I know, right? He always makes very thoughtful posts. And dude knows how to *listen*.

Allan is good people.  I greatly appreciate him.  I didn't know if anyone could ever quite fill a supportive, thoughtful mod role like Epler did, but Allan came along, and it's been beautiful music.

They did say that they prefer having set sexualities. Them doing the ambiguity in DA2 was just since they had only 4 romances to work with. And some people's reactions to it sure seemed to turn them off to the idea of doing that again.

Right but they never said that they wouldn't do it for a particular romance. Plus, almost no one on the boards were really familIar with your sexuality so it is not impossible to think that the writers may have been unaware of it too. They seemed pretty open the idea of an asexual romance, so clearly, they are willing to consider other orientations as well. I wouldn't give up hope. I just also wouldn't be so snippy about Gaider because he was the bearer of bad news in this case.

Two things we can all agree on now; Allan is awesome and we still want the last 2 LI reveals. We're making progress on unity, people.  :P

I can see them having someone who's at a more ambiguous point on the sexuality spectrum though. Someone who for gameplay purposes is "bisexual", i.e. "will romance male an female PCs", but whose romance narrative positions them as questioning. As in, "I'm attracted to you because you're you" sort of thing, rather than labeling themselves (even though nobody in Thedas really has any particular labels for themselves anyways). Sort of like they did with Garrus romance arc (and I always thought it was weird that they locked that against Mansheps).

Indeed... Kirby wrote Merrill, not Gaider.

I think the bolded could easily lead to more bisexual erasure. Or asexual erasure. So I'm rather opposed to the general concept when used with gender.

There is only ONE double standard here and that is the one you are defending. In the real world gays represent about 5% of the population perhaps? Yet you seem to expect an unrealistic proportion of content to be made to specifically appeal to that piece of the market. That's not accurate representation. That's not some sort of achievement. Of course you're going to have to lower your expectations when those expectations aren't grounded in reality. That's life for everybody. But I suppose you'll just claim I have "straight privilege" or "white privilege" or some other nonsense. One moment you'd speak of "respect" and in the next you'd dismiss other viewpoints as "privileged". Do you think those in question have never had to work for a living, never had to deal with any challenges, are less worthy than others? That is nothing short of arrogance as is this entire postmodern use of the concept of "privilege".

Can't wait for Allan to put the smack down on this.

I will be waiting. And twerking. until he does.

I think there is something in the air.  I know it's a full moon.

I started my day by dumping hot coffee all over my nice dining room chair on the seat.  My lightweight flannel (which I was using to keep the sun off my shoulders,) took pretty much the entire cup.  Of course, I still managed to get some on that chair.  Thankfully the upholstery is brown.

May we both have a better day my friend.  <hug>

Oh, please! There are straight people who enjoy the lgbt content, please don't speak for all of us. I'm going male for Dorian, and it will be glorious!

Hmmm, I can see where you're coming from but I think having it being very tied to who the character is and how the arc of the romance goes would prevent the more problematic elements of the DA2 system from cropping up again. Everyone being bisexual in DA2 was as much based on budget constraints as anything else, but if one of the writers wanted to write a character in a future game who was questioning or demisexual, and then included other set sexualities alongside them, then I don't think it would lead to bisexual erasure.

By a ban? Or just deleting the post? It would confirm a lot of what I've heard elsewhere on the net. And I suppose its one way to win an argument you couldn't otherwise.

Varric is just the one I really hope isn't an LI, because it would be another male bisexual that clearly favors women, if he was even bisexual at all. So, I'll be disappointed if that's the case.

Eh I'd be surprised if he makes the cut and even if he does, straight is what he'll be, can't see him being bi. Still think the last two will be Solas and Viv.

But with his talk about "bisexual erasure" at the Building a Better Romance scene which apparently people jump to when characters who can be romanced by either don't go "Hey, I'm bisexual.", hoping for them to do a blank slate character is a waste of time now. I know I shouldn't be snippy at him, but it sucks.

Sounds like Merrill's romance. Too bad they decided to not leave well enough alone and had to clarify it. :(

They said that about Anders & Kaidan too.

In the end the team will do what they'll do despite how random people perceive the characters.

I think the reason some think the straight gated romances might be race gated is because we know more about Cullen and Cassandra, Cullen has been in both Origins and 2 and we met Cassandra in 2, plus the film she was in. So we know more about them and their personalities and what they might prefer. We don't really know that about Sera or Dorian all we know is what has been released about them. Sera doesn't come across as the type who would not like a certain race especially if she just likes females, Dorian is already seen as an outsider so I don't think he would have a problem dating certain races.

And that's where we begin to step into the dangerous territory of "what does a bisexual character look like"?

You head up to your profile, enter into "My Settings," then from the list bar click on "Ignore Preferences."  You should be able to add a person's name and choose what content to ignore from them.
