Out of curiosity do you have any evidence that "freedom of speech" ever equaled "freedom from criticism"? As far as I knew freedom of speech was only meant to protect an individual from legal persecution.Way I see it is we have become too PC, "the right to freedom of speech" is often touted, however over the years it has become diluted to a meaningless term, where you have to second guess every little detail of what your going to say for fear that someone, somewhere will be offended, so should everyone in the entire world just stop speaking all together because inevitably somebody, somewhere will be offended after all that would solved the issue straight away right?.At the moment it there is a double standard where if a Caucasian man describes a man of African Ethnicity as "black" then the whole world is up in arms, turn the tables however and have the African man describe the the Caucasian man as a "snowman" and nobody bats an eyelid.
It would be like asking an American to stop pronouncing words like leisure, tomato, potato and Aluminium in their usual way because people who speak "British English" which is where English as we know it originated find it to be an insulting use of the English language. There was an addage that went something like "it takes 2 to tango"So when it comes down to the right of one individual to not "be offended" and the right of the apparent offendee to speak their mind is one more important than the other or are they both the same?
I find Justin Bieber Music to be offensive does that mean that Justin Bieber music should be banned because the number of people that find it offensive is outnumbered by the number of people enjoy it ? or should the offended just accept that the universe does not bend to their will simply because they demand it and move on ?
I'm sure someone somewhere will be offended that it has been suggested "stop being offended and grow a spine" or words to that effect oh what a weird and wonderful way the universe works
Can we please take the "Freedom of speech" stuff out of this thread? I really really wish Allan had just left well enough alone and not brought it back up after it was put to rest hours before.
It's amazing how many people don't understand what freedom of speech means and then try to apply it to their opinions on trivial pop culture things.
Speech in my society= say whatever you want to express
^Oh my god.
YESSSSS
It also means that you don't have to give a furry rats ass about the loud mouth idiots doing the yelling.
Likewise.
Oh Bioware you make feel so included it is to good to be true * looks at Iron Bull and Dorian threads* IT IS TRUE ![]()
Sorry, folks, no further LI news.
Aw. Thanks for keeping us informed, though.

Sorry, folks, no further LI news.
We've actually gotten so much news in this last week that I am not disappointed that we did not get anything else.
The good news is, I think the headache I have after this panel is entirely weather-related, instead of the anxiety-induced migraine I got last night!
In response to comment (Jessica is reading off some real criticisms they've gotten): "It seems like you're making games for minorities, and straight white guys are an afterthought."
A very solid rebuttal to the "There's no such thing as a stupid question" myth.
That said, this notion of "equality", where the only thing that is being discussed is the numbers and "fairness" to each group is bad for everyone. Having more choices for romance is not objectively better for the game or the characters, its just a box that bioware is looking to tick off, and does the quality of the experience little credit.
I've said this a couple times in the thread previously, and I will say it again: We should strive for equality in quality, not in quantity. Every romance in the game should be like Alistair, Morrigan, or Anders... where our relationship with them has a real impact on their character arc and behaviors, and in the case of Anders (and any bisexual romance), a difference in how the character behaves in relation to a different main character. We're not going to get good transsexual characters or romances because the lead writer of DA4 says to his people "I need 4 transsexual characters, STAT!". That will just lead to carbon copying tropes and then a ceiling to the number of diverse characters that we see.
I want to see a game where there is more than one gay guy in the group. More than one lesbian. I want to see actual bisexuals like myself, that act very differently based on who they're with. I don't want **** to happen like a writer going "Hey, as I'm writing this character more and more, I feel like he should be gay, it fits him and his arc really well" - "Nah sorry, we've already got our quota up. Just make him bisexual!" - "Er, I don't know if we have the time to write another romance tree for him...." - "It's okay, we'll just copy-paste the one we already wrote for the other gender, its all EQUAL MAN!" These 'equal' numbers don't serve anyone with quality writing, and that's the trough we all come to Bioware for to fill up at.
edit: To add to this, I don't mind the fact that there are 8 romances, or if there happens to be a 2/4/2 split, I'm just saying that if that happens, and if the bi romances are copy/paste, or the gay and straight romances are all the same tropes they've done before... I'm going to rip them a new ******* for being focused on a stupid numbers game and not actual quality writing.
Wish bioware would just say who the last two are it won´t hurt them to tell us.
Oh for fucks sake Bioware, just tell us already, Jesus.
You said EXACTLY what's I'm thinking. I'm getting tired of being strung along, I don't want to get my hopes up anymore
Wish bioware would just say who the last two are it won´t hurt them to tell us.
Well, actually it will. People want Blackwall, Solas, Varric, and Vivienne. Since only two are Lis, it will hurt the fans wanting the two who don't make the cut.
I kind of suspected this. It's cool though because we now know two options each for straight guys, straight gals, gay guys, and lesbians. Now, hopefully, people can stop with the "we're being neglected" threads. Everything else from this point on is 'extra' in my opinion. We'll just have to keep an eye on Twitter since devs have been hinting (and in some cases confirming) romances there. When is the next gaming convention?
They are going to be at the San Diego Comic-con, which starts on the 24th.. in about 11 days. So not too long!

but this way, it's even more important to tell us who they are. So we don't have to get our hopes up anymore.
I think they should JUST reveal the last two's sexual orientations and preferences (not who they are though), so we can spend the next three months guessing with at least some direction ![]()
