I just wonder if I can get through a "friendly" path with him, because it's really, really tempting to take the most negative approach towards Qunari issues. Maybe on my elf the second run, but I think it will be impressive if IB doesn't just ditch me on the mage run.

 

From all first impressions, Iron Bull seems like he's going to be a very approachable and accepting character. It might be easier to get through a "friendly" path with him than you might expect, so long as you aren't outright rude when talking about the Qunari. :3

I'll admit, on my first few toons that will be a no-brainer.  However, on my Qunari mage, we might not get along very well.

Considering what Qunari do to mages, I can't really see playing a mage character and not being outright rude about the Qunari, is sort of the thing.

If he's anything like Sten (I know, long stretch) standing up to him will actually make him respect you. I know personality wise he's no Sten, but perhaps it's something common for those who follow/were raised in the Qun. I've also heard he likes a dominant/strong personality. So it's definitely something to think about. I think we'll be safe saying we don't agree with it, as long as we keep the insults out of it.

I feel like his desire to help people means you can offset any points lost for hating the qun by being a generally helpful and trying to save people type of character.

Hmm, that's an excellent point.  It would be a nice way for players that disagree with the Qun to still be able to be friends with him, should they so choose.

 

 For example, the only reason why my Qunari mage would have some problems with him (and the Qun) is the way mages are treated in the Qun.  I've already got it in my head that while she doesn't follow the Qun, she respects much of it's ideals.  However, what she doesn't like and doesn't agree with will be vocalized every chance I get.  So we'll see.

 

My dwarf (my first toon) is going to be pretty laid back.  To quote the IB blurb: "If you're on the team, you're on the team."

I remember back in the day when there was a huge thread with female qunari LI in it. We are now have a Qunari LI except the LI has a sausage instead of egg. Maybe we have them to thank for it.

The way I imagine my mage character, I just don't see them fitting my ideal of them if they're at all nice to Iron Bull knowing what he is. It doesn't matter if IB is lax in his beliefs, that just makes him a hypocrite. He's still actively helping an institution that wants to mutilate and shackle my PC and I don't see this PC as an overly selfless person, so the trade off scenario doesn't count for much. I could see IB leaving on this run.

 

For my second character, which is supposed to have a more pragmatic and less hot headed approach, I think I'll just take a, "hold your tongue, keep him talking and tanking for you, get more out of him than he's getting out of us," approach with Iron Bull. And, if things go well and IB leaves the Qun, maybe a friendship will develop from that. If not it's just a, "you're worth more than you're a risk right now," situation. And if a blood sacrifice is needed, he has a lot of blood.

XD He probably is completely optional though I mean...I don't get killing optional companions myself well assuming they didn't do something stupid like attack you first. Much easier to skip recruiting them.

XD Yeah I'm going to be like that on my pro-circle/templar runs with the mage companions so I see where you're coming from. But yes I do hope the game let's us disagree vehemently with all of the companions. Even if it pisses them off and they leave because of it.

So I thought Bioware confirmed all romance options would be strictly companions and advisers? Someone on the Dragon Age wiki forums claim they read that there is atleast 1 romance option that isn't a companion or adviser. Many are speculating its Empress Celene of Orlais, Briala the handmaid/spy for Celene or a character we haven't heard of yet (this is in regards to the last unnamed female romance option).

They confirmed it would only be the companions and advisors for the 8 count. The extra is just a flirt option, they said. Doesn't count for the 8 LIs.

Would be kind of interesting if the flirt option is for the Empress lol, some are hoping you canmarry her in a political marriage like Anora and The Warden in Origins.  But glad to know its just companions and advisers, I want Vivi to be a bi option.

So, it seems like everyone has kind of written off Blackwall. Why is that? Why does everyone seem to think he's the least likely of the remaining possible LIs? It seems like everyone I see is saying Vivienne and either Varric or Solas now. It seemed more even between the three before the IB release.

I think the least likely are Varric and Blackwall   but I can't cry I got at least one I really wanted so I can't complain. But I think Viv and Solas are most likely to be the other LIs though the Solas one is based a lot off of the past two games having male elf LIs so that reasoning is shaky at best.

My character is also going to be a Qunari Mage. I was going to do it with my Dwarf on my 2nd playthrough for the hilarity, but I might just do it with my Qunari. So then I just have my Dwarf romance Cassandra. I now have a funny image in my mind of a Dwarf Inquisitor and Cassandra because of this
