Still Saarebas does sound pretty BA though, this is why I really hope for a default name (which I'm sure we'll get) cause I'm terrible with names and probably would end up naming my qunari mages Saarebas out of lack of creativity on my part.

But Saarebas does mean any mage. My Dalish mage I intend to create will be, according to the Qunari, a saarebas. I get annoyed because not only is it kinda a terrible word that is indicative of how horribly Qunari treat mages... but it's also kinda inaccurate. Oh well, people will keep saying what they want to say and I'll keep on getting annoyed sometimes. Such is life.

... To stay on topic, I've never modded romances. I think I tried to mod it so that Tamlen could tell my male Dalish warden that he loved him, but I failed at that. It always just felt weird to mod Alistair. I even installed Equal Love it and then ended up sleeping with Zevran anyways. I think part of it is that DA:O isn't a standalone game, I knew that eventually DA:2 or DA:I wouldn't make sense of my male warden romancing Alistair... so I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I think you'd be safe with Blackwall, but Iron Bull is the size of the Inquisitor's horse. That has to be difficult to animate.

I know :( hopefully there will be other people that wanted Iron Bull with a dwarf so that I can look at some amazing fanart and sigh about what could have been. So long as the game lets me be buds with him I can live with it as soon as I get over it. (but maker help me if he is not restricted from elves too then I will put my fist through someones window darn it! *grumbles*)

-snip-

The Iron Bull x Dwarf/Elf/Human romance.

I thought that was thoroughly discussed in one of these romance thread already.

Edit: Plus given how Iron Bull will jump into bed with anyone he's sure he won't break if he sticks to qunari's only then he wouldn't be getting a lot of action now would he? (though I'm assuming thats a joke post its hard for me to tell sometimes^^;  )

I tried to mod romances in a game once but I have no idea how mods work and am the type who needs visual aids instead of written words so that went horrible for me I was thinking of installing the equal love mod though if I knew what I was doing but it would feel too weird to be romancing Alistair or Morrigan of the same sex and be referred to the opposite sex by them all the time. I'd really prefer the DA2 approached but thats just me and it lead to me playing as a male way more often than DAO and its set sexualites ever did but I know those are here to stay for DAI

WHich actually has me wondering, if Iron Bull is a LI, how will he respond to a Mage Inquisitor of any kind?

Cassandra - Bisexual (CUZ I SAID SO)

Sera - Lesbian

Vivienne - Straight

Scribbles - Bisexual

Solas - Straight (because all the elves being bi is getting kinda old. So either straight or gay for Solas plzkthx)

Dorian - Biiiiiiisexual (because all that yum should be for everyone)

Cullen - Bisexual

Blackwall - Bisexual or gay. Can totally see that either way.

Iron Bull - Bisexual (race gated against elves and dwarves)

Varric - ??? (race gated against humans and qunari)

That would give each gender a straight and gay option but the choices that go either way are sprinkled liberally. I am hoping for the extras because of the race gating. And yes, I realize that this means the only companion not romancable is Cole and Leliana but with only three women you kinda need them all in the ring so to speak to make it "fair".

I'm starting to wonder if the Ben Hassarath are just completely different in general from Qunari society. Tallis didn't mind. And not only that, of the three we know, all apparently have weak convictions.

I think probably they are all different from other Qunari. Not the ones who do the reeducating, so much, but the undercover agents, of which both Tallis and Iron Bull are. The Qun is wonderful to them because it's a great system holding you up and showing you always where you belong, but when you're outside that for a long time, even if you're still in service to that system, you're going to change.

I do know that Leliana's dialogue in general can be pretty buggy.  For instance, if you get her affection too high, you run the risk of not triggering her personal quest.  I ran into that one before.  Pretty early on in my second session of Origins, I maxed her affection and then wondered why her personal quest dialogue wasn't happening.  I did some checking and I found out that if you get her affection too high too early, you can't get the quest to trigger.  I ended up using the Feastday Prank in order to drop her affection low enough.  Then the dialogue tree leading to that opened up.

I've only been "ninjamanced" once by her, and that was fairly recently.  I'm not entirely sure what happened, since I've been able to avoid it in the past.  I probably choose the wrong option somehow.  <shrug>  It is pretty startling when you're doing an Amell play through romancing Alistair and getting that conversation to pop up, particularly if you played the game several times before and not had that happen.

Is that what causes that?  I'd wondered.

I try not to give her any special gifts now (like Andraste's Grace). Easiest way to avoid ninjamance. Sadly, when I do that, she never asks me about getting a nug in Orzammar. I think that might be pseudo romance related.

I'd wondered why that, too.

She's never asked me for a nug when I wasn't romancing her, and I usually dragged her, Wynne and Alistair all over the map as much as I could.  Here's to hoping some bugs like that are ironed out more when DA:I launches.

I think she might have asked me when I wasn't romancing her once.  But she ninjamances, so maybe she thought we were romancing at the time.

Off-topic: I get unusually annoyed when people refer to their "qunari" mages as Saarebas. The word literally means "dangerous thing", the Qunari don't see mages as people, just things to be used and destroyed when they prove dangerous to society.

I hope that there are romance scenes that aren't all about sex, but Bioware has always done some amount of "sex scene" in their games since ME. Regardless of what it is, it generally involves the characters touching. While I'm sure there are plenty of *insert race here* players who might think "I'm fine without a scene!" the problem is they can't animate that scene for every other race and then just fade to black for *insert race here*.

I plan on calling my qunari mage "Saarabas" at this time.  I've got a script and a bit of backstory (for the tabletop roleplay) explained on the female qunari and qunari mage threads.

Also, if I say "saarabas," people know what I mean quickly and it uses fewer words than "qunari mage."

I think "fade to black" might be the way to go.  People are going to be disappointed no matter what they do, either way.

Still Saarebas does sound pretty BA though, this is why I really hope for a default name (which I'm sure we'll get) cause I'm terrible with names and probably would end up naming my qunari mages Saarebas out of lack of creativity on my part.

I doubt it'll be the default name because s/he's not a qunari, she's a vashoth (although I still say that "bas" makes more sense since they don't differentiate between race so much as "qunari" and "not qunari," but it's the dev's world, I just play in it).  Still giving thought to naming her that on my first playthrough.

I don't think it is so much a bi thing...

I will bet you a shiney dollar the race gated characters are Iron Bull and Varric. Because Varric has characterization reasons to NOT be into humans (and perhaps qunari due to animation issues) and Iron Bull because he is so flipping BIG.

Varric lies.  I don't recall myself him saying he's not into humans, but every five minutes Cassandra has to stop and tell him to tell her the truth and quit pulling her leg.  There was a cut line about Varric telling Hawke, "Don't worry, I left out the part about us."  Hawke wasn't there at the end, it's possible the "us" happened but they didn't have a place for the dialog.  Varric's not going to tell Cassandra he's got a significant other.  He doesn't open up well and he's being interrogated at the time.  What if she uses that against him?  He doesn't know they'll be companions some day.

I hope not Hawke x Varric, though.  I want Varric for my saarabas.

But Saarebas does mean any mage. My Dalish mage I intend to create will be, according to the Qunari, a saarebas. I get annoyed because not only is it kinda a terrible word that is indicative of how horribly Qunari treat mages... but it's also kinda inaccurate. I'd be afraid that if I modded in such a manner, it would confuse the world state import system.

I see a lot of people guessing that Iron Bull and Varric will be the race gated ones, but I feel a little doubtful. I don't really think they'll both be LIs. It's possible, but I think the gender numbers will be more even. There are four females that are probably open to romance. It's possible there are some we don't know about, but I believe they'll stick with companions and advisors as what they consider full romances. So, I think there will be 3-4 female romances and 3-4 male romances. For the males..

Cole - All but fully, undeniably confirmed he wont be a romance. HEAVILY implied not to be.

Blackwall - It's possible he is, but I think he's probably too old and close to his calling.

Cullen - Confirmed to be an LI.

Dorian - He most fits the standard for an LI out of all the companions. I will be very surprised if he's not a romance for SOMEONE.

This is the group I'm on the fence about --

Solas - We really know very little about him. People will assume he is going to be, because he's the only male elf and that's popular. He's been very popular with the female demographic and I know a lot of girls will be disappointed if he's not available. What makes me uncertain is that we just know so little about him that we can't be sure there isn't a strong reason why he wouldn't be a romance.

Iron Bull - A lot of people have assumed he's an option because of the comments that he'll have sex with anyone. I'm still really uncertain, because he is still a "real" Qunari. Establishing a relationship is against their philosophy. What would happen if he did? Would he have to leave the Qunari? Would he have to try to hide it? Would it even be something he wanted to do? I still wouldn't be surprised if he was just a fling or even not available, but I'm also not totally willing to rule it out.

Varric - I have a hard time not seeing Varric as straight after DA2, but I also have a hard time seeing them give the straight females a dwarven, restricted character as their "exclusive". Most people play humans and he would be restricted from humans? But I also don't feel confident that they'll be adding an extra, hetero exclusive to females on top of Solas, Cullen, or whoever else it is. It's more just that I don't think they'll be pushing the numbers that high. It's possible he could be bisexual. It wouldn't be the first time a character only showed interest in one gender, was vocal about that interest, and then turned out bi later. (ilu Anders) I don't think they'll do two race gated bi male companions, though, so I feel like it would be either Varric or Iron Bull and not both. With the hints we got before about Bianca maybe still kicking around, I think Iron Bull may be more likely, but I guess we just have to wait and see.

I realize I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but that's all we really have right now.  :P
