DON'T YOU TELL ME TO RELAX, LIN BEIFONG

A fan asked about that possibility and the panelists struck me as receptive to the idea. Not for dai but they talked about wanting to do it better justice than just having a romance that doesn't culminate in sex.
Are you there?
Tell us what's happening if so!
Wait, why would Cassandra be race-gated?

I sorry. Please don't cry, Lin!
(btw, totally loved that scene)
The "NO!!!" cracked me up. I love the staunch resistance for Cole. I honestly don't care. I love Cole, but I don't think he'd be a good romance option. Still, don't care if he is.
Which is very unlikely to happen.
I left it open to interpretation. "No! THEY ARE NOT A ROMANCE!!!" or "NOOOOOOO :C"

[WATERY EYES]
Thank you.
While I would hate for this to be true I'm starting to thnk that Cassandra might be one of the race gated romances. I remember reading in WoT that the pentaghast line is in trouble in Nevarra, and she might feel duty bound to save her family line despite leaving it behind previously, especially if it would help increase the inquisitions power. so maybe her quest would be similar to Alistairs only since she knows in advance she never even considers a nonhuman, and since the human warrior/rogue is confirmed as a noble.....
just idle speculation that I don't want to be true
We're not even going to Nevarra, so that shouldn't affect her romance.
Tsk Tsk.
So.. Gating theories;
Cassandra - Maybe has a drive to breed and continue her family name? Seems unlikely, since she joined the Seekers. Can't think of anything else.
Cullen - He's been pretty racist against Qunari and Dwarves in the past. Might not like a Dalish elf because they're not Andrastrian. Mage elf was.
Sera - Maybe doesn't like humans because of how they treat elves? Probably not, no other ideas.
Dorian - Tevinter has a lot of issues with Qunari and looks down on elves. Not sure if this will apply to him.
Vivienne - Could be gated to avoid scandal, although anything besides humans seems scandalous and that seems excessively restrictive.
Solas - Could have an issue with dwarves, since they have little connection to the fade.
Blackwall - No idea, nothing in his background implies gating, but we don't know much.
Varric - Has trauma issues with Qunari (and cinematic issues) and has said he's not into humans, in questionably serious context.
Basically, nothing sounds great, to be honest. Iron Bull was the only one that had a semi-physical reason to be gated. Everyone else kinda falls on racism. Maybe there are reasons that we just don't have enough information to come up with right now. ![]()
Hellbloodyfire. Why isn't Iron Bull racegated? It would have actually made physical sense.

It sounds like they worked hard to make him not race gated but he was going to be.

It sounds like he was going to be but BSN's new favourite John Epler worked really hard on the animation scenes to make it possible.

Well, good for them. They screwed us out one of only two LIs who'd have a plausible nonracist reason to be gated.

Do we know yet if he was going to be one of the 2 race gated ones or if he was a 3rd one and they brought it down to 2?

Sera doesn't come across as the typical elf who dislikes humans, heck she doesn't come across the typical elf at all and many elves in DA have shown attraction to humans both dalish and city, whether they be party members or one time flings. I think out of all of them they won't make Sera or Dorian race gated, they already made so many happy by making them gay, restricting them to race would just ****** to many people off.

We still have two gated LI. The Bull would've been a third.

Varric could just not be into people that are over a foot taller than he is.
Why isn't Iron Bull racegated?
Because he is a qunari of exquisite taste who realizes our inquisitor will be kickass regardless.

It seems it's going to be the third one, because there' still two more. Wich is wierd, because we assumed there were 6 and they added two more because of the extra time and included the race-gating to make it viable. Now it seems there were 5 and they added 3?

But Bioware never said anything about being fair towards player races

Yes, Varric is the other one. But if we still have two gated LIs, that means someone is racist.

No one, including yourself, is going to be forced to romance a racist (if those two people are).
I kind of wonder what the other gates are that they prioritized taking Iron Bull's gate off and not theirs. I mean, that strongly suggests they feel the story reason was more important with them, right? That's interesting, but I can't imagine what it would be.
