I'm also okay with a swapping of Solas for Varric as romance... I'm also still not convinced that Vivienne will be one. I know we like for there to be equal male and female romances, but something isn't lining up with her being a romance :/

True. Not like keeping the LIs split exactly down the middle is a rule. But they have been pretty fair in the past. However, I would not object if they took out Vivienne and put in Blackwall.

I still convinced Varric will be a romance for only female Dwarfs and I have a feeling Solas won't be a romance. Also, Viv has to be one.

They haven't.

Dragon Age: Origins is the only Bioware game I can think of where there were equal numbers male and female love interests.

I was talking about the DA team, so if you are referring to Sebastian, I guess you got me on that one though I don't really count him as he is DLC. Trust me, I know how unfair the Mass Effect team (and don't get me started on swtor) has been with LIs. But this is not the place to get into that. :P

So another round of predictions:

Straight

Cassandra

Cullen

Gay

Dorian

Sera

Bisexual

Josephine

Solas

Iron Bull

Vivienne

With IB and Viv gated.

I like this. It gives straight males the same amount of romances as straight females, which some (including me) were thinking the females would win out here.

Also I hope someone like Blackwall is already married, being the reason he can't be romanced. Would be different from other Bioware games, no? Maybe his wife can hang around the keep or something.

Would your view change if Cullen was somehow a mage or had a deeper sympathy for the mages?

I ask because sometimes I do think people would tend to get involved romantically with characters who share their beliefs.

Not just that, but it would help.  If he were gay, I would definitely try a romance with him, but I suspect that I just like Dorian better.  Cullen, to me, is the opposite of Solas.  Cullen is physically attractive, but has a crappy personality.  Solas has an amazing personality, but isn't very attractive.  Dorian has the best of both, for me.

And ME2, which had a 3/3 gender split.  But yeah, those are the only ones.  Every other game (not sure about NWN, off the top of my head) out of the 11 games with romances were uneven.

I'd also like to point out to all of the people who are saying that Vivienne must be an LI because they would never split them unevenly that many people said the same thing back when we were speculating companions.  "There's no way that they will have only 3 female companions out of 9."  Look how that turned out.

I don't think Blackwall is married, but his sense of duty to the Grey Wardens cause has a possibilty to take him out the LI spot

Grey Wardens don't marry, generally, so he probably wont be. I imagine if he's not an LI it's because of his age paired with warden status. The other wardens we romanced were new and not close to their calling. He probably is.

Is having a Torchwood actor in every new DA game going to become a Bioware tradition?

Maybe, but who are you refering too?

Merril/Eve Myles. Who else?

I think you are confusing ME 2 with ME 3.  ME 2 only had 6 romances that unlocked the romance achievement (Miranda, Jack, Tali; Garrus, Jacob, Thane)

Plus, if Neeson voices him (keep up hope!) then he'll be a mentor character that teaches you all you know, and is then killed half way through the game.

She never had a fade to black scene, so I count her as a flirt, not a LI.

And I said vanilla DA2. And yes that counts since if you don't buy DLC, it is even.

I think that's splitting hairs. The romances with Samara and Kelly are carried over to ME3, and Liara has her own DLC where her romance is continued. Kaidan and Ashley are debatable, I guess, but with Liara alone it is already NOT equal.

I'll add that a BlackWall romance would be interesting and very likely be a sad one. His calling could be anytime soon, also one of the real reasons he left the wardens to join the inquisition.

I'd be ok with that.  I'd make a female dwarf just for him.

Even if I accepted this reasoning, there are still 7 other Bioware games without even distribution of LI's, so the point is moot.

They haven't been fair to lesbian players in DAO (in DA2, straight women still had one additional romance, even if it was DLC), and we would have the least options, in pair with straight men (though, they got the "celebrity" of the franchise, Cassandra, who almost certainly will play the bigger role than Sera).

Kelly, Liara, and Samara were available to both genders, so still even.

The post I responded to was talking about the gender of the love interests themselves, not who they were available for.
