They do it the same way a lot of romantic couples do it. They mutually acknowledge they're in a relationship with their special person.

Oh sure, I was just wondering what the asexual equivalent of "alone time" is. If naked hugging was acceptable, then the sex scenes we get wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker, so long as you use a little imagination. Or a little less imagination, as the case may be.

You know "sexual" people do all of that too, right? Because I feel kind of left out here xD

My point is, I think everyone would appreciate that.

Well yea ofcourse but we were talking about Asexuals in particular. Im not asexual i was just pointing out what they might feel. The main point was they are just like any one else.

Well in Dao you could select not to sleep with someone and not have the romance end. But twisting the dialogue is something I just can't do, no matter how hard I try.

Fair enough, Yukes. I hope you get your wish.

Well, and this I know only from listening to what asexuals have told me, is that it varies. Each of them has their own comfort zone with intimate acts. Some enjoy more than others.

So, for it to remain on the safe side in the game (if they were to do a romance), I'd say it should probably end with hand holding or maybe hugging.

If there is companion banter or NPC commentary on the PC having had a sexytime night, physically, with your LI, then it isn't just as 'avoidable' as pressing escape during a sex cutscene.  It is then having the world also imply and acknowledge you did something.  That'd be doubly immersion-breaking for an ace person, I imagine.  And too many hoops they "should" have to jump through for such.

Anyway.  The problem with having NPCs initiate romance or "chase" the PC is something we have already seen the result of.  The Anders Outcry of DAII.  You'd have many more instances like it.  Another aspect is that not all women might enjoy being hit on or prompted with unwanted attention without initiating it first, as such unwanted attention in reality is often annoying and pervasive enough as it is.  Coming to your escapism hobby and finding more of it isn't necessarily 'fun.'

This might be a silly question, but is gender a moot point to asexuals? Or is it a specific attraction to men/women, just without the smexytimes?

Well, for me personally I don't really care.. I have had relationships with both sides..but I do lean more towards men. To put it simply, it can be a specific attraction without the smexytimes, yes. But ace's may see someone attractive but don't think about wanting to bang them, in any form..they could watch an entire porno film and me like meh, see two people making out, meh.(to various degrees)

I'm sure there are mods that skip those cutscenes!

If you're a P.C player, then probably.

I think the main thing we can all agree on here is that each and everyone of us is diffrent. We all have diffrent wants, needs and preferences.

Again, you don't even have to go through them. In DAO, at least.

I suppose you could initiate with the first obvious flirt, at least then you'd know what you were getting into, after that perhaps the NPC/companion could give chase?

Closest I've been was in a friends with benefits type thing, where we did not have intercourse, but fooled around.

Romance demands are getting more and more specific.

"I want my female city elven rogue to have a polyamorous, asexual relationship with a female qunari mage and Varric. It's just one little request. That can't be too hard to write, so why is that not offered? I feel unfairly treated -- all the other people get their preference catered to with several options, but I get nothing."
"Uh. You sure that a game where you are the leader of an organisation to close the breach to the Fade and save the world is the right game for you?"

Don't feel awkward! I've played probably every single variation available in a BioWare game. I have preferences, sure, and it might take me a while to get there, but I do get there eventually.

I markedly prefer playing female to male pcs (except for Hawke.) and I prefer s/s relationships over o/s (but Garrus and Alistair got me through quite a shiitton of playthroughs).

Asexuality is very diverse in itself.  They vary from sexual attraction or sexual behavior, to heterosexual and homosexual, and everything in between.  You can be an ace gay man, an ace straight woman.  You can be an ace straight man that doesn't experience sexual attraction but may engage in sex with his partner and can enjoy it.  At its heart, asexuality is someone that does not experience sexual attraction.

If folks really are interested in learning further about asexuality, I'd recommend giving a look at the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN) for many good resources and a wiki on the subject.

I'm still sad that I didn't get any pats on the back for the obscure D&D joke a few pages back.
