From description she certainly seems to care about cultivating a position/power in Orlesian society. Can't see her being open to relationship with an Elf say but maybe that's not a direction they'll go.

 

I don't get it. It's not "official" relationship anyway, since this world seems to be still deep down homophobic and heteronormative. I didn't read those books about Celene and all of that, but was it really such a problem she had romance with her elf servant? So, no nobles in Orlais have sexual contacts with their elven servants?

About the Vivenne speculation I just have a hard time picturing that they would restrict an LI to only one race even if it is the most popular race. Though I'm very bias and don't like playing as humans much

The problem with Celene's affair was more about a) it was with an elf, and 2) she was rejecting promising marriage alliances in favor of being loyal to Briala. This has less to do with being heteronormative or homophobic, and not even that much to do with producing heirs; it's all the nobles who are her suitors, or related to her suitors, being angry about being denied the chance to marry her and gain the power and prestige that would come with it.

Having sex with elves is one thing , being in a long term relationship with an elf is a whole different thing.

Human and elf couple are frown upon almost everywhere.

 

So yeah the Queen of Orlais having an elven girlfriend is a big scandal.

Looks pretty contrived to me, of course only when compared to adequate real life situation in comparable times (so, Celene as a man instead of woman, and elf servant, as servant girl from some mistreated ethnic group).

Of course, it would be another story if that servant girl had huge impact on that noble and everyone knew it.

It'd actually be scandalous even leaving out the Elven part.  The Elven part just makes it more so.

Implying one with an Elf(regularly insultingly described as rabbits) is the real kicker though.

Well, anyway, I'm pretty happy with my options so far.  I've got Dorian, who was my first choice.  It's looking likely that I will get Iron Bull (my second choice), as well, although possibly as a race-gated option.  The benefit of him being race-gated, however, would be that it would pretty much guarantee a third option for gay guys because I just can't see them having any race/gender/sexuality combinations with only one option.  Out of Blackwall, Varric, and Solas, I'm really happy with Blackwall and Varric.  I'd be okay with Solas too, I guess (tbd on that one, though, since he's looking more like a friendzone option).  And if Vivienne is a female option, I just hope that she's open to dwarves or qunari.  I'm not which one I'll do for my female character, but I might use Vivienne (if she's available) to tip the scales either way.

Somehow I think Celen was using Briala, and love was more of a way to hide her shame. Reason I feel this was the case is because she pitied Briala ...

We could still hear about them, but I think it's a bad idea for us all to expect to hear an LI announcement. Keep your fingers crossed, but don't be certain about it.

Relationship, as in modern way, as partnership?

 

In comparable real life times, no one really though that way. Marriage was mainly to produce children, and husband had power over wife, just like her father had before, there was no partnership. So I think that if that situation would be converted into some sort of real life situation, everyone would just think that the noble simply exploits the servant and there's nothing wrong with that. Of course, if it would become known that the servant gained influence over the noble, that would be a problem.

 

But of course it's a bit different in DA, since there apparently is gender equality to some point, which has impact on how relationships are perceived (which in turn would also have impact on same sex relationships, if they are tolerated), so those real life situations are not perfectly applicable.
