Honestly, it doesn't make any difference to me. All that will really effect me is if one of the characters I like is gated against a race I wanted to romance them with. It wont matter to me if it's a bi or gay character. I can't really get invested, otherwise. I doubt anyone I'd want to romance would be gated against both humans and elves, so I'm not very stressed about them at all. I'm mostly just worried the last male slot will be straight.

Yeah, I'm also worried about that as well.

Which is why I'm hoping Varric isn't the last male LI, not only because I would prefer Blackwall or Solas, but also because I have a sinking feeling Varric is canonically straight.

I thought the same until this: https://twitter.com/...301574452977664

Well I guess that changes things. Still, I hope she's straight in the end should she be romanceable.

I thought she had Rivian heritage but born in Orlais?

She has a very, very British accent.

For all we know, she could have been born somewhere else but transferred to an Orlesian Circle while she was still an apprentice or something.

I personally hope she's bisexual so she's open to both genders.  Lesbians should get another LI as well.  It's not like any lesbian can come into your game and steal Vivienne away from straight men if she's bi.

The LGBT community isn't going to be able to hack someone's game and take away any bisexual LIs directly from straight men or women.  Promise.  See, that technology is still a few years away.  For now, you should be safe.   ;)

having the last two be bi even with race gating would still make it even that would be two more choices for both males and females.

That's not what I meant! I just meant like I'd like her to be a straight woman as a character, I'd like her background not to have any complex moments with other women or anything just because she's been in Orlais for a while.

Meh, it's far more important for there to be more F/F options than to go against whatever stereotypes a fictional country has.

And specifically:

3 options for straight guys

3 options for straight girls

3 options for lesbians

3 options for gay guys

Perfection.

Which would suggest the choices are equal, 3 girls and boys to choose from per-gender but Bioware has already suggested the numbers are not equal. I'm expecting one race-gated individual to be bisexual and another heterosexual.

I just can't understand this reasoning.

A.) What confirmed bisexual Orlesians do we even have? I can't think of one. Marjolaine is questionable, Leliana is Ferelden. Who else? Really.

B.) Why is it a bad thing if bisexuality is common in Orlais? Why is that something to be avoided?

I'm not sure what you mean by "complex moments with other women" (or why she'd be more likely to have those in Orlais than any place else in Thedas), but what if she just never mentions any past relationships with women in a game with a male Inquisitor?  Or, what if she's never been in a relationship with a woman before, and it only happens in a game with a female Inquisitor?  Would it change your interactions with her in any way?

What if she was actually, you know, born bisexual and it had nothing to do where she was brought up?  Stop equating sexuality with nationality, it's not the same thing.

What if she had a very nice relationship in the past with another woman, that ended on good terms?  Is that a problem?

What if it turns out she had this really complicated and complex relationship with a man in her past that comes back during the game?   Would you prefer to deal with her ex lover more if they were a man?   Or would it matter in that case if they were male or female?

<sigh> Is bisexuality really  that hard to understand?  People are complex creatures, regardless of gender.  I've found over the years that gender has nothing to do with how complex or simple a relationship is.  It's the person that counts, not their gender.  <_<

@Mort

Orlais is obviously a horrible hive of unsavory bisexuals.

They only actually suggested race gates would be unequal. No comment on anything else. They said equality in gender and sexuality distribution was the priority, though.

It's just unrealistic, I know we don't have magic irl but I also cant imagine a society having 95% bisexual people when it's something genetic and not based upon your city. That's a different debate, though.

SO HOW 'BOUT THOSE RACE-GATES!

I'M PRETTY MUCH ALL IN ON VIVIENNE BEING BISEXUAL AND RACE-GATED AGAINST AT LEAST ELVES AND QUNARI!

THOSE GUYS, THOUGH! THEY ARE WAY MORE DIFFICULT! DREAM-GATED BISEXUAL SOLAS IS MY CURRENT HOPE!

Oh, this is good.  Please, show me where you got your numbers from?  A source other than your own headcanon?  This is utterly ridiculous.

*face palms* come on guys stop thinking about this in real world standards, this is a video game, its fiction anything can happen, Stop worrying about how something seems unrealistic in a game where magic, elves, dwarves, dragons and other monsters exist <.<

As soon as there's more than 3 bisexuals in the same place, it's unrealistic. But dragons? That's fine

The realism argument doesn't really apply because we're working with such a small group of individuals (12).  Heck, even all of them being bisexual would only be improbable, not impossible, in our world (with probability being biased based on the criteria by which you select the characters).

There's 8 romances.  We know 4 of them are NOT bisexual.  Which would mean that, at most, 4/12  (1/3) of the people happen to be bisexual.  This doesn't strike me as unrealistic, especially in a fictional setting.

Maybe if I met an Orlesian in-game who hasn't dabbled in both genders I won't assume literally everyone there is bisexual.

I don't care if she is bisexual, I'd just personally find it a bit samey seeing as she happens to be Orlesian. That is all.
