Leliana approaches romance in the way most players do. She knows the Warden is available as an LI and assumes if she uses the right flirt lines then that toggles your romance state.

Unfortunately, the Warden romance is buggy and even when Leliana has raised your affection level and done your sidequests, you sometimes still don't act like you're in a romance with her. Also, the Warden randomly cheats with other companions, which is some weird feature the Maker added because it's 'dramatic.'

If Leliana manages to get around the romance bugs and can reload until she gets a faithful Warden, it's an awesome, very satisfying romance. (Until the next game where her LI 'disappears' again because it's 'dramatic.')

Hmmm thats odd I usually wait for my companions to come to me about joining them in the tent since I like the extra dialog but I had to try with three Wardens to even get that dialog to be brought up with her, maybe thats why I never get ninjamanced by her she's bugged in my game just in a whole other way I suppose.

 

(yeah my warden who was crazy about Leilana enough to the point where she softened up and started to care about more people than just her own needs I doubt would just leave her without a goodbye but its Biowares story so I guess I have to deal with that just annoying tis all but that's somewhat off topic)

 

Well hopefully the romances are not so buggy in DAI and are sweet and wonderful and brings on the feels

I do know that Leliana's dialogue in general can be pretty buggy.  For instance, if you get her affection too high, you run the risk of not triggering her personal quest.  I ran into that one before.  Pretty early on in my second session of Origins, I maxed her affection and then wondered why her personal quest dialogue wasn't happening.  I did some checking and I found out that if you get her affection too high too early, you can't get the quest to trigger.  I ended up using the Feastday Prank in order to drop her affection low enough.  Then the dialogue tree leading to that opened up. 

 

I've only been "ninjamanced" once by her, and that was fairly recently.  I'm not entirely sure what happened, since I've been able to avoid it in the past.  I probably choose the wrong option somehow.  <shrug>  It is pretty startling when you're doing an Amell play through romancing Alistair and getting that conversation to pop up, particularly if you played the game several times before and not had that happen.

Yeah that happened to me once also, it was very confusing.

I've had the problem of not triggering her personal quest or the mini side quest where you get her a nug for most of my playthroughs I only managed those recently with my amell playthrough and my brosca playthrough but only got the romance with the amell. Actually I had the opposite happen I was romancing Leilana and talked to Alistair getting the pick me or her dialog from him I get that with him every time I romance Zevran too, poor little ex chantry boy must be pretty hard up for some love to imagine a relationship like that.

I try not to give her any special gifts now (like Andraste's Grace). Easiest way to avoid ninjamance. Sadly, when I do that, she never asks me about getting a nug in Orzammar. I think that might be pseudo romance related.

She's never asked me for a nug when I wasn't romancing her, and I usually dragged her, Wynne and Alistair all over the map as much as I could.  Here's to hoping some bugs like that are ironed out more when DA:I launches.

Huh. I'm probably playing with some mods that makes Leliana's romance less buggy. I usually can trigger it with the "she was special to you wasn't she?" and I hope I can be as special dialogue choices.

For some reason, the only one I can picture saying that is my saarabas.

 

Off-topic: I get unusually annoyed when people refer to their "qunari" mages as Saarebas. The word literally means "dangerous thing", the Qunari don't see mages as people, just things to be used and destroyed when they prove dangerous to society.

 

Might it not be easier to skip the sex scenes altogether, allude to them in party banter, and have them in situations where height may not matter quite so much?  Like seated, sitting on a hillside. or adapting certain scenes to multiple purposes?

 

I hope that there are romance scenes that aren't all about sex, but Bioware has always done some amount of "sex scene" in their games since ME. Regardless of what it is, it generally involves the characters touching. While I'm sure there are plenty of *insert race here* players who might think "I'm fine without a scene!" the problem is they can't animate that scene for every other race and then just fade to black for *insert race here*.

Everything else said in this post I agreed with, but, as a gay male, I would be happy with a guy giving me a rose and calling me beautiful. I don't see this as a problem.

It strikes me that if cinematics are the issue, it's probably only going to be the bi characters that are race-gated. That's like another level I'm not best pleased about this.

Still Saarebas does sound pretty BA though, this is why I really hope for a default name (which I'm sure we'll get) cause I'm terrible with names and probably would end up naming my qunari mages Saarebas out of lack of creativity on my part.

Anyone that hears Alistair tell them that he is a "lucky, lucky man" in that breathless way he does is lost.

It strikes me that if cinematics are the issue, it's probably only going to be the bi characters that are race-gated. That's like another level I'm not best pleased about this.

I will bet you a shiney dollar the race gated characters are Iron Bull and Varric. Because Varric has characterization reasons to NOT be into humans (and perhaps qunari due to animation issues) and Iron Bull because he is so flipping BIG.

I still fear the the dwarves and qunaris will get the worst of it and not going to lie I was really hoping to romance my dwarf with Iron Bull (if he turned out to be an LI that is) or Blackwall (again if he was an LI) cause darn it I love those big differences in height! *grumbles softy then slinks away to a corner*

 

 

Edit: I already gave up hope about my dwarf climbing up Iron Bulls back and using him as their mount instead or at least joking about it *sigh* Okay back to my corner now.

I think you'd be safe with Blackwall, but Iron Bull is the size of the Inquisitor's horse. That has to be difficult to animate.

I don't even know where to start with race gating. The only one I think mostly likely has definite race gating would be Iron Bull. Anyone else, I have no idea.
