Maybe Solas will have issues with Qunari, in general. He definitely seems not to like IB. The Inquisitor isn't of the Qun, though, and I don't think there'd likely have been a Qunari sacking on his tiny village in Orlais, or whatever, to inspire a traumatic reaction. Unless he's not from Orlais and is from somewhere close to Qunari lands? Do we know where Solas is originally from?

Nope, I tried a few weeks ago to ask that to Patrick on twitter, but I didn't get a response. I'm assuming it might be spoilery or something to his backstory

Believe it or not I loved the Neverwinter Nights 2 romances, because I was quite young at the time and they were the first romances in a game I had ever experienced (Not counting KOTOR, but I was too young to really understand them at the time). The ending left me devastated.

I can believe it very easily.  Sky is to me as NWN2's LI(s) is to you.  Sky was the first m/m pairing I had in a game, something I've always wanted to see represented.  Even though his romance is rife with problems, from mechanics to set up, he was the first (of mine) in a time where such things were unthinkable to even have in a video game beyond joke novelty.  He'll always have a special place in my cold, black heart.

It's similar to NWN, though, in that I really did not like the OC but the expansion I loved.  Hordes of the Underdark is one of my favorites, and the romances were lovely (Gaider wrote the dude LI, Valen).

Wait, DG wrote Valen?  Just when I didn't think I could love the man anymore.  I think I have a platonic crush on David Gaider now.

Tieflings are my favorite D&D race.

Oh? Where was it stated that he has a problem with Iron Bull was it on the main sight somewhere? Or in a video I most likely missed? ^^;

It says in Patrick Weekes interview that he doesn't get along with IB, but it seems to be because Solas has issues with the Qun and freedom. I don't know if it's at all relevant to race gating.

You're welcome.  :wizard:   NWN2 OC's (good 'rocks fall') ending was one of the worst endings in a choice-driven RPG that I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing.  I remember laughing out loud when the credits rolled, in lieu of not knowing what else to think.  Did that really happen?  Yes.  Yes, I did just get trolled by a video game.    The romances in the game were some of the worst I've played as well.  When the romances have me cringing and gritting my teeth the entire game... Goodness.  I still hold a torch for Bishop, though.  That voice.  MotB, however, was excellent across all counts.

I loved MOTB; it was also the only game to date that offered romances where I did not romance anyone, because neither Gannayev nor Kayelin were available to my male PC. That made me sad.

I think Sera is safe, her character comes off as the type were she wouldn't care about race.

Sera loves to be an elf and she do not like nobles. She could easily be gated against the human Inquisitor.

Once again, i'm sacrificing myself for Cass to let her be the one that gets race-gated so others are free.

I can't decide if that is selfish of you (trying to keep Cassandra all to your self) or selfess. ;)

Hmm must have overlooked that then last time I went to the sight. Thanks for the clarification :)

I wish that bi/pan romances were in that game.  I would have loved to share Genn with my gay/bisexual male friends.  The romance was really good.   :(

If height animation issues were the problem then no dwarf would have a romance lol. The animation issue was more than likely with Iron Bull which they fixed, story reasons are really the only thing left for race gating

It sounded to me like the animators have been working on the Iron Bull height difference problem for a quite a while (perhaps since his conception as a romance?)  to make it work and it sounded like a difficult problem to solve. Cullen is the next tallest male romance and I don't see them jumping through the same hoops to make his romance work for dwarves. Its easier to leave him race-gated and it wouldn't break his character unlike the Iron Bull. But maybe height isn't the problem I think it is and it is purely story related. It could be anyone then.

Putting aside his personality, there was a surreal mystical element to him that I found positively alluring, and IMO he seemed like the sort of character who could easily have been pan. But YMMV.

Edit: This is one of the many reasons why I <3 Bioware.

I didn't realize he wrote Valen either! Valen was the first character I romanced and I loved it.

That also means that, to date, I have always and only romanced characters written by David Gaider. Hah!

That is actually a good point. I could see that working for story purposes. I just wonder if they would actually gate anyone from humans.

My human Inquisitor is really a half elf, honest!

I think that one of the humans will be against elves - either because s/he sees them as inferiors and maybe because s/he is half elf and can't stand that.

I suspect Sera will put aside any prejudice if she finds a human femquisitor sufficiently smoking hot.

I think Sera would make a lot of sense for story reasons, but I think the gated female is probably Vivienne and the other gated option is probably a male. So, just personally, I think it's probably not Sera.

Plus, I really doubt that BioWare is going to race gate Dorian or Sera.  It wouldn't feel right to race gate the first lesbian and the first gay LIs.

They're going to do whatever they are going to do, but I don't think they'd do that.

Its never been stated that she is pro elf, if anything she isn't to fond of the dalish and could well be gated off to the Inquisitor if she is a dalish elf. Humans are the most played I highly doubt they are going to restrict the first lesbian party member from humans

Same here, this is my dream outcome. IF it's Varric and not Solas, I'd be fine with that too.

I wouldn't be so down on Blackwall, but I selfishly don't want another "warrior" type added already onto Cullen and IB, and I'd rather have an elf or a dwarf for more variety instead of another human. I do like Blackwall as a character though!

While my dream outcome would be Solas and Varric I'm preparing myself for disappointment in that case. I think Vivienne + Solas/Varric is more likely. Don't get me wrong, I'd love either Solas or Varric. However Varric is likely to be gated for Dwarves only, and I love playing mages, so that'll be kind of depressing.

As for Blackwall...I can't see it. In the GaymerX panel they talked about having a lot of variety among the romance options. Blackwall seems a bit too similar to Iron Bull and Cullen to provide enough variation (big warrior dude like the former, but very honour-bound like the latter).

And my prediction for whether it'll be Varric or Solas changes too often for me to make a definite statement. I was so convinced that IB was gonna be one of our race-gated options, but now I don't know.

Hey, Gaider got rid of what I considered representation for my orientation, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Some say Solas' Fade thing could make him gated against Dwarves and/or Qunari

I think Sera would enjoy the idea that her relationship would tweak the prejudices of the other human nobles.

I mean, assuming the PC isn't some snobbish jerk herself
