To be fair, I don't think all of it is simple bigotry.  I think some of it just *any* attention given to something they don't care about.  This is just general pettiness. As an example, I really, really, really don't give two craps about VAs and I get irritated whenever Q&A sessions get dominated by "is such and such VA going to appear" and "who will voice so and so?"  I get frustrated whenever that's the topic of conversation.  I just know better than to rant and rave about it.

I think the reason why comments like that are so common on the internet in general nowadays is because the people who hold such beliefs find it less and less acceptable to say the same things IRL.

I feel the internet as a whole did not come across nearly as bigoted, say 10 years ago, but on the flip side I think it was more acceptable back then to actually say the same things IRL without being sort of anonymous. The internet has become a bit of a refuge for them, here they can still get away with it to a degree.

It seems pretty clear why some people complained about Dorian. There are still a decent amount of people that flatly do not believe that homosexuality should be presented as acceptable in media because it goes against their beliefs. They think it's wrong, for religious reasons or otherwise, and shouldn't be brought up unless it's to emphasize that it is wrong. To them, having a homosexual characters as more main stream and positively represented is working in opposition to how they would like things to be. Of course I don't agree with it, but I know the reason and I'm not surprised when I see it.

That reminds me of something I heard about the old Gargoyles cartoon that the writer wanted to make Lexington gay but something about either the studio turning it down or the fear of back lash made them get rid of that idea all together and to this day I wish they would have kept it in instead of trying to make the character straight by having him flirt with a female character :/ (assuming its true but I kept finding it so many places I assume at least the part of this character originally meant to be gay was)

True. So true.

Though lets not pretend that there wasn't a large portion of fans, on this site, who were raging because they wouldn't be able to romance him, not because they disagreed with his lifestyle.

All the racism, homophobia, yadda, yadda, comments garbage people usually avoid being talked here, you think it was all that anyone used to decide anything in their life. :{P

If your source is tumblr, you can almost guarantee it's not true. 80% at least.

I also think the internet is somewhat harmful to socialization becaues it lets you filter who you have social contact with.  It's a lot easier to find a group of people on the internet who share your opinions and to just reinforce each other in neverending groupthink.  In RL, you don't have this much control on who you encounter.  I think the internet is bad about promoting polarization in general.

No it was not tumblr I'm actually not 100% sure what that is since i don't use it^^; if I recall it was in the Wiki for the show but those aren't the best source for things like that.

Wouldn't surprise me though, things were way different in terms of acceptance for LGBT back in the 90's then they are today.

OT, but, your post intrigued me, so I went hunting a bit on google. Found this interview with the creator: INTERVIEW: GREG WEISMAN TALKS ‘GARGOYLES’ which does discuss Lexington being gay and their fear of writing it openly.

From what I checked on the wiki under notes if did mention it about his sexuality but nothing about why it wasn't in the show (I also found out its in comic form which is cool to know since i had no clue) but according to the wiki he was meant to be homosexual and I wish that was in the cartoon but I guess I'm kind of derailing here. Sorry everyone^^:

So it was that he was afraid of writing it openly then? That was a shame I really love Lexington's character and it would have been great and eyeopening (for me at least) to have a gay character on a popular cartoon. Oh well gathering from what I read there is a comic series with them where they are writing him as gay so thats something. Ahem sorry for going off topic I just really love my Gargoyles and I really adore Lexington  ^_^

Me too mostly. Especially here since the nickname won't be in the game. I'll call her Josephine in there.

I wouldn't be surprised if it comes up in a piece DLC. Bioware DLC tends to contain a lot of tongue in cheek self references and nods to the fanbase.

It will take awhile for me to start calling her Josephine rather than Scribe girl in my head, just because the name stayed so long it stuck.

Wait... Has there been confirmation that there will be no reference to "Scribbles" in-game?  :(

Anybody else wonder how her name will be pronounced since she's Antivan (or at least so I was told - didn't actually read that myself)?  I'm assuming plain old, jane o since it has an English spelling.  I was sort of wondering if it might have a Spanish flare.  (Haven't watched any videos either so this may already be answered.  I'm avoiding them on purpose).

Already been answered. They said it's pronounced like you would pronounce it in English.

Scribbles has a charm to it.

Scribbles has charm, Josephine has elegance. Though I will admit Scribbles fits better if you're wanting to be more playful with her  ^_^
