Steve says hi too :(

Although mikey is right that it's the first in Dragon Age. It'll be interesting to see how they would function in that setting. Would they be out or nonchalant about it?  We haven't actually seen how a gay person functions in that setting, except for one particular queen who's already an exceptional case.

Steve wasn't a companion.

I haven't been reading up on this topic much but I am curious enough to ask a question.

As a straight male (who enjoys a good bioware romance) going into this game, I see 3 female companions.

Cassandra: Who's personality we glimpsed in DA:2. She comes off as way to serious/intense and I'm a little turned off by her Masculine look.

Vivienne: I'm interested to learn more but from the (extremely limited!) information available at this time, I can tell you that I'm put off by her look. I don't find her very attractive and her outfits seem annoyingly goofy to me.

Sera: The one I was most interested in but has now been confirmed as female only LI. I like her look and since that's really all we had to go on for the moment...

Anyways, please tell me there is another option! I'm gonna be really disappointed if I have to play another Dragon Age game where the romances don't appeal to me!

Well there's Scribbles...which we know basically nothing about but could be  a LI.

The likelihood is that Scribe Girl (adviser) will be a romance option. Hopefully when you interact with the characters in game you will find them more to your taste :)

EDIT: Ninja'd

There is Scribbles she might be an npc romance option like Cullen is.

Companion-wise, that's all. There are only three female companion characters. That said, there's a good chance that the unnamed female NPC (most call her Scribbles) is a LI. We know nothing about her, except that it is extremely likely she heads our mercantile/political front. The other female NPC, Leliana, is not an option.

I see I misread your post. You are right it is the first gay male companion in any BioWare game ever.

You might change your mind after interacting with them.

You might see a different side to Cassandra and Vivienne. I wouldn't be put off just yet. Honestly, I'm pretty sure Cassandra is a softie at heart.

Y'know, I've never even been able to make Juhani's romance trigger at all. I wouldn't be surprised if few people even know it exists.

Not surprising some wouldn't know of her romance, i remember the rumours of LucasArts doing a hachet job on Juhani's character when they found out about her lesbian status.

I was talking about Sera (coz i never knew Juhani was a romance option) but seeing as there will probably be a gay male romance and as I doubt that it will be Cullen then yeah it looks like it will be.  ^_^

I share your disappointment over Sera.  It is the character description more than the looks that puts me off the other two.   I am just holding my breath now to see which of the characters is gay and which are bisexual because I think there is a strong possibility that my male Inquisitor is going to end up bisexual or not romance at all.   However, that said, going into ME2 I thought the last person I would want to romance was Jack and then would you believe it, I really fell for her, particularly when she went all weepy and vulnerable on me (which I found touching but apparently other people found disturbing).     So may be Cassandra or Vivienne will turn out to be very different when we get to know them.   It's best not to prejudge people too much or go solely on looks.

Well hopefully your right or this Scribbles girl ends up being more appealing cause going through a Bioware game without pursuing a romance is like eating a cake without the icing.

Unless that Bioware game is DA2. Then it's like eating a donut without the frosting.

... A donut that was dropped on the floor and kicked about a bit. :)

Yeah, Juhani's romance was really more of a pseudo-romance, to be honest.  It was difficult to trigger and it had less content, but it still existed.  She was still pretty memorable for a few reasons.  First gay Star Wars character and first gay companion in a Bioware game.

I just hope the friendship paths are way better then it was in ME2, was annoying when companions would practically (literally in Jacks case) tell you to f**k off if they weren't romanced & wouldn't talk anymore :(

Well yeah I mean... do you really think Cassandra and Vivienne will permanently be the hardasses they seem to be?

Well maybe Vivienne...

Isn't that "realistic" though? It's the way Jack is.

It might suck for the player but she was in character.

Was frustrating playing as a femshep & always getting blocked from her character development just cos she didn't have a d*ck though, imo anyway.

No she isn't.

Why would she mellow if romanced rather than befriended ? does Shepard have some kind a space magic healing dick ?

That reminds me, is rivalry/friendship making a return in DA:I? Will it apply to just companions or the advisor's too?

R/F isn't back. They're returned to an approval system, though different from DAO.

No?

If you remember it took quite a lot of talking to get her to open up and you had to be rather friendly and concerned about it.

Eventually she opens up to you and lets her hair down (figuratively speaking).

Is that so hard to imagine? Romantic feelings can have drastic effects on one's character. In this case, Shepard managed to break down the wall Jack had built over the years.

It wasn't space magic healing dick. It was personal growth catalyzed by the comfort Shepard provided her.

Why so cynical?

That's a good question.

I would assume it would return in some form, since it's been a staple mechanic for so long. In what form, however, I have no idea. I hope they refine the friendship/rivalry system, personally. And applying it to the advisers would be interesting.

Well we know you can ****** all but one of your companions off enough for them to leave. It seems like advisers play a pretty important role for them to leave but I am sure you can fall out with them. From what some of the devs have said romances are no longer about approval and play out more naturally so I guess that may be the same for friendships.

I do hope there can be some of the agree to disagree stuff from DA2 though.
