobic sentiments that they are just "men in drag who want to trick you into sex".

 

But let's say magic to make it possible exists, and the results are even better than in real life, so the woman in question was only born in male body, but fixed it since. Your reaction would still be the same?

 

At this point, the point of the character even identifying themselves as trans would be irrelevant because they *are* their new sex, both mentally and biologically.  There is no difference at all.  They have effectively gotten precisely what they wanted - to become their mental sex.  Why even bring up what they used to be?  This would just seem cheap to me.  Taking a character that *is* completely biologically and mentally a particular sex and saying - oh wait, never mind.  If they are going to address this issue, I think their are better ways to do it than this.

Also, to my mind, it would be more inclusive of transgender people to let them play a transgender character than it would be just to stick in a transgender LI. Then they can romance whoever they want.  This seems the real issue to me.  It's a little different from including gay romances because gay people are more specific in who they want to romance - people of their same biological sex.  Unless there are gay or bi LIs around, they *can't* actively roleplay a gay character.  So far as I know most transgender people don't want to romance only other transgender people.  If they are allowed to play as a transgender character then they can romance whoever - whether they identify as straight or gay or bi or what have you.

Do they have a set of genitals that are an utter turnoff for you? If so, maybe that can be brought up before sex. If not, than it's none of your business until they choose to share it.

Um, the past of the person you are romantically involved with is none of your business?  Sorry, this doesn't fly.

In my experience with Bioware games and their fandoms, characters who are romanceable get a LOT more slack and empathy than those who are not, in general.

I am hoping Vivienne isn't one because she sounds like a horrible, superficial person.  Granted, I'll give her a chance to prove me otherwise.  It's almost impossible to know anything about these characters based on one paragraph of text, but that paragraph of text is usually all I have to inform me of who I'll try to go for the first play through.

In my experience with Bioware games and their fandoms, characters who are romanceable get a LOT more slack and empathy than those who are not, in general.

 

I must be picking the wrong times to peep in at the forums then (to say nothing of other places...).
