This, so much.

I'm a straight female, and I'm so incredibly excited for some of the other options that AREN'T straight options. I have a few Inquisitors for Sera and Dorian planned, and I'm crossing my fingers for a bi Vivienne romance so I can romance her with a female.

I agree I am a straight male and I play as lesbian females in Dragon Age and Mass Effect, me and Sera are gonna have some fun lol!

As for Blackwall...I can't see it. In the GaymerX panel they talked about having a lot of variety among the romance options. Blackwall seems a bit too similar to Iron Bull and Cullen to provide enough variation (big warrior dude like the former, but very honour-bound like the latter).

Cassandra, Josephine and Vivienne all have backgrounds has noble ladies. They are all pretty. All well mannered. All dedicated to something. Cassandra and Vivienne are both "Ice Queen" too. Didn't stop them from making at least two of them LIs.

The same old true of these three guys, the only thing they have in commons his being dude in armor. They will have totally different backgrounds and personalities.

As a gay man I'm incredibly excited for Sera. I am unfortunately completely incapable of playing straight male characters in RPGs anymore, so Cassandra is off-limits for me. I'll have to see about Scribbles.

The problem with that is that lesbians (and straight guys, but I know that's more.. arguable) would have less options. If Vivienne doesn't make it in, that would mean 2 choices for lesbians and 4 for at least straight women, probably 3 for gay men. It's a bit unfair, I think.

I thought LI's weren't candy to be distributed fairly :v

As a bisexual, I can confirm that this is 100% accurate.

Hey as a gay woman can y'all tell me what we look like? You lot are so perceptive and all.

Women who enjoy, love and are attracted to only other women.   They want to love and be loved; be accepted; have someone close to them; share laughter and tears with the people they connect with.  To me, they are like anyone else in this sometimes lonely world; only for them, their romantic soulmates, the sign of that love and connection, are of the same sex.

Oh this is fun. We should do one for every orientation. What do bisexual men look like? Straight women? The possibilities are endless!

He said that in response to race gating, so I think context is important. He said real world groups should be the priority.

It's what you get for browsing the forums and keeping up with all the news :P.

I'm sorry that this topic makes you feel less represented in games. I've responded to your desire for sexual ambiguity in romances many times rather negatively because I always thought that it bisexual erasure rather than you feeling that these characters were earnestly representing your orientation. Unfortunately, bisexual erasure is a very real problem in media, and because bisexuality is a significantly more common sexual identity than yours it seems likely that they'll be more inclined to avoid erasure. But you should bring your sexuality up more, because if we didn't know about it, chances are some of the devs may not have either. It's worth talking to them, maybe they'll hear your views and think about how a truly sexually ambiguous character could be implemented into a game.

I understand why people have argued against it, believe me. That's why I knew they'd never do something like that again after DA2. Unfortunately, that left DA2 as the place where I felt represented because for years now they never addressed it, leaving Merrill as an example of my orientation, so for that to be torn down leaves me with nothing except my own characters.

Oh, please! There are straight people who enjoy the lgbt content, please don't speak for all of us. I'm going male for Dorian, and it will be glorious!

I can never get through a play through as male when I can be a female....... But I'm also going male for Dorian. I don't care what gender I have to be for him.

I feel the same about anyone: gay, straight, bi/pan, trans*...anyone.  That love, that acceptance, that connection, is what I think we really want as mortals.  If we could try to look at love in just those terms, I think the world would be a better place.  My parents raised me right, I think.   ;)

I liked for that in particular.  I had no clue Sasha spoke from personal orientation expression when coming to the discussions about the DA2 companions and preferred romance mechanics.  I thought it was more from a place of preference in wanting to allow the player to project a sexuality onto the LI depending on who they were partnered with, so it was interesting to learn it was more speaking out of a self-identification place.    I can understand that desire to see something you relate to.

He was actually talking overall. With IB being "fixed" from his race-gating, certain race combos of straight female and gay male PCs are going to get more options. It's unavoidable (or they had less and now they have more).

One thing I do wish is they'd they'd vary the archetypes a bit. I'd love a no-nonsense duty-focused character, but available for women. Making them a man is a bonus.

I feel like being duty-focused but available for romance is rather counter-productive  :P

I agree with this. I plan to roll a female for Sera. I will roll a male for Dorian. I will roll a female for Cullen. I will roll a character for Iron Bull.

For $70 I am going to play MORE than one time.

I would totally like to see more characters who are unclear or still discovering their sexuality, alongside those who are more solid on their orientation.  There are so many people who fall between the gay and straight binary who don't necessarily identify as bisexual.  As much as I really appreciate all the bisexual representation in Bioware, it's also limiting to only ever use that label to describe characters who are attracted to more than one gender (and I admit I also tend to use this term as shorthand for anybody who that applies to).

I have also vehemently argued against people saying Merrill or Fenris can't be bisexual, but what I was really arguing against was the idea that they are "straight until proven otherwise."
