In Lady Insanity's interview David Gaider states you don't have to have sex in all romances! I know that will be really good news for some people.

Good. When I pursue a romance option, I do so for the additional story and character interaction with characters I like, not the cheesy and awkward lovemaking scene.

 

I think the animations might be much better this time around. Not saying you SHOULD sleep with the romance of your choice, of course, I just think they can only improve in this department. And it sounds like they worked their butts off to make sure the different races work well.

I have to admit. After I finally came back to the forum after a couple-year hiatus, one of the first things I thought was 'Oh good, I'm glad Maria's still around.'

Also, folks can start trying to plan what race/gender/class they are going to be.  For some, that's the hold up for them.  Finally, the longer this drags out, the more spoilers will be out there for posters to try to avoid.  I don't mind spoilers, but plenty of folks do.

 

I am one of those types currently in planning limbo.  I have many pseudo-plans and character backgrounds pieced together, but I can't lock down on one or the order of playthroughs until I know the remaining LIs.

maybe it wouldn't be varric because varric is a dwarf and we've heard dgaiders opinions on dwarfmance before afaik 

maybe it would be solas because.. he is...bald too??? dgaider certainly seemed a bit defensive of solas back when people were pooping on solas just because he is bald

Honestly I can picture anyone accepting that. I think that kind of good intentions are always believable (at least for me) coming from someone in love, because even if it seems out of character for a specific companion, well, love tends to make people do things they'd never do otherwise  . Different question is how many can actually live up to that good intentions in the long term... but, well, I don't think that problem it's going to come up in the game

That seems obvious - and yet, it also seemed obvious that he would be race-gated. Bull is just full of surprises.

DAO is the only game I've ever installed a nude mod for. The scenes still weren't great, but at least I didn't spend the whole time wondering where the hell Morrigan got a bra from and why she put it on just to have sex in.

Ha!  Very interesting.  I was probably just a clarifying question, but I do prefer to think that this means that he has some interest in one of the remaining LI's.  And, of course, that tells us absolutely nothing because we don't actually know what he thinks about the remaining characters, outside of appreciating Vivienne's snarkiness and coming to Solas' defense when he (Solas) was first attacked on the forums because of his looks.

No, it definitely says nothing about the matter, but it's nice to think that has in high steam one the unveiled LIs (and it's nice for me to think too that it's Solas  , but that's just wishfull thinking, I admit it  )

I can't help but think that this means that one of the remaining LI's has to be a race-gated bisexual male.  I just cannot accept that they would have allowed gay dwarves to only have one option.  Especially after reading Gaider's quote about being okay with asking players to play as a different race/gender/sexuality to access a specific character, but not just to get equitable options.  One of the remaining LI's has got to be a male character that is available to male dwarves, right?

Not necessrily, if male dwarfs already have Dorian or Iron bull.

Yeah, but my point is that Iron Bull was confirmed as having been race-gated (almost definitely against dwarves because of animation issues) up until very recently.  So, dwarves didn't have access to him.  Since Gaider stated that everyone would have equitable options (not even, but equitable), I can't imagine that straight lady dwarves and gay male dwarves would have had only one option available to them until they "fixed" IB.

 

So, I assume that the remaining LI's have to offer an option for straight lady dwarves and gay male dwarves.  It could be one character (i.e., a bisexual male who is open for dwarves) or a combination of the two of them (a straight guy and gay guy who are both open for dwarves --- although this seems unlikely).

It may have been one contributing factor in why IB was "fixed?"  The lack of options for that angle.  I do think there is one more bi male LI left. Mayhaps another contributing factor is that they didn't want two of the three race-gated characters to be bi men while the lady LIs had less racegating restrictions.

David Gaider did say that they'd aimed to give every PC two options, and given that Iron Bull was race-gated a matter of weeks ago, that does imply that there's a dwarf-loving dude in the last two options. Which doesn't really help narrow it down any, but it's interesting.

 

Crazy theory time: maybe one of the reasons John Epler worked insane hours to get Iron Bull to be truly, uh, open for business is that one of the other, still-existing race-gated option is doesn't like dwarves? And maybe they suspected that us dwarf-lovers would be upset and post pictures of sad animals all over the place if we were denied Iron Bull and another option as well? So maybe we've got one remaining option who is male and digs dwarves and Vivienne/another dude/someone already announced that we don't know is race-gated does not like dwarves? (This is all wild theorising, of course.)

That's certainly a possibility.  I can't shake the Gaider quote about "I feel okay asking people to play a different gender/race/sexuality to romance a particular character, but not just to get equitable options" (or something to that effect).  He also stated that The Chart ™ was specifically to make sure that they didn't overlook anyone when it came to choices, so I just suspect that straight dwarf ladies and gay dwarf guys are going to be getting at least one more option.  Of course, those are probably some of the least played demographics so I don't know how many people care, but there you go!

Totally possible.  Totally improbable.  I just can't see us getting two gay guys in this game.  I mean, that would literally triple the amount of gay guys ever in Bioware romances.  I love this team, but I'd be completely gobsmacked if they did that.  I suspect a bisexual lady and a bisexual guy, to be honest.
