I don't think he'd see them as 'just a dwarf, but more 'someone I can't share my life's passion with'. Chances are he wouldn't date a Tranquil either for the same reason.
I don't think dating a tranquil would be possible.

Before I go back to ME3, I was wondering if I may ask something to the men in the thread: If Varric was straight, would you roll up a lady to romance him with?
I'm interested in seeing how they designed the lady dorf model this time around. I'm hoping it is not a skinnier, sexier, typical body shape. Part of why I loved lady dorfs so much in Origins was because they were stocky, filled out, curvy, strong, full-faced. So if they're not the same this time around, I'd likely pass on playing a lady dwarf at all. And a lady dwarf with Varric is the only real combination I'm keen on. A personal headcanon matter.
I wouldn't go out of my way to do a Varricmance playthrough. In truth, he's at the lowest interest and priority on my list.

I don't think he'll be a LI, so gating isn't an issue, but how is he a hypocrite? He's a Fade scholar, more or less, and spends a great deal of his time in the Fade. If he's going to be in a relationship, why wouldn't it be important to him that his partner be able to share this thing that is such a vital part of his life? If I were a marine biologist who spent 10 months a year at sea, I don't think I'd get involved with someone with uncontrollable sea sickness. I mean, if I fell in love with them and then discovered they had uncontrollable sea sickness, I might try to make it work, but it's common knowledge that dwarves aren't connected to the Fade, so there's really no ambiguity there.
As I said before it would come off as hypocritical to me because he doesn't like people who sees him as just an elf so brushing off an dwarf pc because he seems them as just a dwarf would seem head scratching to me.

It would just come off as such to me is all though I'm still not convinced that there is going to be any reason that won't leave a bad taste in my mouth just that bit of Solas info happened to stand out to me is all. Also I know it was just an example but Tranquil are incapable of any kind of feelings though so they couldn't get in a relationship with anyone and I'd personally question anyone who would want to be with someone that feels nothing and always obeys your every order

I agree with this. I don't see it as hypocritical if it is not about their race specifically. I wouldn't date someone who hated the outdoors, for instance, because being outdoorsy is a big part of my lifestyles and I want to be able to share it with a romantic partner whom I am sure to spend a lot of time with. Being open minded does not necessarily mean without preferences. While lurking in the Solas thread I did see it mentioned that perhaps Solas's romance could only be accessed in a dream. That could take the preferences aspect out of it and would be more of a story reason.
who the heck would date a tranquil :V
Someone who doesn't like drama in their relationship? xD

I'm hoping dwarf ladies look just like the ones in Aimo's comics ![]()
I always thought that these last two romances yet to be revealed were the gated ones. As things stand now, we have six romances: two straight, two bi, and two gay, of each gender. This means that everyone gets two choices. Which Gaider has said has always been the goal; giving the player choice.
These other two romances could be seen as...not exactly "bonuses", but it has been said that they are aiming for choice, and not exactly fairness. Right now they have equal choices. With these two romances to come, if they are the gated ones, then we start moving toward the whole thing being a little bit skewed toward one race/gender over others.
I keep thinking something very similar to what you are. When did they ever say it was going to be equal?
I am with a lot of people and would love for that last two romances to fit into that "equal" placeholds (1 female/1 male and both bi). However, every time i think about who it will be i am reminded that David stated that if there was the resources for it he would want to do fix sexuality. This makes me think that maybe it will not end up being equal. At the moment we are sitting at equal (3 male/3 female, 2/2/2) and because there is the most LI in a DA game i cannot help but think that last two are "special" cases with a more complex history (maybe viv having issues with social image if she was with a certain race/gender or varric and his past hang-ups or Solas with..well with the fade loner personality or blackwall the man at is about to do his calling *or so it looks*). Who knows, other than bioware atm, maybe i'm way over thinking. Just my thoughts atm.

Not dating someone who doesn't share your most treasured hobby or your passion in life is not hypocritical, heck its human nature to do that I couldn't seea teacher dating someone who didn't like kids, That's not being a hypocrite that's standing by your preferences
who the heck would date a tranquil :V
Someone who dated them before they were made Tranquil and as such still care about them even if sadly the love can't be reciprocated.
i rly doubt they'd say harder/faster ://vyea, imagine the sex * robotic monotone * oh yes ... move left.....haaarddder......fasttttterrrr.........i cccammme an hour ago

I just had a mental image of someone hanging outside the door of the Tranquil's area spying on Owain with a shoujo manga-esque blush.
Someone who dated them before they were made Tranquil and as such still care about them even if sadly the love can't be reciprocated.
That's not dating then, that's masochism.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeird, anything and everything they'd love about them would b gone save for their faceSomeone who dated them before they were made Tranquil and as such still care about them even if sadly the love can't be reciprocated.

Essentially this. It would be probably equivalent to insisting you are still in a relationship your a dead spouse, even though they literally cannot give you anything back because everything about them that made them who they were is gone.
Owain is one sexy smooth operator, not giving a %$#@ when the circle was infested with demons :vI just had a mental image of someone hanging outside the door of the Tranquil's area spying on Owain with a shoujo manga-esque blush.
Okay I didn't mean to start a fight or anything about Solas here but I do want to say one more thing about the Fade and Dwarves yes Dwarves can not dream but they can still have a passion for the Fade so they could share Solas's interest in the Fade the only difference is is that they can not dream that doesn't mean a dwarf couldn't study the fade or be in awe of the fade.
As I said before it would come off as hypocritical to me because he doesn't like people who sees him as just an elf so brushing off an dwarf pc because he seems them as just a dwarf would seem head scratching to me.
Solas is probably against people stereotyping elves (and dwarves and humans...). If his reason for not being with a dwarf was "you're all drunken louts who care more about money", then he'd be a hypocrite for acting off of broad generalizations and stereotypes. That would be him seeing the dwarf inquisitor as "just a dwarf".
But the dwarven disconnect from the Fade isn't a stereotype, it's a fact of lore and common knowledge. And in this scenario, even if he rejects a dwarven inquisitor based on the Fade thing, it would be because of the Fade thing that's because of the dwarf thing, not simply because they're a dwarf. And there's no reason to assume that he wouldn't acknowledge all the ways they're an amazing person, they're just not an amazing person who can also share his passion with him to the degree that he would like them to.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeird, anything and everything they'd love about them would b gone save for their face
That reminds me of one of the background charactrs in the Gallows who tried to reach out to their Tranquil lover, and it was heartbreaking. Especially the implications in that dialogue.
except that corpse can enchant weapons and armor :vEssentially this. It would be probably equivalent to insisting you are still in a relationship your a dead spouse, even though they literally cannot give you anything back because everything about them that made them who they were is gone.
case in point, DagnaOkay I didn't mean to start a fight or anything about Solas here but I do want to say one more thing about the Fade and Dwarves yes Dwarves can not dream but they can still have a passion for the Fade so they could share Solas's interest in the Fade the only difference is is that they can not dream that doesn't mean a dwarf couldn't study the fade or be in awe of the fade.

What's weird about someone saying they are still married to their dead spouse? So anyone who believes they will be reunited with their love in the afterlife and thus stay faithful in this life is 'weird'?
2) Solas: Bisexual and race-gated against Dwarves. He loves the Fade and would want to share his passion with his lover, so with the Dwarves cut off from the Fade it wouldn't work.
But the inquisitor, no matter how much of a dwarf he might be, is uniquely connected to the fade.
