So whats the biggest age difference everyone here would be willing to accept between your PC and their LI? 

 

I'm in my early 20s and like to role play characters around my age but I'm very attracted to Blackwall who I've seen being guessed as to being in his late 40s early 50s and I'd be just fine putting my younger PCs with him.

Since it's all fiction and the LIs have all been implied to be of legal age in all countries (even if some look barely there), I don't get very bothered by May/December romances. I will probably eventually create a young Inquisitor who will go for an older LI, but my first few playthroughs I'll probably go for an Inquisitor closer to my own age. However, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I'd play an older Inquisitor who goes for a younger LI... though I'd say this is more because IRL I prefer people who are older than me to date. The times when my PC has dated one of the younger (looking) characters, they've been young themselves.

So, are we taliking about actual age or mental age. If we go by mental age alot of characters are going to take a hit.

 

Well, for me as someone, who prefers the younger Ones, mental Age is certainly more important than actual Age, BUT physical Appereance plays a Role. Which is why I perceived Cassandra to be a whole lot older than both Vivienne and Sera, who look somewhat the same, "generic" late Twenties Age to me. This is only my Opinion and Perception, though.

We then perceived those Characters differently. No need to get rude. I am not saying, what I say apllies to everyone of my Age or everyone with that kind of Perception. I just tried to explain what I meant in my Statement, which was rather ambiguously formulated.

 

Here my Explanation for why I (unlike you) perceived Merrill, as an Example, to have a Mentality I can really relate to and thus perceived her to be around my Age. You might have a different Opinion, but please remember that our Perspectives are different ones.

 

Merrill leaves her Clan behind in her first Appereance in DA2. For me that mirrors someone leaving their Parents and moving out from Home. She appears to be very lost in her new World, Kirkwall, and still relies on Guidance from others to really get along in this new Environment - these others are Hawke and Varric in her Case. She also left her Clan and especially her Keeper (who seems to take basically the Role of a Mother) on bad Terms, after a huge Argument, mirroring the Differences Teenagers have with their Parents. which can sometimes escalate the same Way. Over the Course of the Game, Merrill seems to mature slowly but due to the Problems with her Clan (Family, basically) she never quite arrives in her new Life and always seeks to prove her Worth to them - just like many Teenagers or young Adults, who have Differences with their Parents, seek to prove themselves. In the End, Merrill's Story sadly doesn't have a happy End, if we follow that Analogy, but she shows, that she has always loved and cared for her motherly Figure, Marethari, who reciprocates this Feeling. After that, though, she matures even more - Hawke's Stance towards her defines, if she gives up on her personal Dreams or keeps chasing them, just like young Adults come to a Point in Life, where they have to decide if they keep chasing their Dreams or go a safer Way.

 

I hope you can see, why I may have perceived Merrill's Arc as something of a "Coming-of-Age" Story I can easily relate to and can sympathize with. And, yes, while I do not restrict myself to such Romances, I liked Merrill's (Friendship) Romance best of all Romances BioWare has had so far. I But also liked Leliana's Path, which was completely different - but a Thing I liked about both of them (and Alistair as well) was their idealistic and somewhat naive Worldview and I hope, we will have at least one Love Interest amongst our Companions, who still has this Optimism.

She is planned to be the new keeper of this clan. That is one of the stongest leaders of the clan with the strongest voice. And she could become that at anytime the old leader dies.

 

She well is of age.

That really means nothing. That would be you're ok with a 40 year old that acts like a kid. Saying that the actual age bothers you is pointless being that you're really taking in consideration with behavior over age.

You are right - it is not the same. However, I perceived it as very analoguous to the Situation I described, regardless of the Fact that she may have come for another Clan. Her Relationship with Marethari's Clan and especially with Marethari herself seemed to me very much like that of a Family. That made it very easy to relate for me.

You seem to have skipped or misunderstood the second Part. As long as that 40 Year old does not look at least some ten to fifteen Years younger, then I would still not be attracted to that fourty Year old Person that acts like a Teenager/young Adult.

 

Please don't use the Term "Kid". It feels somewhat derogatory.

It doesn't really bother me what people prefer regarding age.  We all have preferences.  Some like younger people; some like older.  I don't see a reason to debate or question one's preferences in this case. 

 

For this game, people who like younger LI's are **** out of luck, though, because they seem to skew older this time (good for me, though!):

 

Ladies:

* Cassandra - late 30's - early 40's

* Josephine - late 20's - mid 30's (remember that she is an 'old friend' of Leliana, who is in her mid-30's most likely)

* Sera - early 20's - late 20's (my guess)

 

Fellas:

* Iron Bull - early 30's - mid 40's? (my guess)

* Cullen - early 30's - mid 30's

* Dorian - late 20's - mid 30's? (my guess)

 

Other options:

* Vivienne - no idea, tbh; maybe early to mid 30's?

* Varric - early 40's

* Blackwall - early to mid 40's

* Solas - early 40's

 

The only way to get a LI in their 20's will probably be Sera and maaaaybe  Dorian, and they are both s/s only.  I can see why people who like younger LI's, like Merrill or Alistair, could be disappointed.

1. Well... does that have anything to do with what we discussed? I was talking about my Perception of Merrill's Relationship with Marethari's Clan (aka. the Clan we actually see her interact with).

 

2. If you say so - to ease everyone's Minds we can say that my Attraction to a Person/Character is not affected by Age, but by a Combination of physical Appearance and general Behaviour. Okay?

I'm 28 but it doesn't matter how old the LI's are. I can usually create a character for most of them  Sexuality puts me off more than age as I struggle to do straight playthroughs. 

 

DAI is probably the Dragon Age game with the best looking set of companions to me, so whatever their age i'm happy because they look great. Cullen for example, obviously he is a lot older than he was in Origins but he is actually rather good looking now.

I have no problem with older love interests.  I'm 30, but I'd take 60+ year old Jeremy Irons anywhere, anytime.  Video game characters, especially in games of this nature, also have the added benefit of (normally) looking in peak condition for their age.  Blackwall looks into his 50s to me but obviously has kept very good shape.

 

Christopher Lee's in his 90s and has terrible teeth, but I'd still climb him like a tree. Which would be easy, since he is a literal giant.

Woooo finally caught up to the thread, I'm 26 and age really doesn't matter to me since my parents are 9 years apart, that could mean my future wife is either 17 right now or 35 right now lol. And I agree on Sera being the youngest but I'm not really good on guessing ages

I like younger LIs. I wish they'd made the group a bit more varied. I'm not saying only have younger ones, but the only one that looks under 35 to me is Sera. Some balance in them would have been nice. I still like at least Dorian and Solas as potential options, so it's not horrible. I just hope next time it's not quite so slanted.

In real life the rule for me is that if someone was in high school while I was still in preschool it's a no. In the game however I'm willing to go to at most a thirty year difference.

Of the companions, I see their ages being around here:

 

Late 20s to early 30s: Cullen, Dorian, Josephine, Leliana, Sera

Mid 30s to late 30s: Cassandra, Iron Bull, Vivienne

40 and up: Blackwall, Solas, Varric

 

Cole doesn't count since we don't know how old he is. He just takes the appearance of a young man.
