I'd honestly rather they did class restrictions than race restrictions, but they don't help with cinematic budgets, so I doubt they will.
I'm on the fence about that. On the one hand, they'd make a lot of sense On the other hand, I liked conflicted romances. I might liked them to be turned into rivalmances (or something similar)
So....
I don't think they'd race gate a straight or gay romance, cos they already are limited. And Josephine and Iron Bull are not race-gated.
At this point I think Vivienne has to be one of the romances - and what people have been saying about her being just for humans makes sense, for story reasons (since the humans come from nobility and she's a social climber).
Varric would make sense as dwarf only. Solas....in their interview it said he doesn't like people judging him as an elf, so it would be hypocritical for him to be race-gated. And there's not really any reason I currently know of for Blackwall to be race-gated.
So at this point I'm gonna expect Viv and Varric to be the last two romances. Sigh, I was hoping for Solas.
That sounds like a very good way to prevent Varric from romancing you.
Yea, sounds just as bad as the people saying they'll kill Bianca just to romance Varric
I kind of want to romance Bull now. Maybe as a dwarf because in my head it's going like this:
That sounds like a very good way to prevent Varric from romancing you.
I wasn't sure that Bioware would do a qunari romance, but I'm glad they did. It's nice to have something other than humans and elves for once.
are you comparing a lifeless weapon with a living breathing person? :vYea, sounds just as bad as the people saying they'll kill Bianca just to romance Varric
I admit I thought we'd have a dwarf romance before we got a qunari.
But what about the cheese!!?
I'm lactose intolerant. ![]()
I would really like Blackwall to be a romance but I don't see why I bother hoping, it's not going to happen ![]()

I'm talking about the real Bianca
So now that Iron Bull has been announced when does everyone think the other two romance options will be revealed?
Well, we know the following:
1. Both of the remaining romances are restricted by race for 'story reasons'.
2. The remaining possibilities are(In alphabetical order), Blackwall, Solas, Varric and Vivienne
So, let's examine those four characters individually.
Blackwall: A warden, an organization that is hardly conducive to a romantic life of any kind, and Blackwall is a veteran Warden, his Calling many years previous(Think Duncan). He is a very dedicated member of the order, fully committed to the cause. So, this is the question: IF Blackwall were to form a romantic attachment to anyone, would he really care about the race of his perspective romantic interest? Given what we know if him, I doubt it. And giving his dedication to being a Warden, I doubt he is a romance.
Solas: An apostate specializing in spirits and the Fade, Solas thinks that preconceptions and misunderstandings between all Thedosians are the cause behind all the conflict the world is suffering. If he were to be romantically involved with anyone, why would he have any orientation at all? From his perspective, an orientation simply means that a person is unwilling to go past certain boundaries, something that I doubt Solas would think well of himself for doing. I also think that Solas's history of living alone is for a reason. I don't think he finds emotional attachment to other people all that great. He might not outright dislike it, but I doubt it is a high priority for him. Given this, he sounds like a man to whom romantic feelings are either very little, or nonexistent. I doubt that he is a romance, something that breaks my Female Elven Mage's heart, let me assure you.
Varric: A storyteller and a charismatic rogue with a romantic history with at least one female member of his own species, and a previously stated orientation of 'not into humans'. Despite whatever emotional baggage he carries, he is very stable and handles himself well. This is not a damaged man, unable to find love again. Reluctant, hesitant, maybe. But not incapable. Given his already stated orientation, as well as the long-present desire by the fanbase to have him for a LI, as well as a complete an total lack of dwarven LIs of any kind, I firmly believe that Varric will be a LI for dwarves. I have believed this since I heard there would be dwarven PCs. It's high time players had the chance for dwarf/dwarf sexytimes. And yes, I think Varric will be bi. I can't see bioware restricting romance by race AND sex.
Vivienne: 'The Ambition', the marketing folks have dubbed her. A woman focused on power and influence, as well as looking very very fashionable. I think she would be a woman with high standards for whoever she takes to her bed, given her intention to remain in power for a long time. A Qunari, aDalish elf or dwarven surfacer are not ideal partners to help her reach a position of power an influence, though she will certainly make an exception for any Inquisitor, as far as friendship goes. But I think that in order to romance her, an Inquisitor must be a human noble(Warrior or Rogue) or one of the most powerful circle mages in Thedas(Human mage). She wants someone who will hold the most influence in human society, and the qunari, elvish or dwarven Inquisitors just wouldn't cut it, IMO.
So, final guess: the two remaining LIs will be Varris(for dwarves) and Vivienne(for humans)
right, u said smashing Bianca was as bad as killing Bianca :vI'm talking about the real Bianca

While I could play a character of a different sexual orientation and/or gender, I tend to play straight females. Thus far, the only possible LI I would want to pursue is Solas. It doesn't look likely that he will be available. Iron Bull is too promiscuous and Alpha Male. Dorian is arrogant, and I greatly dislike that trait. Sera looks like my sister. Vivienne is self-centered. Cassandra is too tempestuous. Cullen is too anti-mage (which is an issue since I mostly play mage, with the occasional rogue and rarely warriors). Blackwall has a huge beard--which I don't like. Varric is going to forever love Bianca-the-woman better than anyone else, even should he move on.
So there, you've now encountered someone who doesn't like at least one or two LIs.
And Josephine?
Well, we know the following:

We actually don't know if it's the unannounced LIs that are gated. It's just assumed.
snip
So, final guess: the two remaining LIs will be Varris(for dwarves) and Vivienne(for humans)
I agree, and thus it saddens me that I can't be a qunari in my "sleep with as many people as possible" playthrough.
Guess I'll have to be qunari in my evil playthrough.
right, u said smashing Bianca was as bad as killing Bianca :v
It is
Vivienne is surely a romance, if she isn't the prominent demographic (straight males) will only be open to two romances being Cassandra and Josephine. The final male will likely be between Solas and Varric with the former just nabbing it probably. It also wouldn't surprise me if all 4 remaining possible LI's were straight.
So, just got up. After finding out that Iron Bull has been confirmed as a bisexual love-interest, I think I've finally felt my first twinge of indecision for once...

There are only 2 remaining LIs, so that's going to be hard...
That sounds like a very weak excuse. They could easily limit such a relationship to a few conversations. It worked with just one conversation in Jade Empire. It could be done but for some odd reason I just think it's a conscious choice that they've avoided doing it again since then. I mean certainly it can't be because of the "taboo" nature of such relationships. I mean Bioware has had "controversial" same sex romance options up the wazoo for years now so I really don't think many people would bat an eyelash at a polyamorous romance options at this point.
I've discussed this in the past and I'm all for it. Romance formats have definitely gotten a bit stale and it would be nice if they allowed for relationships to be expanded upon and more complex. Honestly though I wouldn't get my hopes up about it and expect anything other than the usual crap.
